Thanks!

How much rice do you need to cook at a time? I bought a small one from walmart about 20 years ago. It was cheap and still going strong.

I make rice in my Instant Pot and I like it just as well as the rice I made in a dedicated rice cooker.

A small one would be fine. It is just the two of us at home now.

We have two rice cookers. The large 10 cup only gets pulled out when I'm making sushi. For day-to-day, I love our really inexpensive Imusa 3 cup. I often make rice early and it automatically switches to warm when done. I also use it for quinoa. FWIW, I never would have bought a rice cooker myself. Our first one was a wedding gift and survived the 2006 great purge of kitchen appliances.

I’ve never had a rice cooker, but I make rice at least weekly in our Instant Pot. (Basamati, Jasmine, Wild Rice, Long Grain)

I use a Corning Ware dish and use the rice setting on my microwave. Perfect every time.
Why do you need another appliance?

I had a little red one that was super simple and cheap for YEARS- it just flipped to on and then automatically to warm afterwards. It broke and I'm downsizing so I've been using the instant pot and have been pleasantly surprised at how well it turns out.

I don't think that I need another appliance. I am able to cook rice on the stove. DH is asking about one. If that means he will do some cooking, I am happy to buy a rice cooker!

I am able to cook rice on the stove. I can cook rice on a stove too, but a rice cooker makes it so much easier! I guess depending on what kind of rice you cook, with the rice cooker I don't have to babysit the pot of rice. I just push the button and walk away. I don't have to worry about burnt rice. I hate burnt rice! As a kid, I refused to eat the rice that was burnt. Since we cook rice 4-5 times a week, I rather have a dedicated appliance for it. I can leave the cooked rice in it on the "warm" setting until we are ready to eat it.

I have a Zojirushi that travels with me everywhere. I cook a lot, and cook a lot of rice. Even if it's just the two of us I cook extra as I will use it in a recipe within a couple of days.

I had a zojirushi for many years. I got rid of it after cooking rice in the Instant Pot. That is the only way I cook rice now.

Honestly, if you’re not going to use it that often and he’s adamant on getting a separate appliance, a simple 3 cup rice cooker from Target or Walmart is more than adequate. I have one, use it 2-3 times a week and it been working like a champ for years. It comes with the measuring cup and a rice spoon and it’s really all you need.

I love my rice cooker! Perfect rice every time and I can focus on making the rest of dinner while my rice is cooking. Mine is 12+ years old so can’t give you a recommendation since I doubt my particular one is sold anymore. I don’t have an instant pot.

I love mine and while I don't use it often, every time I do I tell myself I'm going to use it more. Love it. I just have one from Walmart, nothing fancy. Not sure of brand, maybe hamilton beach.

I have a Zojirushi…the fuzzy logic kind. I also have a multicooker (both an InstantPot and a Ninja Foodi) and I greatly prefer rice cooked in my Zojirushi.

I love mine, so much that I'm onto my 3rd now as I've worn them out. I steam rice in 1kg batches then freeze it down in 3/4 cup portions to be defrosted when required. We eat rice most days though.
Ours can also be used to steam food, and I probably ought to try that sometime.
ETA: our current one is made by Breville and holds 1.8 litres.
