Mom is moving into an ALF. I want to get something that is easy for her to use to call and see me and i can see her. I have a kindle already. Can the Show hook up to my existing kindle to talk and see or does it go to my android cell phone? Also, is she able to play games and whatnot on it. Any advice on this is greatly appreciated.

Bump to top for you. I don't have answers but I'm curious and I know other peas can help!

I do know that a Kindle is only for reading. Cannot connect for visuals, phone calls or apps.

I think it's lovely that you're doing this for your mom and she's sre to appreciate it. Have you tried googling each of your questions seperately? I don't "speak" Show, and don't have any Kindle devices, but (for example) when I did a quick search about a Show calling a Kindle, several hits came up that might help. Then google "can I play games on Amazon Show" and see what comes up. Good luck!

You would do it from the Alexa app on your phone from your end.

I have a Kindle, but it is only capable of reading. It is a few years old, so maybe the newer ones are capable of more than mine is. What is the device that I see so many commercials for where the families both have this screen and can talk to each other. It also follows them around the room. I'm trying to think of the name of it. I wasn't in the market for one so I didn't pay that much attention. Let me think a bit.

Look at the Facebook Portal. I googled video devices for seniors and it came up as an easy device for them to use. I don't know anything about them though. Maybe someone else here has one? It says it has Alexa built into them.

I believe there are kindles that are more like a tablet vs just an eReader. If you have one of those then I'd guess it would work.
My in-laws have an Amazon Show and really enjoy it. We have a Google Nest Max (same idea) and use it all the time. Unfortunately the two can not talk to each other. But my kids do use the Nest Max to call (voice or video) my and dh's Andriod/Google phones. I know that we have used Google Chat to do video calls with my in-laws but I think they were in their phones not the Show. Sorry not sure that was much help.

I have an Echo Show 8. It is not the simplest thing to operate. If she is not tech savvy, I would not use a Show as a communication device.
It's great for watching Netflix, Prime, etc. I love putting pictures on it to play as a side show. You can use it as your Alexa. I never use it for communication though.
Does she have any kind of cell phone?
I would go with something on the cell phone or an iPad for the easiest ways to video chat.
SnapChat video calls are SUPER easy.

Ask her ALF about putting personal devices that need wi-fi to operate. This is going to be an area they will have regulations about. You don't want to spend time searching for options that you can't use if you can't access wi-fi. We wanted to set a echo dot in my grandma's room so she and we could use the drop in communication since she has forgotten how to use a telephone. but we aren't allowed to access the wi-fi.

They are more like an iPad then an e reader, I don’t know why Amazon calls them Kindle Fire instead of just Fire because it causes an enormous amount of confusion. The show is very easy to use and you can call and see each other on them.

We have no problem with them other then I have to remember to talk slower then I usually do.

We bought Shows for our mothers' awhile back. Best thing we ever purchased. We just "drop in" and can see and chat. We also have a show, but can also drop in from the app on our phones. It has given us such peace of mind since we live far away.
It really has helped us feel more connected and accessible.
"Drop In" gets video features and "call" is audio only.

I spoke with them and we pay extra for the wifi, which we don't mind. But I can see how it could be a problem.

My brother and kids just text me pics and I add it to the album and they show up automatically. I do have the shopping turned off and only have the weather on the screen. They didn't need the news briefs or other "suggestions".

Glad to hear it is an option for you!

I don't know if this will help but there is a phone app called Duo. It works on Androids or Apple devices for video calls. It may work easily for your mom to have a video call with you.

I have duo for my college daughter. Mom needs a new phone. Once she has the wifi, i will see if she can work it. It really is simple, but she talks herself into her not knowing how to do things like that.

We just tell the show to call so and so and it does. Ha! I am definitely over complicating it for myself! LOL I mostly use mine for watching movies/TV while doing dishes in my Kitchen.... Good to know that it can work easily for video calls.
