I know a lot of us use Flickr to host photos to share and a lot of us were inconvenienced when they announced in 2018 that free accounts couldn't have more than 1000 photos. I remember having to delete all my old photos so that I could continue to post photos here. So you can imagine my surprise and disgust when I read this in my email: Gee, thanks Flickr! I'm glad I spent all that time deleting my own photos for nothing. Anyway... that was in reference to their new rules that are coming into effect sometime soon. all the details blog.flickr.net/en/2022/03/17/flickr-forever-2022/ but the most relevant part: So if you're not paying to be a pro member and you're sharing from a private Flickr/you have things set to share only with friends/family they're going to delete photos. Probably. (Or maybe they just secretly won't?? IDK).

Y'know, I've never been a Flickr user, so I can't comment on this from that perspective, but it's my pet peeve when companies couch their financial decisions in language that makes it seem like it's best for the customer. I would have a lot more respect if Flickr just said something about how hosting pictures is increasingly expensive and unfortunately they have to start charging money for it, so only 50 non-public photos will be allowed.
I use the password manager LastPass, which used to be free, but I got a similar email last year where they said that you could still have a free account, but ONLY if you used it JUST on mobile or JUST on desktop (I forget their convoluted reasoning). If you use a hybrid approach, you had to start paying. I think most people who need a password manager (i.e., use technology a lot) will have some sort of hybrid approach, so this was frustrating. The charge is $35-40ish per year, so not outlandish and I'm happy to pay it rather than start with another password manager that might end up charging as well, but again, I wish LastPass had just said that it was too expensive to offer the service for free anymore instead of making it seem like it was a decision made with users in mind.

I deleted all my private photos from Flickr this weekend because of this. I'll still use it for photo sharing here but that's it.

I guess it's for our benefit that they don't go out of business, but still... I got another email like that the other day, can't remember from what company, and it just made me mad. And I had the same thing you did with LastPass from Evernote, saying I could only use it on 1 or 2 devices at a time without paying, so I hardly use it at all now.

That's super annoying, since I make all my photos private on Flickr to share here. I probably won't go back and delete any just now, but at least I won't be surprised if they disappear. I'll have to think about how I want to share my layouts going forward.

I deleted the vast majority of my photos from Flickr because of that earlier announcement. I'll probably go and delete them all now and just keep the space for when I ant to share something here. Really annoying!

I only use it to share cards here especially in October for Cardtober. Otherwise I link my IG pics. They are all public so I don't have to worry about this. I can see that if I would make LOs with pictures of my family I would hate that to be public, but probably I wouldn't share those here either. This is a public site after all.

I think having 50 private photos might be enough for sharing here, just with the downside that the old links will break as you replace them with newer photos to share. But I'm not sure how much people are going back and looking at shared pages from 2 or 3 months or years ago. It's a hassle though. I'm not sure there are many good alternatives. I believe Linda links her pages here from a private Fbk album.

Really annoying! Probably no rush on deleting yet - there's no timeline in the email and who knows if they'll change their minds again and we'll have gone to the trouble of deleting for nothing. At least this only applies to private/friends/family photos unlike the last go-around when it was limits on everything. I mostly only have public photos of Flickr since they are for the purpose of sharing here (so they're mostly cards).

Argh, I noticed a while back that some of your links weren't working! What a nuisance How is Imgur working out?
