I've tried everything over the years from the priciest stuff to the cheapest stuff. Nothing works. Can anyone recommend a truly hypoallergenic eye makeup? I'm probably going to have to try off brands. Almay irritates the heck out of my eyes. So, I can't use anything standard. TIA.

I’ve developed an allergy to eye makeup - mostly eyeliner / mascara. I started using Marcelle brand. I can only use their “forever sharp” collection of liners. Something about the harder pencil type that I have to sharpen irritates the hell out of my eyelids. Itchy, rough, irritated for days after using it once. So I stick to the softer ones. So far so good!

I was so into makeup and hair before my first kid was born. Then I pretty much stopped wearing make up entirely. Now I can't see up close, so I don't wear it much. Also, it's been so long I am clueless with the new trends in makeup. But I wore makeup a few times last year and the mascara really irritated my contacts. I used to use clinique eye makeup and mascara years ago and never had any problms.

Could be a reaction to propolis (bee glue), which is found in many mascara and make-up products. I had a big reaction to Burt's Bee lip balm, looked like I had botox injected. I've been using Maybelline, Snapscara (synthetic) without any reactions. www.news-medical.net/news/20200228/Study-finds-significant-increase-in-skin-allergy-to-bee-glue.aspxStudy finds significant increase in skin allergy to 'bee glue' Feb 28 2020 Skin allergy to an ingredient found in many natural skin products has more than doubled since 2007, according to a study in the British Journal of Dermatology. The analysis of 125,436 people tested for skin allergy between 2007 and 2018 across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, found a significant rise in allergy to propolis, also known as ‘bee glue’.

I get eczema on my eyelids when I see any eye shadow, and I've searched far and wide for some that I can wear. The only brand I have found that I can tolerate is from Rejuva minerals. It has no mica in it, so it definitely isn't the pretty shimmery makeup you see everyone wearing these days. But it works for me!

Interesting. Propolis is actually known for being good for calming rosacea (it’s definitely helped me).

Thrive cosmetics (online) advertises that their products allergy free. I keep looking and thinking maybe I will try to order a few things to try it out.
Certain foundations are irritating if they go anywhere near my lower or upper eyelids. Same with facial cream or under eye cream.

Is it really propolis (minute percentage) or other ingredients in your treatment? Could you share your treatment ingredients?

I develop eczema on my eyelids if I wear anything with bismuth oxychloride in it. I don't tend to be an allergic or sensitive skin person, so this was a surprise. It seems that for many people like me, you can often wear it if it's just dusted on like a light eyeshadow, but if it's in a primer that's rubbed into the skin or a heavy coating of eyeshadow, it can really mess you up. To avoid that particular chemical, I have to look at each eyeshadow or whatever - for example, the regular Urban Decay Potion Primer has it in there, but a couple of the colors don't. It's easy to avoid as long as I remember to check the ingredients.
What is your particular problem? And is there a particular type of makeup that seems to cause it? (Mascara, eyeshadow...?) We may be able to help better if you can give us more specifics.

I have eczema, too, but mine is in other areas. I also have rosacea, but it's not too bad. I looked at thrive and am interested. I'm allergic to eye liners, shadows and mascara. It doesn't matter which one, I'll be uncomfy for a few days after wearing any of it.

scrapmaven have you tried any products from Origins yet? My moms eyes are extremely sensitive and she has severe allergies. Origins mascara is the only one she’s found that doesn’t set her off. She also uses their tinted CC cream as a foundation.

My DD has very sensitive eyes in general, and she can wear Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara and L'Oreal Bambi Eyes mascara. Eyeliner doesn't seem to cause her a problem unless her eyes are already irritated. Eyeshadows are very hit or miss, but she seems to have the best luck with ELF and with Too Faced for that, also.

Mary Kay has worked out pretty well for me. If it doesn't work, they will take it back. I had a horrible reaction to Lancome and my dermatologist said some of these companies change and ingredient or two and won't let consumers know obviously.

Thank you so much for the great suggestions. I'm making a list. Too bad so many of us are sensitive.

Does the liner stay put or does it smear easily as I find a lot of soft pencils do?

Propolis and beeswax - natural or synthetic - are different substances. , somewhat, but there will be bee glue in natural or synthetic beeswax products and products will not be marked as propolis. Cera alba is a product that contains propolis, but propolis may not be listed as an ingredient, for an example.
