If you play along with Shimelle for Best of Both Worlds, and you "shop from your stash" for your kit, please post it here! Ryann , if you have time, could you post yours? (It's awesome!!) cannmom I'm not sure if you've done April, but would love to see your March kit you pulled! Here is my April kit and the link to Shimelle's youtube www.youtube.com/c/shimellelaine/videos and April kit www.scrapbook.com/myplace/index.php?mod=shopping&u=1135013&m=wish&sscid=31k6_noencPaper: 10 sheets 12x12, Shimelle had 7, (with the exception of the Doodlebug pack, which I sub with cardstock) but some of mine is not double sided. 1 sheet of Heidi Grace/Fiskars Cherrywood Lane 2 sheet no-name (came out of some random DCWV stack) plaid, soft pink/pale yellow, pink/gray 1 sheet WR Memory Keepers White Out Collection 1 sheet Basic Grey Sweet Threads Edgy Stripe (last one! ) 1 sheet Basic Grey Sweet Threads Spring Tote (last one!) 1 sheet WR Memory Keepers Inked Rose 1 sheet October Afternoon Willow Path 1 sheet Obed Marshall Buenos Dias Happy Mosaic 1 sheet Shimelle Never Grow Up Flutterby (I had this, and it was in the April kit) 1 6x6 pad of Pink Paislee Little Adventurer (mostly for punches and tags, it has seen some use, lol) 1 6x8 pad of Shimelle Head in the Clouds (might not use this, but grabbed it anyway, might be good for matting) Stickopatomus stickers in random stars and flowers, liked the colors. 2 used Thickers sets, I think one is supposed to be for a birthday, but it has good colors and some non-birthday sayings. 2 stamp sets, Shimelle Never grow up and a random one I got at M's years ago. 3 oxide inks that I already own, Tumbled Glass, Wild Honey and Picked Raspberry. Shimelle has Saltwater Taffy in her kit for April, but I don't know if I actually need that ink. I don't tend to use a lot of peach. I'm on the fence. Anyway, I am using what I have. Half used pack of Shimelle Never Grow Up Blooms. Random journaling cards, some from Prima Nursery collection. Additional cardstock in various colors. Using my Cricut for titles and such. Punches (probably my heart punch and star punch) for little bits and bobs. EE9F5273-E0A7-4C07-8DC8-162C38AE47A7 by K Mage, on Flickr

Do you attempt to match Shimelle’s choices of colors, patterns, or something else? Basically how do you decide what to pull from your stash if you don’t have any of the stuff she selects?

This is the BOBW (stash) kit I will be using in April. I didn't pull any enamel dots (mine are all mixed together) or stamps/stencils/inks. I have to be "in the mood" to do mixed media so I will likely just do as inspired in the moment. Details: Studio Calico - Seven Paper - Goldie #009 paper Crate Paper - Heart Day - My Love paper Paige Evans - Bloom Street - #24 paper Bella Blvd - Squeeze the Day - Sweet Skies paper Pebbles - Hip Hip Hooray! - Party Time paper PhotoPlay - Tulla & Norbert - I Love Gnomes paper Shimelle - Never Grow Up - Flutter By paper Jillibean Soup - Coconut Lime Soup - Straw Mushrooms paper I also have larger scrap (maybe 12x10) of an unknown patterned paper that looks like a floral Pebbles or maybe Jen Hadfield design. Photoplay - For the Love of Summer - 12x12 sticker sheet (only about 25% remain) Bella Blvd - Squeeze the Day - 12x12 sticker sheet Simple Stories - Summer Days - 12x12 sticker sheet Amy Tangerine - Picnic in the Park - 6x12 foam sticker sheets Maggie Holmes - Sweet Story - 12x12 chipboard sticker sheet

Do you attempt to match Shimelle’s choices of colors, patterns, or something else? Basically how do you decide what to pull from your stash if you don’t have any of the stuff she selects? This is a great question! Shimelle says to go through her kit, and your paper/supplies and look for what you might have that matches what she has, only in your stash. Every month she does a short video where she "goes through" the upcoming kit, after she's received it, so you can sort of see it IRL and make sure you've got everything you want and need. Here is the link where she does this for the March kit. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J1olQPTAWw&t=5sSo for example, in the April kit she has a lot of florals, and some polkadots and stripes and a plaid. I don't have any heart paper that went with this and she has one, so I will pull in the hearts with a stamp or a punch. I was bummed that the foam strips sold out right away, as I am out of them, but I'll use foam squares instead. I will try and use her affiliate links if I need something like adhesive or foam blenders, as that goes to support the channel and I feel like I get a LOT of value out of this. I will say one of the biggest challenges for me with BOBW kit is that I need to know what I am scrapping. I don't have a home photo printer, so I can't print on the fly or make decisions like that. So I need to at least have a somewhat working knowledge of what I might be scrapping along with her for the month. (full disclosure, I also scrap other stuff during the month, not with BOBW kit) So I pull out a stack of pics (in this case random ones of my two nieces, 2 and 4, could not be cuter lol) and built the kit around the colors in those photos, and some stuff I thought would be nice for two little girls. Sorry so long, but I hope that helps!

I don't follow the BOBW technique as I don't scrap by kits. But when I shop my stash, I grab a paper or sticker that speaks to me and then pull from other lines/companies that match the color or theme and go from there. So if her color theme or paper theme isn't speaking to you, you could always see what you want to scrap (Christmas, spring, every day stuff), and go with colors that match the photos or go with what you are drawn to and build a kit from there. I love when I can cross companies and use 2 or 3 together. It's always easier within a company (CP, PP, etc) but you get more bang for your buck when you can combine companies. Just another idea for anyone looking at building kits.

I made up an April kit that I plan to take to a crop later this month, which means I also need to find photos. Stuck with the bright colors with about 1/2 being Shimelle’s paper/thickers and oddly enough, I had the SC Hey Girl scrapbook kit that I was going to pull the orange alpha from, and added that with my kit to supplement it. The colors seemed to work.
I’ve watched a number of the BOBW videos and this is the 1st time I’ll have a kit to work along. Which makes me realize how bummed I am that Shimelle won’t have future collections, I really loved them!
Did anyone watch the 1st layout video from Friday? I watched as I was pulling my kit, and honestly, was a tad disappointed and may skip that one. I had it in my mind that even if I chose different colors and embellishments, at the least I generally love her layouts and that one didn’t do much for me. Kind of feel like it’s a one-off miss, though.

Did anyone watch the 1st layout video from Friday? I usually watch the Friday ones live as they fall at a reasonable hour for me on a Friday night. That layout was also not my favourite, I quite like the two photos placed on the edges, but I'm not a fan of the controlled sticker sneeze and inky centre section. If I lift this one I will either leave that middle section completely open, or at the very least, not have the loose embellishment gathering go right across like she did.

I didn’t love that first layout either. I was particularly disappointed because I love that yellow heart paper she used as the background, ordered it, and then didn’t like how she used it at all. And it won’t be popping up in another way later in the month because she used the whole darn sheet.
I didn’t care for that sketch/layout idea overall. I still see the middle section as pseudo trapped space - it’s just kind of awkward to me. Not a fan of the scattered stickers.
In the middle of the second live now. Having a bit of cringe over WB’s title letters at this moment. 😂

I agree, this one was challenging for me. Here is my take on it. I do like how it turned out, not my fave, but it's ok. But I needed to stencil, not do a smooshy ink section, as I just could not get behind that one. 69760B07-D150-44D7-901D-6BED118C2942 by K Mage, on Flickr

Your layout turned out nice, I think your stenciled area ties better with the photo on each side compared to the BOBW layout, so it almost reads as a strip all the way across to me. And the dark color of the title helps tie them together, too. Cute embellishments!

Did anyone watch the 1st layout video from Friday? I think my biggest issue with the first layout is the lack of contrast - it was all the same tone. I'm sure it's more colorful in person, but on video it reads as one tone; which for me = blah. I also wasn't sure about the wide open space between the photos (with the non-"sticker sneeze" lol). I took a cue from kmage and used a stencil to bridge the gap. It's not my favorite, but I also don't feel the urge to re-do it!

Ryann, I love it! I think it looks great, the blue butterflies are such a good contrast to the paper and the way you did them circular with open space in the middle makes it look really light and airy. I also really like the tone on tone orange dot and paper.

kmage I like your version of it a lot, the stencilling in the middle makes such a difference to how the design reads overall and the more vertical line of embellishments through that section makes it feel less like trapped space. Ryann I love your take on it too. The angled photos and the circular shape to your stencilling make such a difference to the overall design, super pretty!

I still see the middle section as pseudo trapped space - it’s just kind of awkward to me. Not a fan of the scattered stickers. Take this with a grain of salt since I'm a watcher/lurker, not an active scrapper, but couldn't you just add another photo in that middle trapped space, or a journal card. Then the stickers across the top would make more sense and the title could go above or below the line of photos, or partially overlap the middle photo...? I know it's a stretch from the sketch, but especially if you wanted to scrap along and use that yellow heart background now you still could. Or just use that as a tone on tone layer or background in a future layout. She's going to use those tone on tone papers she has as extras as the month goes on so the yellow hearts could sub in for one of them where it suits your photos. (I personally used it to make cards, it's a great background, so versatile for me, I love it. Again, grain of salt, I'm a cardmaker and super simple scrapper)

Oh, totally, joblackford! I won’t let that cute paper go to waste. Adding an extra pic or journaling card in the middle is an easy remedy. I’m just whining. Lol. It’s always an extra jolt of enthusiasm and creative frenzy when I click with Shimelle’s finished page, and this one was a wompwomp for me. She recently did one with a rainbow stamped background and rainbow stripe middle column that totally sent me 😍😍 I’m only just barely wading back into traditional scrapbooking after a decade of pocket pages. Having an absolutely wonderful time. It feels all fresh and new again, and I’m learning what I like and don’t like. I know I didn’t like that particular layout.

kmage and Ryann I love both of your layouts!! (and Ryann your kitty is TOO CUTE!!) I like both of your versions better than the original, lol. I think the original looks a little flat for me, and I didn't see it with the journaling. Also, I think the stickers she chose were too small for what she used them for. I haven't watched all her videos, but isn't this layout similar to the "Haunted Mansion/Miss Piggy" one she posted on instagram recently?

It has the same concept of putting the two photos on either side of the paper, only she has a journaling card in the middle. And instead of stickers/embellishments she used paper borders. I can't link the exact post because I am not logged in but if you scroll down a ways, it's the layout with the pink background paper. www.instagram.com/shimelle/?hl=en
