Was reading the thread on how people make their tuna fish and one person mentioned putting Dukes mayo is theirs. I can't get Dukes mayo in Minneapolis. (Moved here 2-1/2 yr. ago) from the east coast. I miss it It's the best mayonnaise. I've been back to Balto. and could bring some back in my suitcase but. . . What do you miss where you live?

Lindt white chocolate with coconut. As far as I know, it has never been available in the UK. I used to buy it decades ago in Europe, where it was known as Copaya. I buy a few bars every time I visit the US, and DS’s GF brings me some every time she comes to visit. In fact, she is this week's favourite child, because she arrived yesterday with four bars, as well as a large bag of coconut clusters from Costco, that are a bit like crack cocaine to me! 😄

These are not foods I would eat on the regular, but once in a while, I get a craving for them:
hush puppies chicken fried steak pecan divinity good Southern biscuits--they sure can fuck up a biscuit here in New England what I call cafeteria green beans--canned green beans with bacon cooked to mush--salty goodness and a comfort food

Fried lake perch and walleye fish. Growing up in Michigan, these were a Friday night standard. So good and fresh. Whenever I go back home, I eat it as much as possible.
eta ~ it’s been a couple of years (COVID) since I’ve been back to Michigan. We actually called it peckerel ! If they knew that I had catfish here ~ they would flip their lid. Never would we eat catfish in Michigan growing up. Never.

It’s not necessary a “favorite” food but I had fried cheese curds in Madison, Wisconsin and in Chicago and they were so good. I’m not aware of any place that serves them around here. Yummy. All my normal favorite food (good tacos, sushi, Ethiopian etc) is in plenty supply near me.

When we'd visit my grandma in Missouri she would start these in the thermowell of her Chambers stove after making breakfast biscuits. They were her canned green beans with added bacon and onion, simmered hours in that thermowell until we ate dinner. Sooooo good. And I would wake up already smelling them so a lot of anticipation was involved. We still make them at holidays but it's not the same without Grandma's canned beans and Grandma. I remember saving and savoring the last of her green bean quarts she gave me before her passing. Yum.

Beignets and king cake. We can get these things here, but it's just not the same. There used to be a place on Westheimer near the high school that had really good ones. Had some Moeller's king cake last night. Good but not the same IMO. May need to go to Brennan's soon. Surely they can make them right? For us it is fried catfish done the MS/LA way, with the filets cut really thing and a crunchy cornmeal batter. So good! Here it's all thicker cuts with a heavier batter.

Schar Delishios - it’s a gluten free malted milk ball. I have not been able to find these in the US or any place I can order them from. I miss malt balls!

I just have to say that if you are going to Brennan's the only acceptable dessert, in my opinion, is banana's foster, and I will declare that my hard to get food. There is a restaurant we go to occasionally that serves it, but they seem to run out. We have a local restaurant that can compete with the best of the New Orleans king cakes, so even though you can go to the grocery store - or local drug stores - and get a "real" New Orleans King Cake, I like the fresher local choice better.

lesley When my great-grandmother died, my mom's cousin came in from Switzerland for the funeral. She thought she was being nice, and brought all sorts of Lindt chocolate for everyone. Then she went to CVS for something she forgot and saw so much of it and felt very foolish.

Got Duke’s from Walmart a few times, then they stopped selling it all of a sudden at my local Walmart. Luckily I can still get it at a locally owned grocery store. So good!

My Mom and Aunt used to get together once a year and make candy, and this was my favorite. Good stuff, indeed. I learned to make Divinity with my late MIL and I still make it every year. I share with neighbors and friends. Every year we gift to someone new and they comment on how they haven't had Divinity since their Mother, Grandmother etc made it. It makes their holiday and mine too.

You will think mine is dumb but I can't get unsweetened iced tea at places like McDonald's here in Canada ... it sucks! That is the first place I would hit when I crossed the border because I love it so much! The only place I can find it here is at Starbucks and I have to state "No water, no sweetener" ... and it costs A LOT more than a McDonald's iced tea Here in Canada, iced tea is always sweet

I must be candy-impaired because I've tried to make it a couple of times at the holidays and both times it was a total fail. Weather conditions were perfect, new candy thermometer. Definitely operator error.
