I know we've had tons of threads about masks but I need to find ones that will be comfortable for a transatlantic flight. It's the only thing I'm dreading about our trip. The masks we have are fine for a quick trip to the doctor or someplace where a mask is still required. But I need one that I can breath in and not have my glasses all foggy when I'm trying to read for 8 hours. Whatcha got?

Have you tried the Korean kn94 masks? The sit a little bit away from your face. I bought some adhesive-backed metal pieces that you can press the to of the mask closer to your face. It’s the escaping breath that causes the fogging. Reduce that and it helps.

I had a nice comfy four layer mask with me on a transatlantic flight a couple of weeks ago, and Lufthansa (I think it was them) didn't like it and made me wear one of theirs. The one they gave me didn't feel bad or anything, I just wanted to let you know that was a posibility.

I wear a plastic shield thing under my mask if I have to wear it for a long time. It keeps it lifted off my skin and is more comfortable. For glasses fogging I have an anti fog cloth that I rub over my glasses that stops the fogging. My eye Drs office sells a spray that does the same thing.

Returning from Kenya last summer, I had to wear a mask for almost 48 continuous hours. At that time, they were required in a car, as well as all the airports, and supre long flights. With the plastic thingy, i did not attach it directly to the mask. That way i could move it around and let it sit on different parts of my face. Which. I know sounds like it makes no sense, but after that many hours it was nice to be able to shift it around. Also, that helps find a place that does not feel like you are smothering to death while trying to sleep. The only drawback-I had terrible breakouts on my face afterwards. Still worth it though.

I also wear glasses. For my flights to the east coast and back I’ve been wearing KN95s (which is what I wear anyhow). If your glasses are fogging up, you’re not getting a tight seal and need to either find one that fits your face better or tighten the one you have up. Once you get the nose wire “just so” it shouldn’t be a problem. I absolutely cannot wear a mask without a good nose wire.

The KN 94 mask are required in Germany and we wear them (in Belgiam) as well. Our surge over Christmas was quite high and Germany just continued to go up. Since our cases are still hovering around where they were pre-Christmas, we decided to wear something more robust than the flimsy blue masks.
I’ve bought mine at the commissary, Belgian pharmacies, German pharmacies, French pharmacies, the grocery store, etc. Really, they are all about the same. I do find that moisture collects in them and if you are outside in the cold, water will drip down your face. Ick, but the alternative is to stay home.
DH was in a conference last week and they were spread 6’ apart around a big conference table. He still got Covid from a co-worker. They weren’t masked and he keeps saying, “I followed all the rules.” Covid still found him.

We only wear KF94 masks in our house now. I wear them all day while teaching elementary school and have my reading glasses on and off all day. They don’t fog my glasses because the metal piece in them allows you to get a close fit to the bridge of your nose. I just wore them flying to Hawaii and back from the East Coast - 11 hours one way, 10 hours the other way - and I had no issues reading. We buy them at our local Asian grocery store or order these in white and black: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08N67J6J4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

Whatever you buy get yourself an ear saver. I found the worst part of flying all day and wearing a mask in the airport was eventually the elastic hurt the back of my ears. I have been wearing masks at work and shopping but never for an extended period of time. I did not realize how much they would rub on my ears. You can get some made on a 3D printer or crochet/sew/knit some with buttons on them to hook the ear elastics onto.

I fly twice a week, have glasses, and wear KN95 masks. I do use a defogging spray on my glasses about once a week.

It’s the escaping breath that causes the fogging. Reduce that and it helps. This is what we used on our month long trip last year; trains, planes and automobiles...they didn't fog and were easy to breathe. The only time they failed us was when we were going inside/outside a lot...they held moisture and got wet, so we had to bring a bunch and change frequently.

You have to press the wires onto your nose tightly enough - I have to do it until it almost hurts, though that’s only when tightening it, after that it’s fine. Either legit KN95s from Korea or K95s. If someone hasn’t or doesn’t link you to a good company that sells them, I’ll find the one I like whose name escapes me when I get back home in a couple of hours.

I would also suggest KN95 masks or even N95 masks. The problem is finding a source that sells legitimate products.
This is where we ordered from before our last trip that included a flight: shop.projectn95.org
They offer lots of different styles. I ordered the cup style N95 mask for myself in small, and DH and adult DS shared the KN95 masks (they prefer this style). My mask fit great except I maybe should have gotten a Medium instead because the elastic was super tight.
Although our flight was only 4 hours long, by the time I entered the airport, waited almost 3 hours to get through processing and onto the flight it added up to many more hours wearing the mask continuously.

I deal only with ArmbrustUSA.com . They are in TX and have rigorous testing. Recently they had their old style KN95s on sale and I picked up a bunch for my uncoming flights and vacations.
