In WA our mask mandate will be lifted 3/21 so still three weeks to go. They will still be required on public transportation and medical facilities (and something else or two I’m forgetting). But it will end 3/21 for schools, stores (unless the private stores decide to keep), restaurants… ETA: oh interesting. I just read the rest of the thread - I hadn’t seen yet that WA was bumping the date up. I’ll have to see if that’s just schools or everything. Well there you go: 3 hours ago it was released WA will end mask mandate 9 days early on 3/12. Yup, I just got an email from the district saying they will align with the WA/OR/CA coordinated mandate lifting, so just a couple weeks longer.

Fingers crossed that the hospitals are good with all of this. I too am so tired of the masks. I wish we wouldn't have to worry about it at all. My thought for schools dropping it.....what if they have to return to using them? How hard will it be to get kids to wear them again? In IL I don’t see it happening again. I think that no matter what happens going forward, masks will always be optional. No one likes them, but the vocal ones who shout at BOE meetings will never again comply if they were to be required again. That ship has sailed.

No word yet from my oldest son's district about lifting the mask mandate, but I would be surprised since they are in the middle of a lawsuit regarding the legality of their mandate (state says no mandates allowed unless it's a federal mandate such as the one for busses). They are also too busy announcing the superintendent's resignation at the end of the school year...not sad at all about that...

I wish the University where I work would lift theirs. Kind of over dealing with hot flashes while wearing a mask. As long as things are going well at least. My daughter's university still requires N95 masks in classrooms. They dropped the requirement for libraries and dorms today. They mandate all students be fully vaccinated and boosted, so I feel comfortable with no mask requirement. I hope they lift the classroom mask requirement (or even n95 requirement) as most everyone on campus is boosted. So happy she is in college now, she is much safer there than our local high school (no vaccine or mask requirement).

And just like that, the "you're a selfish asshole who wants grandmas to die if you don't wear a mask" went away... So what I’m hearing is that you expected us to substitute your judgment for the CDC’s on when it was reasonable to stop masking. I know you have no love for the CDC, but how much crazier would I have to be to base my decisions on the advice of a stranger on the internet? (You may not agree with me, but I’ve been nothing if not consistent in who I listen to for Covid advice.) I'm not giving you advice, just reacting to the complete turnabout here by many. It's left me just scratching my head.

They're lifted here, but most students are still choosing to wear them, as are pretty much all staff. I think the general consensus is most want to be cautious and see what our numbers look like over the next few weeks. My son is clear he intends to continue to wear a mask. My DD is continuing to wear one too. They just lifted the mandate for wearing them on the school bus starting yesterday, but she said she has really liked not getting sick the last two years! It’s still cold here and everything is still closed up so it makes sense to me to continue with them until cold and flu season passes too.

Thanks to our lovely new governor (that's TOTAL sarcasm on my part) here in Virginia masks in schools are optional starting tomorrow. Thankfully it's still not optional for staff so when I go sub in the 1st grade tomorrow the decision has been made for me. Never mind covid, I haven't had a cold since this all started and I'd love to continue that way. A room full of 6- and 7-year olds is a germ factory and I'm happy to keep my mask on.

Our district lifted the mandate months ago. My thought process is that we have some things over the next 3 weeks for which getting Covid would be disastrous (the HS musical and then a visit to Colorado) so our family will continue to use good masks in public until those things are done. And then we'll follow the CDC's advice and probably get sick and get this over with. For those of us who still haven't had Covid, we're kind of in limbo because it's clear that our vaccines alone aren't going to keep us from getting it eventually.

It's left me just scratching my head. To be fair, many communities are in drastically different positions as far as Covid. Most places in the US are at the end of omicron wave, hospitalizations have finally come down and you can finally get medical care for something other than Covid if you need it.

Our district lifted the mandate right after the new year. Half the kids still wore them and the other half seemed like they were all out for two weeks. The spike in teacher absences was also crazy for the first month. Classes had to double up because there weren't many subs. After about 8 weeks, it seems like it is back to before (December) in absences and sickness.

Our work is allowing us to choose to wear them or not as of today.
They did say if we encounter a client who prefers us to wear a mask, then we are to do so.
I’m good with all that!

I have mixed feelings. I am finding it harder to get to know students when they are wearing masks (they look too similar!), and while I am loud and wear a mike while teaching so get no complaints, I often can’t hear softer-voiced students when I call on them.
On the other hand, I have had two Covid exposure notices in two weeks from my classes, and I teach 150 students.
Anyhow, I have not heard anything about what either of my universities are doing.

Ours is also lifting. I’m praying this is the turning of the tide.
