SUNSET PARK, Brooklyn -- At least 13 people were shot or otherwise hit by shrapnel on multiple subway stations along the northbound N train line in Brooklyn Tuesday morning.
Now, a manhunt is underway for a gunman described as wearing a gas mask and an orange construction vest.
At least four of the victims were found at the 36th Street subway station in Sunset Park and another at the 25th Street station in Greenwood Heights just before 8:30 a.m.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the shootings took place on the train or in the stations.
A possible smoke device was also used during the shootings.

CBS showing lots of pictures.
When train doors opened at 25th street station, suspect threw some sort of smoke bomb onto train and started shooting into the subway car. The train than proceeded to the 34 street stop where help started to arrive.
Various news stations are reporting 5 shot and 13 injured. From the pictures on CBS, looks like more than 5 people bleeding.
So scary.

I live in Brooklyn and woke up to a ton of text messages, I was to go into the office but changed my mind last night, I don't live near the line effected. Its such a crazy time. Not sure if going into the office will happen for a while.

16 patients treated, 10 with gunshot wounds. 5 in critical but stable condition.

In addition to possible cameras it's often the case that eventually someone turns in the person who did it. The police set up tip lines for this very reason. Of course they get all sorts of false tips but then one real one will make up for all that. |

How awful. I'm confused -- was the shooter in the car throwing a smoke bomb and shooting? Or was he at a subway platform shooting into the car? Was he wearing a gas mask throughout the entire time?
I guess it's still really early to know details. I remember with the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, there was so much misinformation out there. The timeline for the story didn't really become clear for quite a while.

When the doors opened he threw some sort of smoke bomb into the car and then the shooting started. I have not heard anyone say if he stayed in the car as the train moved to the next station or if he escaped at that station. The train did move to the next station where people escaped and help arrived. There is video of someone trying to get into the next car but the door was locked. Was this someone trying to avoid the smoke or was this the suspect trying to get into the next car? No one has discussed what this video means. As I just watched this video again, of someone trying to escape the smoke-filled car, I’m leaning toward this being the shooter trying to get into the next car to do more shooting. There is one person trying to get into the car; no one is following him. I think if it was a passenger trying to escape the smoke, people would be following him to the next car. |
