I'm sure it goes state by state.
The company my sister worked for (she up and left her job.. it was a VERY toxic environment). But before she left, maybe a month, she want to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription. They told her that her meds were not covered or something. It was cheap enough and she really didn't think much about it and forgot. She hadn't been to the doctor or anything... but found out in the last few days that the company hadn't been insuring their employees since January. (you see, this is the tip of the iceberg on this company)
I would seriously think this would be against the law. No word to the employees about it either.. Can you imagine? Going to see your doctor and finding out you are not insured...
Since the company is pretty small (17 employees if that.. five of them have quit in the last two weeks.. no notices either except one person).. I am guessing no one was aware of it yet..
I doubt she does anything now about it... but sounds like a huge lawsuit in my eyes. I am just thankful she is out of there.
It is a HOA management company and while the company has grown picking up a lot of new properties to manage, they have not increased their staff and my sister who was doing payables was doing the work of FOUR people. With no raise. Making barely over minimum. She even had a meeting with the owner who said she would think it over for a raise, that was in January. The day my sister walked out, the owner sent her a text saying she got the raise (she was totally lying I am sure). She tried so hard for them.. we girls were raised that you don't quit a job, no burning bridges and you work hard. Period. No excuses.
My sissy will be fine, right now (she has good alimony) she has time to find something else.. It sucks though, it was her first real long term job since college (20 years ago.. she was a stay at home mom and then divorced about five years ago) and can't use them as a reference. I told her next job tell them the truth on what happened.. really. She is good at what she does so hopefully this won't discourage her.
