So I started making junk journals & several crafters are sewing on tags. Envelopes, etc. I think itβs really cute. What sewing machine do you recommend for beginners & for crafting. ( I donβt want the sew easy by WRMK.
Thanks!

I have an inexpensive Singer sewing machine from Walmart. It was around $100 and I have had it for 10 years. I use it only (mostly?) on paper though I have done the random fabric project on it as well. Nothing fancy but it has worked well for me.
Edit: actually, I remember now that I got it on Black Friday one year and I am pretty sure I got it for about $50 or so. But its comparable to the $100 models they have now.

Same as mom. Basic Singer I got from Joann's at least 5 years ago. I've made blankets, pillow cases, and some paper projects.

I donβt want the sew easy by WRMK. definitely stay away from any flimsy or novelty sewing machine. i sew a lot of my projects and use a regular sewing machine. i make sure i use a separate (regular) needle for paper sewing versus fabric sewing. you don't need a fancy sewing machine since 90% of your stitches will probably be straight or zig zag. buy a basic one. even a used one is great. just stay away from the novelty machines. they are not steady and the stitching may not be as good a quality as the regular basic machines.

I bought this Brother sewing machine in June 2021. It works very well and I'm happy with it. I looked at this one for a while but decided on choosing one that was a small step up.

I sew a ton, including several wedding dresses and ball gowns. If you are only going to sew on paper, Iβd stick to the $100 price range. It should be fine. Just donβt get tempted to hem jeans or something like that!

I use whichever my mother has set up with the needles reserved for my paper sewing needs when I'm at her home. She's a skilled seamstress with Singer, Pfaff and Bernina in her office space. You definitely don't need to invest in an expensive model to stitch on paper! I'd look at what is locally available for pickup. You'd be surprised how many people get rid of decent sewing machines at entry level prices.
