I’ll be moving in one month. The thought of packing up my scrap and craft supplies is more daunting than the rest of the house. Any advice? I’ve got so many things in containers/bins. All my paper too. Not much would be considered “breakable”, but so much is bendable. I’ve had the luxury of built-in cabinets and shelving so things are stored on shelves as well. My stamps are in multiple frig bins, my papers are in plastic folders. Im overwhelmed. All advice and tips welcome!

Smaller boxes are great because so much of our scrap stuff is heavy!! I packed paper flat not vertical.
Anything that could leak (stickles, paints, etc) was sealed in ziploc bags, and not put with paper items.
You can do this!

Can you get some clear plastic tubs you can stack bins of similar products in? Pack them tight to avoid sliding around and support the sides of the tote.
For weight, distribute your paper and your tools between totes. Lay it flat on the bottom then other items on top.
Make a LIST of everything that goes into a box or tote. Make two copies, one for the box and one you can keep with you.

Go ahead and buy boxes. I bought the "small" size box from U-Haul and it perfectly holds 12x12 paper. It is "small" enough that the box, fully loaded, can be lifted. One move, I tried moving an Expedex with drawers still in and filled. Wrapped with shrink wrap. Didn't work. The Cropper Hopper CUBES (really older storage system) DID work okay with drawers kept in and shrink wrapped. But they are just one cube rather than a "rank" of cubes. Our scrap crap takes a lot more room than you'd ever expect!

I'm in the middle of packing for my move in, yikes, 2 weeks!
Because I am only moving 15 minutes away, DD and I will move all my Iris cases that are like drawers ourselves. We can just put them in the SUV, which I believe is easier than boxing them up, then unboxing.
I am packing my paper in 14x14 boxes. It is all in 12x12 envelopes or Iris cases or something similar. I am standing it up on either side of the box, then putting lighter weight things betweeen the paper. I am making sure everything is packed tight. Even though I have professional movers, I don't want the boxes too heavy. I will probably have to move some of them around at some point.
It is a lot of boxes! I am so, so, so excited to finally have a place big enough to hold all my supplies. I will no longer have to run down the basement for things.
I wrapped some small open containers with Press-n-Seal plastic wrap. I also put things in gallon Ziploc bags. Those items can go quickly back in drawers when I uppack.
Good luck with your move!

Packing and moving myself. Luckily we are just moving 20 minutes away and going to move over the next couple of weeks. I can take a car load at a time and make sure my things won't be damaged. I do have a few storage totes for some of my "lighter" things but since we are making multiple trips I plan to mostly use the bags/totes that I use to take my things to crops. I have helped a friend move several times (she was a stampin up demo). Smaller boxes are better for lifting and the same size boxes are better for stacking. We were able to use several copy paper cases for her 8 1/2x11 cardstock and stamp sets (she had lots of both). If you can fill every nook and cranny in a box so that items don't shift in moving. The only other thing I can say is label, label, label. Make sure each box is marked with it's contents.

When I moved, I bought boxes from Home Depot. I moved halfway across the country. If I were just moving across town, it wouldn’t have been such a major production. I packed my paper vertically, but so tight that there was no way it would bend. Looser sheets were added on top horizontally. Everything got put into a PackRat, when was stored and later shipped. It worked well for us.
Since I was not going to have my supplies for literally months, I also packed a crop bag to keep with me, with my own home version of kits. That allowed me to have something crafty when I didn’t have access to my stash.

I've only done DIY local moves with scrapbook supplies
If you can plan the set-up of the new room ahead of time, do so. Then purge as you pack and pack so things that will go together in the new room are together. Small boxes (scrap supplies are heavy). If you're doing a DIY local move - I moved my plastic drawers and Rocollections cubes as it. One thing I wish I had done was pack albums in order - it was a pain sorting them into order when I unpacked.

I started by purging anything I knew I wasn't going to use/didn't love any more. Press and seal was my BFF for all my inks and sprays. I have a bunch of smaller plastic containers that hold that stuff for me and using either zip lock bags over the containers or wrapping in the press and seal helped keep things contained. I used a ton of the smaller book size boxes. As everyone else mentioned, it's amazing how heavy things get. I also packed an "open first" box for my studio with things I knew I'd want right away like paper trimmer, current project(s), etc. I labeled every box with the general contents to help unpacking.
The worst was not realizing I wouldn't have my stuff for months and months. What I thought would be 3 months has turned into 7 and counting. I did pack a small stash of supplies, but I've had to purchase duplicates of things so that's been annoying. Hopefully you won't have that problem. Good luck with your move!

Everyone I've heard talk about moving scrap supplies has said that the unpacking took a lot longer than expected and they wished they had been more organized while packing so they could find what they needed a few months later when the boxes were still full. Don't put off starting for too long, you'll regret packing in a hurry at the last minute and the time will disappear so fast. I would have a donate box and a trash bag next to me at all times, and an idea of how much space will be available at the other end (especially if it's a smaller space).
I would also pack the stuff that's absolutely essential and most used into a crop bag or similar for immediate access, and then start packing the stuff you really love most but don't need access to right away. That way if (when) you run out of time or space you will be faced with the less valued stuff at the end and you can decide to be more ruthless about whether that deserves to be packed.
Good luck!

Purge with no holds barred. I moved twice in 7 years and move #2 was so much easier.

I agree with those who said to purge as much as possible. I have moved twice in the past seven years and purged both times. I don't miss a thing.
I also bought the small boxes from Home Depot/Lowe's. I didn't want to put any of my stuff, especially crafting items, in janky boxes. Since paper is heavy, you don't want to fill up a large box and not be able to move it. I think I had to get a medium box for a few oversized items.

We moved in October. I bought the 14 x 14 boxes from Home Depot for my paper. Very sturdy boxes. They could get pretty heavy when completely filled, so a smaller size would probably be better. For the rest of my crap, I got about 75 apple boxes from Safeway. They are amazing and sturdy and you can stack them pretty high.

The weight of scrapbooking supplies is tremendous so I always pack my paper pads spread out over many multiple boxes with things like fabrics and board game boxes so they arent as heavy to move. I also try to pack like products with like products so stamps with stamping stuff and sewing stuff together this way when I do unpack I have a pretty good idea where things are. That being said my room has always been the last room to unpack so its not a huge deal needing to find things. Purging is also a great idea however the last few times the purging was far more successful after the move when I was unpacking all the boxes. I think that might be because it can take me a few weeks and into months to have the time to really get stuck in and unpack, and after a break away from my stash and time not using or seeing it you reconsider your needs and wants.

I hadn't considered packing my scrapbook rolling tool case that I use for crops as if I am going to a crop. That's a great idea. I'm going to do it! Then I can craft a little without everything being unpacked.

Thanks everyone! I’ve ordered small boxes and started the task. Starting was half the battle!

Thanks everyone! I’ve ordered small boxes and started the task. Starting was half the battle! I wish you the best of luck! Moved twice last year and do not recommend.😝 I packed my things with no rhyme or reason and am still trying to figure things out five months later. If you have the time and energy, I recommend purging as you pack. I wish I had done that.

Take it from someone who moved last summer and is still trying to get things organized: purge and donate as much as you can. I have so much to get rid of now, and I’m overwhelmed by it all.
Wishing you the best and no moving casualties! 🤞🤞
