Happy Anniversary. That's a milestone.
My longest job was as a sahm. Before that I was very unhappy in my career and knew I didn't want to wake up every day dreading going to work. The career I really wanted would have meant furthering my education and I regret not doing so at the time.

I've been self employed since 1985, doing the same line of work. So 37 years.

I was at the same employer for 35.5 years before I retired in 2019. Within that timeframe, I held 9 different positions.

Been with the same company for 25 years. However, have had at least six positions in two different locations (different states) during those 25 years. The lastest position has been my longest one going on 11 years.
I tell people it's the longest relationship of my life except my mother and sisters.
However, I don't know if I'll retire from here. That would mean another 11 years minimum here and I just don't know that I can do it. It's not the same company as when I started 25 years ago.

I have been at this job, same position, same company for 37 yrs. I came here straight out of college, thinking it would be a good learning start for me, and here I still am. 5-7 more yrs, and then I can retire. Yikes.

I was at my previous company 29 years. At 28 years the company was sold and 1 year later, my job was eliminated on my 29th year anniversary, with no notice. So now I’m looking for the next chapter.

I’ll be the outlier and say I’ve never stayed at one company for more than 3.5 years at a time (which is my typical length).
In my defense I’ve always worked in SF or Silicon Valley where the culture is to move around (and move up). When I first started out I worked for a massive global consulting company then left to work for my client. And right now I boomeranged back to my current company so if you add the years up it’s almost 6 lol. I think I’ll be staying here for a while too - it’s an awesome company.
Eta - I was sahm for 10 years….

I was with AmEx for 20 years…they were my first employer after college. I left when they sold my division, but went with the division to the new company.

On some level it was a relief, as on the inside, it is actually a pretty sh!tty company. I only continued to stay on after the sale to support my staff that conveyed. They were so sad, as they were not informed of my status and I was directed not to reach out. The commitments made by the company during the sale and the transition were all lies.

My current employer and my current city are the longest I’ve worked or lived somewhere. I’ll hit 16 years at work on Monday and 17 years in my city in July.

I taught 31 years. 28 of those years were in the same building. In our state, teachers retire by age, not by years of service (to a point), so those of us who started at the ripe old age of 22 have to work a lot of years to get full retirement! I didn't quite make it, but I'm still working full time.
I've been at not current job (education related, but not classroom teaching) for less than a year.

The longest I’ve ever been at one school is five years. But I’ve been with this school district for 12 years now.

Current job is 22 years. I am usually a job stayer, all of my jobs have been for long durations and the only reason for leaving was because life changed and I moved away.
-I had the same job all through high school, quit because I went away to college (3 years) -after college, same job until I got married (3 years) -after married, same job until we were relocated to Iceland (7 years) -job in Iceland until we moved stateside (2 years) -first job stateside, full to part time (10 years) -current job (22 years) - this one was always full time and I worked the part time job at the same time.
More info than what any one wanted, but here you go!

i had been with my old employer for 14 years. but i had had 5 different positions in that 14 years (and 2 mat leaves, each at least a year).
since my ex and i split i had 8 jobs in just over 3 years. it was so demoralizing. some i quit, some ended and 1 i got fired from. i have now settled back into my old industry (direct competitor of my 14 year job) and it although it took some time AND drives me nuts, i am back where i am meant to be.

I started late. It was just my birthday and I am 68 years old. I work for State Government and I will have 28 years this October. I could retire but if I hang in there for my 3 years, if means $200 more a month. Since they are getting a new system and I am the only one who does what I do, I promised them I would stay until the system was bug free and my job disappeared or I trained someone to take my place. In exchange they committed that I will get my 30 years in. So I will retire when I am 70.5 years old.

As of last week, I've been here 45 years. Got a bonus, which was unexpected. Only thing is, as I do Payroll, I had to make the check myself:)

I have been with my current company for almost 23 years. It has been a wonderful company to work for, lots of longevity amongst the employees. But in the past couple years, there has been a definite shift. Some of it can be attributed to the pandemic, but not all. It saddens me that I am looking outside of this company. Sorry, I digress!

I worked at my hospital for 31 years, 1987-2018. I then retired. I was in the same unit (CVICU) for 30 years. I still dream about my unit and the people I worked with.

KelleeM Congrats on 25 years! I'm heading toward 5 years at my current position. Held my SAHM job for 24 years prior to this one - no 401k, but lots of other great benefits!

Next month will be 28 years with the same employer doing pretty much the same job. Six more years until I can get Medicare and retire. I’m so done with this place but anywhere else is just as much of a shit show, only with less money.

Mine was about 7 years and I loved it and wished I could still do it. But my numbers are skewed because I pretty much stopped working after I left that job in my early 30s, and have only had 3 very short term positions since then.
