I live in Brooklyn and just saw in the news that there were no working cameras in the 36th Street station. They got an image of the suspect from a bystanders cell phone.

I live in Brooklyn and just saw in the news that there were no working cameras in the 36th Street station. They got an image of the suspect from a bystanders cell phone. Wow, that’s terrible. I would expect that the MTA will be checking as many cameras as possible to make sure that they are working ASAP. With all the people who rely on the subway system daily, it seems like a huge target (in general) to me, and there’s no excuse for any of them not to be functional. I hope the bystander’s image proves to be helpful.

I am curious why the doors were locked. Usually people can move freely between cars. Or did people in the other car lock the door? I can't recall if the commuter train I used to take had locks on the doors. One report said they have been locking the doors since Covid started in 2020. Don’t know why. I would assume it was to limit prolonged exposure to other people. If one person in one car has Covid, they could only spread it to people in the same train car as they are in.

My niece live in Brooklyn, and that is her subway stop. She was there on her way to work literally 10 minutes before the shooting. She has only lived there since October, and is completely shaken up. I told her that this could happen anywhere, any time, and all you can do is be aware of your surroundings and trust your intuition.

Very glad she was not there and was not injured. Tell her it is ok to talk to someone if needs to. Wishing her the very best!!!

There has been a YouTube video posted of the person of interest... It seems to show him ranting and raving etc...I will suggest, do NOT open it with children around, language is not good. YouTube rants linked to 'person of interest' in NYC subway mass shooting: report Bob Brigham April 12, 2022 Authorities have announced that Frank James, 62, is a person of interest in the attack. The New York Times and Daily Beast have now both linked James to a YouTube account. "The police released a screenshot of Mr. James taken from a YouTube video posted by a channel belonging to the username prophetoftruth88," The Times reported. "The videos featured a man — who appeared to be the same man in a picture released by the police — delivering extended tirades, many of them overtly concerned with race and violence, often tying those subjects in with current events, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the policies of Mr. Adams. Two law enforcement officials said that Mr. James was the person featured in the channel’s videos." The man in the video complained about Mayor Eric Adams, a former NYPD captain, was unable to control crime on the subway and said the mayor's plans to combat gun violence were "doomed to failure." The Daily Beast noted his discussions of mental health. youtu.be/9Jb1vkQaUO4www.rawstory.com/nyc-subway-shooting-frank-james-youtube/

I'm impressed with how quickly the shooter was identified and hope he is in custody soon. I don't understand how you go from ranting about violence to being the one creating the violence.

Fabulous job on the part of all the police in NYC! They were just riding down the street, saw him, arrested him without incident. With all the complaints, the NYPD is very good overall. Just heard there was a civilian sighting of him near Canal St, also lower eastside.. so they may have been more alert.

So from what I heard on the radio, he was ranting about Ketanji Brown Jackson being married a white man. Just wait until he finds out that white man's brother is married to Paul Ryan's sister-in-law. I am amazed and thrilled that they found him so quickly.

TG for all of the technology that made his identification and apprehension so quick. And great job by the NYPD. I hope the victims are able to make a full recovery, both physically, and mentally.
