II've got a lot of vacation photos to scrap--probably 200 or so. I don't want to buy another core kit so I thought I'd just use up a good deal of my stash with existing cards. Of course this means each layout page will stand on it's own but I'm okay with that. So, do you stick to one kit throughout or change things up?

For a vacation I would pick a kit and use that throughout as the base, but it honestly doesn't matter.

I definitely use my stash and I'm ok with my pages looking different. If I wanted to keep some consistency but also use my stash I would use the PL gridded journaling cards and a date stamp on every lo, but then mix up the papers to my heart's content. I love being able to use up all the scraps of my favourite papers that were too small to use on a standard layout but work perfectly in this pocket format.

I think Chinagirl has given good advice...if you use something from the kit that would give consistency like using all the same journaling cards, then you could mix things up with your stash. I think that would work well, especially if you choose a color palette to use throughout or a "theme" like stripes or polka dots, etc.
Have fun working on your project!

Thanks. I really don't want to buy another core kit since I'd probably only use about half of it. Between my stash and cutting some of my own cards I think it'll work out fine.

I think it will be fine to mix stash and part of a kit.
The pp were right - use something that unifies the album as a whole. Repeat a stamp or embellishment. As easy as using the same arrow or date stamp over & over again. Or even variations on the same shape, like different sized circles or different cameras.
Good luck on your project! I love working on vacation and travel albums.

Perhaps you can pick a color scheme and use the cards from your stash to make it cohesive?
I always mix and match because I get bored of using the same cards over and over.
Good luck!

Ii am doing a vacation album right now, I'm using my stash and have little continuity apart from date stamp, and using the same alphabet in the same color for titles, I cut a lot of letters so I have them ready. I somewhat match the colors in the day's activities to papers and embellishments, but I don't particularly like very matchy, and this frees me up to not worry and create as fast as possible.

I am doing a 6x8 PL-vacationalbum right now, and I don't have a whole core kit, but I have 2-3 Mini-kits that have a similar colorpalette. I am using the PL-cards from the different kits that are pink/teal/white/yellow. Although there are slightly different styles on the cards, but the album will have the same 3-4 colors tieing it all together. I originally wanted to do all the photos in black/white, because then I am much more free to choose what colorpalette to use. But, vacationphotos in black/white is just so wrong I had to show off all the gorgeous colors of the ocean and beautiful nature. B/w is better for the everydayphotos.

I get bored if everything is the same colour/theme so I'm happy to mix things up, but there are some good ideas here about little touches that will help with the cohesion.

I mix it all up. I enjoy it that way.

The only time I have used a cork it is when I have to get an album done quickly, like a gift for somebody. Most the time I use my stash and each page or double page layout stands on its own.

I bought a couple of core kits and tried to document my 1?5-month summer trip last year... And I was bored to death with the core kit The variety of cards is not so great in the core kits. So I used my stash and every spread looks different- but hey, all of my photos are different so I was choosing the cards based on my photos and it worked great.

I only have a few kits, but most color coordinate with each other. I'll be working on an album for our alaskan cruise and I went through and picked out a few colors that go with most of the pics (brown, grey, teal, red, green). Those colors will go with the scenery (mountains, water, icebergs, small towns) as well as the totem poles, buildings, flowers, etc.
If i were doing an album with several different stops on the same trip(Disney, visiting friends, beach), I'd pick a color palette for each of those areas so that each leg of the trip is color coordinated in that section of the album. Disney would be red, black, and a couple other colors; friends would be something basic like brown, blue, green; beach would be blues and tans.
ETA- never mind- I just saw this thread was originally started in November!

I like to use core kits for random photos or some month in review pages. I like to do my own thing on holiday/events/birthdays or other things with a theme. I have plenty of that stuff in my stash. Sometimes I'll take some core kit cards and mix them in with the theme pages.
