I am >this< close to buying one of these in the largest size. I know I want a glass mat, and I figure I may as well go with the largest size to help protect the top of my 2 month old desk. I was just going to have a full-sized glass top cut at a local glass shop, but the lines and the magnetization on the Glass Board Studio are a big draw for me. For those who have one, do you find that it’s not as magnetized as you’d like? I was looking at the reviews for it on Amazon, and a couple mentioned that paper still scoots around on the mat, even when using the magnets that the manufacturer recommends. My crafting desk is also my regular desk in my office/den/guest room, so I really would prefer the streamlined look of this item, IF it works well, Thanks for any info you can share

I can check that today. The neodymium magnets the manufacturer sells are round like like the ones that come with stamping platforms, just encased in plastic shaped like a Parcheesi piece for easy holding. That’s not much surface area, which is why many switch to bar magnets to use even in our little platforms. They were considering selling bar magnets, also encased for easy handling but they’re not up [yet?] on their site.
Anyway, the point is it may be that the size of the magnet isn’t optimal rather than the board. I’ll try both types of magnets.
Btw, for stenciling I tape the top of the stencil down and use it like a hinge to lift up to check the application of ink or paste, so if needing more medium can plop it back down in the exact same position—a Tim Holtz thing. So the magnetic aspect isn’t that important.
A glass shop cut plexiglass to cover my desks and drawer unit tops since it’s warmer and less clanky sounding when setting hard things on it than glass.

I have the magnetized mat and for stenciling, I use two or three of the chess shaped magnets and I feel like it is secure and easy to move the magnets around as I use different parts of the stencil. My Misti bar magnet will hold onto the mat but not enough to hold a piece of paper down. I appreciate that my dies and things don’t stick to the mat—that would be hard to get used to!

Agree! 😄 Our dies can’t stick to the glass mat since the dies—and the board—aren’t magnets. They’re magnetic, attracted to magnets. And MichyM I should have asked what you’d want to hold onto the board with magnets - just stencils or something else? I fake stenciled with Parcheesi piece magnets and then a couple of bar magnets and it was fine. But my left hand is still on top the stencil and paper. Goal is to use some mediums in stencils later today, a better test. (Arm test too.) Washi tape is wrapped around the middle of my bar magnets with a tab sticking up for a handle. Otherwise they’re hard to pick up. They’re 3 x 1/2 x 1/8”. This may have been noted earlier - Mary Polanco’s youtube channel has a 20% off coupon for the glass boards. And if you want the lines darker you can let them know.

That said, I just paid my CC bill for the previous billing cycle and the glass mat, and a wall rack for my ink pads are going to have to wait a while. I did not say NO to myself enough in late March and April Between my trip to NYC and a ridiculous amount of card making supplies, it was a little scary to pay (my banking app even warned me that "this amount is larger than normal" when I went to pay it
