New to all of this and have a question. Once you unmount a rubber stamp from a wood block, how do you get it to cling to the stamp platform? I unmounted a stamp and it easily came off the wood block. Do I leave the foam backing on it? Now what? Do I need to get some type of cling adhesive on it? Any advice is welcome

Some prefer to leave the foam on the stamp. Some take it down to the bare rubber and add a foam backing. I took all of mine to the bare rubber and painted the back with Aleene’s Tack-It-Over-and-Over. I did that years ago, and for almost all of my stamps, it has worked very well. I had the odd one or two that were different/weird, but they were the fairly rare exception.
I was getting ready to move, and I needed to pare down the weight of our belongings. I had a huge collection of wood stamps that I had collected over 40 years of stamping. It took me awhile, just due to the sheer size of my collection, but it was worth it. This was before stamp platforms came out. Because mine are down to the bare rubber, when I use my platform, I use the bare rubber stamps like clear stamps.

I used to use a product called EZ Mount. It came in two versions - thick and thin. Thick was for bare rubber and thin for stamps that still had the foam cushion left on. I'm not sure if it is still available.

I used the EZ mount mentioned above (thick version). It was just OK. Sometimes the EZ Mounted stamps would just fall off the block/stamp platform. I ended up using removeable tape runner to old it in place. Purple Onion is a stamp company who sells un-mounted red rubber stamps. They sell THIS product for stamping their stamps. I already had the MFT Mirror Image stamp and use that and it works great. Not sure how or why, but it does. My low budget fix --> Rather than buy EZ mount or a mirror image stamp, you could use the back of a photopolymer stamp that is larger than your un-mounted rubber stamp and see if it works. Position the rubber stamp on your paper, place the back (solid) side of the photopolymer stamp over that then close the lid on the stamping platform and see if it picks it up. Then ink and stamp. Does that make sense?

I have removed almost all my wood mounted rubber stamps from the wood. If the stamp comes off the wood with the foam intact I leave it on and coat the back with a temporary glue usually I use tombow mono multi in the white bottle with the green caps. If the foam wants to shred I take them down to bare rubber and then use the mono multi. For stampin up sets, the foam usually stays intact and I will take the index sticker and stick that to the back of the stamp before I use the mono multi and then I have the image on the back of the stamp.

I always remove the block and all the cushion. Usually it peels off without too much trouble. If there is a problem I use a hair dryer (heat gun is too much) which loosens the glue. Then I apply the thick EZ mount. I have not had a problem with the stamp staying in place.
I would like stamp companies to sell just the rubber images, maybe for a little less.

I haven’t been to convention for at least a few years, but one of the last ones I went to, there was a company that sold bare rubber stamps. I bought a bunch, because they had some unique ones and were less expensive. I’ll see if I can figure out what the name of that company was.

Lost Coast Designs/Carmen's Veranda sells them at conventions. Linda made the sig stamp for my cards. I haven't been in contact for several years, I hope they are still in biz. They are located in Spokane.

...I would like stamp companies to sell just the rubber images, maybe for a little less. Note Catslife Press* offers both mounted & unmounted/no cushion rubber stamps. Unmounted stamps cost 1/2 the price of mounted stamps, & shipping is also 1/2 price if the order consists only of unmounted stamps. *I have no affiliation with this company, except as a satisfied repeat customer. The stamps are original designs, made in Oregon, deeply etched in red rubber, trimmed, make crisp/clean impressions, & the (optional) wood mount is smooth. While I haven't bought from them recently, their shipping (to the opposite coast) was fast & customer service unsurpassed.
