Very exciting! I wish so badly my kid’s college campus would lift theirs.

So happy that you're happy. Our area is defined as low transmission and has 80%+ kids vaccinated. Waiting on the governor to make a statement today and hoping that he finally supports mask choice in the schools. ETA: so I guess statewide 3/12 it has been decided. I just hope our county and district adhere to that, they have notoriously been the last hold out on just about everything

My school district drooped our mask requirement and my son's district dropped theirs this week. I'm not quite at the celebrating phase just yet, but I am happy for our first graders who have only been in school with masks until now. I'm also happy for the high school kids like my son whose entire high school education has been severely impacted by covid. And I'm relieved for elementary school teachers who have struggled to teach phonics and sounds through masks, music teachers, and speech therapists especially to have one less challenge.

School mandates are being lifted here tomorrow. The kids will be happy, originally they were going to remain until the end of March even though all other mask mandates were lifted over a week ago.

Ours is lifted 3/19 (so really 3/28 because of spring break).

Ours will be lifted in school as of Wednesday. My daughter spent most of her junior high career and more than half of her sophomore year in a mask. Imagine how weird it will be for some of these kids to see their friends faces in 2 years!

Ours is lifted 3/19 (so really 3/28 because of spring break). In schools? (You are the Portland area pea, right?) We haven’t heard anything yet, and ours might be different because of the age, but it will be nice for the school age kids in my building! Starting tomorrow they don’t have to wear masks outside.

This is what I just read for California. Oregon and Washington
“ California released the news in a joint statement with Oregon and Washington, which are also allowing their school masking requirements to expire at 11:59 p.m. on March 11.”

I’m glad for you. I’m sure it’s been a challenge, being taught, and teaching something like music to young children especially, with masks on for two years.

so jealous. Our county mask mandate ends tomorrow but our school district is keeping masks in the schools until at least the middle of April. My high school age son is fully vaxxed and has been compliant with masking all this time. he is so tired of it and bummed that he is stuck with having to still wear it.
If the county is ending the mandate, why can't the school?

I wish the University where I work would lift theirs. Kind of over dealing with hot flashes while wearing a mask. As long as things are going well at least.

Of course the anti mask areas will, but I do wonder about Portland and Seattle and their surrounding areas. Our school district sent out an email this morning saying they have not made a decision.

They're lifted here, but most students are still choosing to wear them, as are pretty much all staff. I think the general consensus is most want to be cautious and see what our numbers look like over the next few weeks.

I can’t wait’ I hate, hate sending my preschooler with a mask. Hopefully ours will be lifted soon, I sent an email but haven’t heard back.
I want him to be able to get appropriate speech services. I want the teachers to be able to see if he has a seizure. I want him to see his peers faces, and smiles.

Fingers crossed that the hospitals are good with all of this. I too am so tired of the masks. I wish we wouldn't have to worry about it at all.
My thought for schools dropping it.....what if they have to return to using them? How hard will it be to get kids to wear them again?

Yay for you!
Ours was lifted the weekend before last. But we still have to wear masks on public transport and ride share, in hospitals and care facilities. And retail workers still have to wear them. For some weird reason, kids in Years 3 to 6 also still have to wear them at school! Why just those years?

In WA our mask mandate will be lifted 3/21 so still three weeks to go. They will still be required on public transportation and medical facilities (and something else or two I’m forgetting). But it will end 3/21 for schools, stores (unless the private stores decide to keep), restaurants…
ETA: oh interesting. I just read the rest of the thread - I hadn’t seen yet that WA was bumping the date up. I’ll have to see if that’s just schools or everything.
Well there you go: 3 hours ago it was released WA will end mask mandate 9 days early on 3/12.

Our school district started the year mask free (in the high school at least). They did reinstate the mandate for a few weeks late January/early February. And the kids followed it, not too happy about it, but they did it because they knew they had no choice.

And just like that, the "you're a selfish asshole who wants grandmas to die if you don't wear a mask" went away... So what I’m hearing is that you expected us to substitute your judgment for the CDC’s on when it was reasonable to stop masking. I know you have no love for the CDC, but how much crazier would I have to be to base my decisions on the advice of a stranger on the internet? (You may not agree with me, but I’ve been nothing if not consistent in who I listen to for Covid advice.)
