Die sets are always expensive but this set of 4 dies is $50!!! I just can’t justify that. SSS die setWhat’s the most you’ve paid for dies?

Oofta! That's too rich for me.
Not sure what my most paid for was. I think maybe around $25 for a background die and had buyers remorse after.

$120 for an exclusive QK Revolution die that I couldn't get locally as we didn't have the craft store in state.
And then I think they used to go for $50 ? Or maybe $40 ?
Anyone remember?
Oh and then like what about $100-200 for QK alpha sets.
For 4 intricate dies that is $12.50 each which IMHO isn't bad. Especially if good quality. Some of the thin dies from Ali Express as thin and not good quality.

Yeah. Crazy prices. I've stopped buying dies except for simple shapes and mostly get those on amazon - super inexpensive. For everything else I use my Silhouette, find some similar line drawings, trace them, cut them. MUCH cheaper and less space.

I bought a set of six border dies for $20 and I thought that was a lot! I feel like I have to justify the use and make sure I will use it enough before purchasing. I'm the same with stamps!

I used to buy wood mounted steel rule dies, which were more expensive than the SSS dies linked, but the SSS dies are incredibly overpriced. I love Heartfelt Creations and Spellbinder dies. Both are higher quality than most manufacturers. Here is a link to one of their very detailed die sets. It includes 4 dies that coordinate with one of their stamp sets. It is approximately $30, and both the lattice and birdhouse dies are very detailed, unlike any of the SSS dies in the link you showed; yet the SSS set is $20 more, which is ridiculous! I know dies are expensive but that SSS is insanely so.

The prices at SSS for their brand stamps & dies are unreasonable. I would really like to get some if the CZ Design sentiment stamp/die sets but they are way over priced.
Honestly, SSS and Birch Press prices are what drove me to AliExpress. $20 for a leaf die or $70 for a layering circle was just ridiculous so I went elsewhere. If prices were at least reasonable, I’d spend my money with those companies.

I recently tracked down a retired die for a Mother's Day gift for my mom. Pretty simple die, yet as retired it was 25.00. I think it normally sold for 7-8 dollars. I could have gotten it used for cheaper, but I wanted new. I took a deep breath as I hit the buy button, but I kept reminding myself that it was a gift and even though I didn't care for it, she will love it.

The only time I can think of paying a lot of money for dies, was when Spellbinders was really the only thin dies in the game (Sizzix did thick steel rule dies, not sure when they started doing thin dies). I remember getting the full sets of all the basic shapes and the coordinating scalloped versions like $75 each set. I have circles, squares, rectangles, ovals and hearts. I never use them and really would be okay getting rid of them, but then I think of the cost I paid and I keep them. Ugh!

Wow, yeah, $50 is a lot for a die set. I get a lot of my metal dies on Amazon. They are not near that expensive.

SSS is pricing itself right out of the market. $75 for a set of stamps and dies is ridiculous. I’ve been buying PinkFresh Studio sets (stamps, dies and layering stencils) for around $50. I watched a video from Justine Hovey awhile back and it really made me rethink my purchases. If I don’t think I’m going to make enough cards to get the cost per card down to $2 or $3 each then I don’t buy it.

I try to buy basic stacking metal dies or more intricate dies I know I'll use more than once. I have an old Cricut Expression machine and haven't had much look with intricate cuts. I think maybe $20.00 and that was for Sizzlits before they changed how they are manufactured.
It seems like the stamp set should come with the dies for that price. They aren't even that big.

Right?!?? If it was $50 for the dies and stamps, I would definitely buy them.

That’s outrageous. The whole die set only measures 5 1/2” x 6”. Pretty steep price for small dies.

I don't understand why that set is so expensive! What's special about it? There are only 4 dies, and I don't see any reason why they should be priced so high. I looked at a stamp and die set from their new release the morning and was horrified that it was $45 and that the die only cut the floral, not the sentiments that went with it. I'm not paying for the die and then still having to cut the sentiments with scissors or a machine. $29 for a basic floral outline just seems too high, and 4 medium sized, not especially intricate shapes should definitely not cost $50! Plus, I could easily cut those shapes with scissors and I'm terrible at fussy cutting. I just keep going back and trying to see why they cost so much... IDK It makes the ScanNCut seem like even better value though! I've probably spent $35-40 on a cover plate die or MFT Blueprints set at some point but that seems too much for me these days even though I get a lot of use out of those basics.

I'm not paying for the die and then still having to cut the sentiments with scissors or a machine. That's how I base my die purchases. Will this be annoying to cut out by hand? I don't think I'm at the point where I can justify the scan n' cut but if I was really into these sets, I do see the benefit.

The dies are so basic, fussy cutting those stamped images wouldn’t be a hardship. Those costs are crazy.

SSS is my fav US store. However, this die set is way overboard for what you get. Maybe because they are solid metal shapes?

i recently paid $150 for two retired dies. i almost choked when i made the payment but i have been wanting them for some time so i finally pulled the trigger when two of them were listed for sale by the same seller. the next most expensive is $50 and yesterday I paid $30. ouch! I hope you you enjoy using them! you must share a pic of them Dies in NZ regularly go for $50.00 - $49.95 - but that is NZ dollars, and mainly TH. Some of the birch layering dies are over $100 at one of the retailers. I did however, purchase a punch from Amazon - and that was $80NZD by the time postage was added, and the exchange rate.
