I have the expression, but have not used it a lot. So, I really haven't paid a lot of attention to the Explore. But, can someone give me the main differences in the machines. Thanks,

Explore cuts extremely fine details, while the original Expression doesn't do that well. The Expression 2 cuts details better than the original, but not as well as the Explore.
However, the Explore has to be tied to both your computer and the Internet. The Expression stands alone because it cuts from your cartridges.
The Explore cuts heavier materials than the Expression. It can import SVG files and cut them. I think it has a bit more of a learning curve than the Expression does, but it is supposed to be easy for the user, because they have projects already designed for users to choose from.
Those are some of the main differences that I can think of. I own the Expression 2, not the Explore.
If you don't use your Expression all that much, would you really be more inclined to use the Explore? Unless you plan to keep it set up and connected all the time, chances are you won't use it any more than you have used your Expression.

You really need to try out Design Space first if you are thinking of using an Explore. You need good internet and since you have to use DS to use an Explore, it's good to know if you can use the program.
I'm waiting for my Explore. I am keeping my Expression 2 for now. I have used Cricut Craft Room with my E2. I use the same sign in for DS as for CCR. All my cartridges from CCR have shown up in DS. If you haven't linked your carts to CCR, you will need to link them to use in DS.
The new German blade that is out for the Explore can be used in other Cricut machines. It's longer lasting and cuts better.
There is an iPad app that lets you make pre made projects. In 2015 they are going to make it so that you can design anything from your iPad. You do need the Bluetooth adapter for your Explore to do this however.
The blade housings are different. If you have a Deep Cut housing for your E, it will not work in the Explore. Blades are interchangeable only.
You use the same mats that are already out there that are 12x12 and 12x24.
The Explore has a blade housing spot AND an extra spot where you can put a pen or stylus (for scoring and embossing). Changing out pens is made easy from what I have seen on YouTube.
You do have the option to pay a monthly fee to use the Cricut Library in DS. You can sign up for a year (will give you a discount) or by month. The liscenced carts are NOT included like Disney, Hello Kitty, Anna Griffin. If you just get the machine, you get access to the library for 2 week for free. My Explore bundle will be giving me 2 months. Though I own a lot of carts so will have fun with the library while I can but I don't think I will subscribe.

You might want to check out Explore vs. Silhouette since they are very similar in that you download files. I wouldn't be much help since I have neither but many of the refugees have done comparisons and could help you out.

thanks for all the replies - I will stick with my expression. I've been collecting a few cartridges and just need to play a little bit more to get comfortable. I don't really want to be tied to internet or computer. Thanks,

I just got the explore and it's hooked up and ready to roll! I am, however, keeping my expression out and ready so I can use either machine whenever I choose! It took me longer than it should have because I had about half of my cartridges linked to my gypsy and needed them uploaded to craft room so I could use them on the new explore! I'd let myself get lazy and didn't keep everything up to date so I had to take the time and update all the really old stuff! Not gonna do that again!
