I finally got rid of cable a few months ago. I haven’t missed it one bit until recently. I would now really like to be able to keep up with the Ukrainian situation without signing back up for a bunch of channels I would never watch. We don’t live in an area where I can pick up any local programming through an antenna. Any suggestions for how I can watch up to date news?

I watch the local and national news on NBC (get it on my digital antenna). If I want more info I go to cnn, reuters, bbc, etc websites. Honestly, I've been very glad to miss the minute by minute 24/7 coverage. For me it's been a lot healthier than having constant news about disasters, wars, and the like at the click of a remote. I tend to find myself getting too wrapped up in it. ANYHOW...can you get "cable" news on something like YoutubeTV? I know I had it when I had Hulu Live. I believe other streaming services have the cable networks on them as well. And you can just sign up for whatever streaming service for a month or two, and then drop it again. Parse it out to a daily cost and it's much more palatable price for a short term (IMHO)

Our local news channels have FB pages where they post local and world news. I think some have apps too. I know the big 3 have apps for your devices.

For news current cheapest option is Philo $25 a month, I think. I’ve been watching BBC world news on Ukraine news on it. CNN and MSNBC have been driving me a bit batty with their coverage on this.
PlutoTV is free, I can get content from CNN (not always live) and NBC news content and cBS news LA/NY channels on it. It’s free so you could check it out and see if it’s enough news content for what you need for this.

I don't have cable. I can watch local channels with a hard wired antenna. I don't watch much tv.
I get the news daily, via television and newspaper websites or emails. I am signed up on quite a few to receive emails. I get the daily morning news brief, the evening news brief, the weekly recap, breaking news as it happens. As well as the weekly book list, travel news, etc... There are many other email options to sign up for weather, traffic, arts & culture, the weekly food review, etc.... Plus, whenever there is major breaking news happening, there is always a post about it here on this message board.
If breaking news is happening local, I view the local station. If breaking news if happening nationwide in the USA, I googled the nearest major city and stream it live from that area/cities local tv stations website.
Depending on what is happening (or not), it's a little or a lot of emails. I don't mind an inbox full of emails. For those who don't like have a daily influx of incoming emails, this method of receiving news or being in the know, is not for them.

We do Hulu Live. I could cancel that and not miss it but DH likes it. Since cutting cable, I hardly ever have the TV on and have grown to love the silence. It was always on when the kids were home and now the peace and quiet is nice.

We watch the CBS Evening News with Lester Holt. Kate Snow, Jose Diaz Balart, and Kristen Walker also regularly sub in for him. It’s free to watch on YouTube. Because of the time difference, we watch it the next day (we are 6 hours ahead of EST.). If it’s an emerging news story, we will also watch the live feed or 3 minute ish clips of newer stories.

We got rid of cable and use YouTube Tv. It was a lot cheaper and we can still the prime time channels. Only complaint is the guide has no number listings for the channel so you have to kind of memorize what channels you like and where they are. Except the prime time channels are listed first which is nice.

I put all of my favorite channels at the top of my list.

I'm an ex-cord cutter... I had to get it back. I thought I didn't watch too much (and I really don't) but I missed my schedule of the nightly news, certain shows. I got so tired of hunting and pecking for shows. So now I am back to Directv.. I hate paying for it.. but I'm much happier.. LOL.. (I think I am just too old to make all the streaming work the way I want to, I get so frustrated.)

I have Direct TV Stream (It used to be AT&T). I have a Firestick and am able to watch the local news and record it so we don't have to watch the commercials.

Many standard stations have live news youtube channels -- NBC, CBS, ABC on top of having their own news websites with livestream capabilities.
BBCnews also has live format.

I don’t know how to locate them but a few weeks ago there was a link on the opening screen of my firestick and there were lots of options for live news from most of the major networks. I haven’t looked for it lately as we still have cable. I browsed the section as I am considering dropping cable

I don't watch any live TV, including news.
I subscribe to a few daily news podcasts for national highlights and I get the rest of my news from news websites.

We have DirecTV Stream for live stuff, but really just for sports. I get my news online - NPR and Reuters sites stay very up to date with fact-based coverage.

You can see news, both in articles and in video, on many news channel websites. I also see news on Youtube.
