I have been digging in my scrap cupboard this morning looking for cb letters i can alter to use for a title on a LO I have in my mind... I have "naked" cb, and cb covered with various colours & patterns of pp. I have letters, and frames, and shapes like snowflakes and swirls.
Of course the letters I want are not in colours/patterns I need. Now I have a mission to make them work for me. I have seen videos where scrappers strip off the upper decorated layer and just start over, so that is prob what I will do. Can't remember exactly how she did it, but thinking a little steam might help... But then what? Paint? Sprays? Fussy cut pp to cover the cb shape? Wrap with ribbon or twine or washi? Oooooh... figure out a way to FOIL them?
Do you have chipboard in your stash? How have you used it in the past? How would you use it now?

I use it if I make mini books and need a sturdy cover. Sometimes if I want something with a little more dimension, I'll use the chipboard instead of foam.

I make templates with it. I find a shape or a picture and with old fashion carbon paper draw and cut the shape. I also make boxes. You can gesso & paint, I do that with pizza boxes and small shipping boxes. I make file dividers for my cards. I also collect it because I just might need it someday. One never knows what one never knows.

Mostly, it just sits in a drawer.

I also collect it because I just might need it someday. One never knows what one never knows. Ain't THAT the truth, ha ha! Of course I couldn't find my raw cb letters--or my considerable stash of TH "grungeboard" letters until AFTER I had stripped the tops off the coated ones. But I am having fun. Taking the top layer off was easy. I coloured some, using Vicki Boutin art crayons. And then coated those with glossy accents. One I traced onto the back of some pp and then fussy cut and glued the pp to the letter, did some sanding and inking, more glossy accents. Tried using gesso and white paint on a couple, but didn't like the sharp white with my grunge look, so changed those up. Still playing...

I put some glue on my older cb and cover it with foil. Love it.

My favorite way to cover plain/naked chipboard is to paint it with acrylic paint. I usually do three coats of paint, waiting for it to dry between each coat.

I love the look of chipboard letters covered with PP and then inked and coated in glossy accents. Usually I only do this when I can use the big alphabet dies at my LSS and then I can cut the letters and PP at the same time. I admire your patience in fussy cutting the PP, but it is a great use of something that would otherwise go unused. I hope you share some pictures of your refurbished chipboard...I know I would find it very inspiring.

I have a good stack and had planned on using some of that for some cards. I also just realized I have a lot of alpha dies and I should use them with this CB and some paper. No more need of Thickers! The same can be done with foam for foam Thickers. Now THAT I have done before!

I mostly use it to add dimension under something just like you would with foam squares. I tried getting into paint and covering it with paper but it always looked messy and had too much of a "homemade" look for me.

I have seen videos where scrappers strip off the upper decorated layer and just start over This is how I use most of my old Chipboard alphas that I have left. I am a big fan of painting them and use mostly paint or mists/sprays (darker colours work better with the tone of kraft) but I do love just coating them in glossy accents and glittering them, I know that is not for everyone but I do love glitter. I got rid of all of the chipboard shapes that I knew I would never use years ago and I just kept the basics like hearts, stars, circles etc. I don't use them all that often, I guess out of sight out of mind but I do pull them out on occasion and have a manageable amount left.

Well I made some of my own using chipboard. I drew a pattern with pencil on the chipboard, cut out with a sharp knife, painted a light gesso over and then collaged with tissue papers. Worked for me!

I drew a pattern with pencil on the chipboard, cut out with a sharp knife, painted a light gesso over and then collaged with tissue papers. Worked for me! That sounds like an awesome idea! I used to cut stencils in chipboard with an Xacto knife and then use then for stencilling with a stylus. Not easy, but definitely possible. But, I might try this with some of the frames that have the designs on top: could remove the top layer like I did on my letters.

I have some too, and haven't used it for a hot minute. I haven't worked much at home, and want to use it. I don't want to take it to crops, because it means taking more supplies. In the past, using it, I've painted it, glittered it, covered it in paper. I like to paint them, to match colors better. I used a lot of glitter when DD was younger. It's fun to cover them in paper and use different colors/patterns (like your picture!)
Soon I'll be a little house bound, so maybe I'll work on some of them!

Thanks so much for all your kind comments and cool ideas! I need to grab my step stool (again) and get up to the top shelf where my cb lives. Thinking I might pull out some stars and hexagons and frames to play with when I feel like playing a game of "what if..."
