We recently had a fantastic meal of blackened mahi-mahi. We got home from our vacation, bought some mahi-mahi, and I found a recipe online that seemed pretty similar, from a website that I like (What's Gaby Cooking had a blackened salmon recipe) It was delicious and took 12 minutes total to prepare. I don't love all fish, but I'm trying to eat more and I'm thrilled to have a quick and delicious recipe.
How about you? Have you found a recipe to replicate a favorite restaurant meal, or have you been able to make up a recipe that was a good copy?

Yes, the Miso Salmon from Cheesecake Factory. Just the Salmon, not the butter sauce surrounding it.

We used to have fun recreating restaurant meals from Todd Wilbur’s Top Secret Recipe books. The kids would pick one every couple weeks and we would make it together. Some were better than others but most had the same overall taste as the restaurant meal.
I often buy a local area cookbook when I travel, or one from a restaurant we visited and have ended up with a few delicious meals from those.

I never had the restaurant Bonefish Grill's Bang Bang Shrimp, but discovered a low calorie version of it from Skinnytaste called Bangin' Good Shrimp. It's awesome and I have been making it regularly for years.

The first think that leaps to mind is I copied/recreated the spinach salad from the Royal House in New Orleans.
Baby spinach with crumbled bleu cheese, dried cranberries, candied pecans, thin slices of granny smith apple, and grilled shrimp.
Although I occasionally add extras like chopped bacon and mandarin orange sections.
DH likes my fish tacos better than the ones we get at our favorite Mexican restaurant, and I didn't even copy theirs, LOL.

I do this all the time. It started with recreating Shrimp Santorini in the late 80s and most recently Golden Beet Ceviche from a Mexican restaurant in Vancouver. I love trying to recreate a great dish.

Yes I have. Our favourite restaurant has a pork belly signature dish, that pretty much everyone who eats there orders. I bought the restaurant's cookbook and made it myself (total of 6 hours cooking time) and it tasted exactly the same as the restaurant's version. I was so thrilled.
Mind you, I'd prefer to pay $34 and have someone else cook it for me, than spend 6 hours cooking it myself.

Not from any place you might have heard of, but there's a hoppin' breakfast and lunch place near me that makes some really creative salads. I've made a few of them for myself after enjoying theirs.

Several years ago, we went for lunch to Boston Pizza. DH is a big soup fan, so we both ordered their soup of the day to begin. It was tomato ravioli and was delicious. I thought I would give it a try at home and I think I have succeeded! It's the easiest thing ever. One can of Campbell's tomato soup, one can of water, one can of Chef Boyardee mini ravioli. Add some black pepper, celery salt, cumin, basil, a dash of Worcestershire sauce and a dash of Frank's hot sauce. Whisk until serving temperature and enjoy!

We have a restaurant at our marina that makes fabulous ribs. I asked them how and they said they cooked it very slowly so I found a recipe that makes the ribs very tender by cooking much longer than I normally used to. They only thing I can't replicate quite the same is the sauce.

Yes - we had a lovely herby spaghetti meal in Spain when we were visiting friends. The waiter told me what was in it but I didn’t have any quantities to follow but had a stab all the same when I got home. It’s one of our favourites now.

We get them at the beach and they are so good!

Since he retired, my husband has taken up cooking as a hobby. He loves to try and recreate dishes we've had at restaurants.
Probably my very favorite is his recreation of Torcy's Tacos guacamole salad. It's a pretty simple recipe, but it took him awhile to figure out the ratio of all the ingredients. Once he figured out the proper ingredients and ratios, he kept trying to add things to it to make it even tastier. I told him that the Torchy's version was perfection according to my taste buds. Now I beg him to make it for lunch or dinner every other week or so.

I do this often. I love being able to tweak a recipe to work with my food allergies or to make it a little healthier. But it’s surprising how many restaurant recipes are online.

I haven't specifically recreated a restaurant dish, but in the spring/summer of 2020 when restaurants were closed, I made a few Mexican recipes because my kids and I missed going out for Mexican food. I did manage to make a few good things, but we were happy when restaurants started opening back up. LOL

I frequently attempt to recreate restaurant meals. I’m usually pretty successful. I enjoy cooking when I have time to do so.

I really want to find a reproduction of Outback Steakhouse's tortilla soup. I found one on line but it wasn't even close.

That was me with Panera Broccoli Cheddar soup...it's dd's favorite. I've tried a couple copy cat recipes and dd said they were not close. I loved them, but I don't get the soup at Panera.

I make the copycat version of Longhorn's parmesan crusted chicken that comes out really close (I don't had the bread crumbs). Can you share the recipe please? littlemama - here is the actual recipe. 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, pounded to 3/4 inch thickness Marinade: 1/2 cup olive oil 1/2 ranch dressing 3 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon of vinegar 1 teaspoon lemon juice 1 tablespoon minced garlic 1/2 teaspoon pepper Ranch Spread: 1/4 cup grated parmesan 1/4 cup ranch dressing Parmesan Crumb Topping: 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs 1 teaspoon garlic salt 1/3 shredded parmesan 2 tablespoon melted butter 1 cup of shredded provolone Marinade chicken: combine all ingredients & pour over chicken. Marinate 2-3 hours or overnight. Grill chicken until thoroughly cooked. Prepare the ranch spread & parm topping. Bake chicken: position rack in center of oven, preheat broiler. Place chicken in casserole dish. Spread 2 tbs of ranch spread on each breast, then top with probolone and parm topping. Place under broiler until cheese melts and crumb topping begins to turn light brown.
