Trying to wrap my head around streaming options and data caps, etc., is giving me a headache this afternoon.
Who are you using for an internet only provider?

Windstream/Kinetic in SW Iowa (for me anyway, there's a cable co option in town also but phone co is cheaper)

It's going to differ based on your location. We use WOW.

Is Verizon a "cable company" or an "other"? Probably a dumb question but I don't know anything about any of this. I just know that we've had Verizon FIOS forever and through that we get TV, phone, and internet.

It's going to differ based on your location. We use WOW. The specific cable/satellite/other will vary for sure. I'm more interested in whether people are shifting to satellite over cable or some other option. What kind of service is WOW?

We use TDS, but I don't know if they are just around here.

We just switched. Fiber finally came through and we dumped Cox. Fiber with Century Link (which has shitty, shitty customer service) but speeds blow away Cox and we’re locked into $60/mo for life.

Comcast - we've had no problems with it - fast enough for streaming even with multiple devices connected
Previous house (we moved Feb 2021) - we have ATT Uverse - also fine - we did have to upgrade as the kids got older and there were more phones/laptops connected. I don't care much for AT&T's customer service (at a previous house we ended up having to call the PUC to resolve an issue) but we really didn't have a problem with Uverse.
to be honest in my area - it depends on where you live in the county...some areas are served by Comcast, some are served by AT&T, many don't have any internet service at all.

Comcast/Xfinity for internet (I don't have cable). I am about to switch to Google Fiber though. They finally came to our building and for about $5 less a month I can go from (up to) 100mps DL to 1g.

Comcast. I hate them a lot less now that I only have internet through them. They really do have the best speed and connectivity.

Spectrum for internet only. We don’t use them for cable. I was very tempted to switch to Verizon FIOS, but hubby didn’t think there was a need.

I'm in a rural area so no typical options are available to me. I was lucky enough to get Starlink last year and it's been huge, a complete game changer for country living.

AT&T Fiber. No issues once they buried the fiber line properly. No cable in the last 7 years, streaming only.

Also AT&T fiber. Good stuff.
Older DD has a Verizon hot spot in her apartment and she’s very happy with it.

I am rural, so no cable option. The phone company does not send internet out as far as I live, so my options have always been limited. I used satellite internet for a while - do NOT do this. It is awful.
I now have a semi-local company that covers my area with a radio type signal. It is a 'line of sight' type service. The signal gets sent from their offices quite a ways north of me an bounces through various stations until it gets to the closest town to me. I have line of sight to the grain elevator and the signal is sent from on top of that to a dish in my yard.
Unlimited data and it is fairly fast (for what we can normally get) and the service is 100% impeccable. They are top notch!
$100/month.

Cox is our only option other than satellite, which is insanely expensive in comparison to our Cox package. Fiber is making its way to our neighborhood, at a glacial pace.
