I was watching Victoria Marie’s SCT mini class video, and now she has started singing in her videos - actual songs but also sing-songy when she’s talking (“layering is my 🎵ja-a-am!🎵”), similar to Vicki Boutin and even Shimelle. I generally really like watching Victoria because she seems really fun (even though I don’t like her LOs as much as I used to because she sort of rushes through and they are really simple now), but I can’t even with all the singing YouTube scrappers are now doing. I seriously cringe when they do it, even the scrappers I love. I hope this trend stops soon or there will no one left for me to enjoyably watch. Am I the only one annoyed by this?

I'm in the minority who cannot stand the parody song videos by Laura Wonsik so you get my support on this matter. Just no, don't. Keep the singing to TikTok, please.

this is why i watch video on mute most of the time. either the sound quality is bad or the narration is bad.

I am not a fan of the sing-songy talking either. For me, I hear it as baby talk. Now I don't mind a bad joke now and then, but just no to the singing and baby talk.

I'm with you. I want them to be themselves, but I also want to be inspired and learn. Not be annoyed.

For me, I don't mind a little bit, I read it as excited to scrap/be doing the video. (aka Shimelle) What I truly cannot stand is a bored scrapping youtuber. I can't remember who it was but I watched a process video and it just seemed like they would rather be anywhere else.
However if someone was actually sing-songing for more than a couple seconds, or being repetitive I would need to shut them off.

Say what you want about Jennifer McGuire but she does a good voiceover. There is nothing cutesy about them, they just get the job done. I so much prefer voiceovers in general as opposed to listening to the crafter talk in real time. I don't need to hear them try to fill the silence.

I solemnly swear to never sing in a video.....lol
That's a no go for me as a viewer too. I follow music people on YT when I want to be serenaded.

I can't stand the singing either, or the "boop," "errt," or other sound effects. Or music while they're speaking. Nothing makes me turn a video off faster.
I can't remember who it is, but there's someone I've watched who sounds so irritated that she's doing a video that I wonder why she does them. She sighs before every sentence.

I'm always so curious about who the peas are talking about when youtubers are mentioned here. I guess I must be missing those videos. I want to know who the sighing youtuber is.

I have no problem with Shimelle's musical theater singing - that's just part of her personality - and even though I'm not always in the mood for it, I don't mind. And she refrains from that kind of thing on recorded/edited videos. To me that's the difference between what she calls "random rubbish" and her professional class content. But I do fast-forward through the sing-songy shoutouts of the people in the live chat at the beginning "who's here... we have someone and someone and someone and ..." For some reason that really annoys me. Actually it annoys me even without the sing-songy voice, whoever does it. I watch the replay so I can skip over that stuff. (I get why live streamers do it, not saying they shouldn't, but I find it really tiresome).
Live-streamed videos seem to be a test of how much you click with someone. I can't watch most people do a live video. I need those edits and a purposeful voice-over (Jennifer McGuire is excellent in that regard). Editing is hard work but 80% of the videos I watch would not be tolerable without it.

It’s not quite as annoying when *she* does it in her lives. I 100% agree on the recitation of attendees at the beginning being completely annoying, no matter what type of voice is used. And some people spend 5-10 minutes on it! I get it for a random live, but some people do it in paid content too, and that’s really irritating. I didn’t pay to spend 10 minutes of you saying hi to everyone - get to the project! (VM did that during the SCT event too 🙄)

Speaking of annoying/distracting YouTuber's habits:
Sincere question:
Is there a minimum length a YouTubers video needs to be to be 'monetized'?
I ask because the other night, I couldn't sleep and stumbled on a video where the gal was going to show how to cut 12 x 12 scrapbook paper to make your own ephemera. And that she did. It was a 16 min video. After the finger waving and tapping, she proceeded to use her little paper trimmer to cut 12 x 12 paper into small pieces. For 12 minutes. Just cutting and talking about what a great idea it was and how easy it was, etc. etc. etc. Finally at the 12 minute mark, she started using the little pieces to make ephemera. Then at 16 min she was done. Twelve minutes of, well nothing. Four minutes of a demo. Is this a new thing? Did she need a certain length to make money from the video? It was NOT labeled as ASMR, besides, she talked to herself the whole time. Gah. Next time I just need to go to bed. LOL

Monetization is based on sub counts and watch time for a set time period. We can make a video as short or long as we want and monetize it. We also have ability to say no to mid roll ads or add a million of them.

I've heard that videos under 15mins are generally recommended but not that 5 min videos are penalized (these days with them trying to do Shorts I would think the opposite). My guess is that she didn't know how to or want to take the time to edit the video. I've seen that on newer channels a lot. Fastforwarding through the boring bits with a voice-over (my preference) or a bit of music does require a little more skill and time than turning your camera on and filming what you're doing.

I always see these and cringe and wonder if I’ve ever done one of these once in the moment and that will turn people off from me forever. 😬
I know everyone is different. Some people really prefer relaxed, long form, chatty videos. Others want everything to the point. I tend to be the latter but am also always learning so I’ve tried all kinds of different things. 😅
I am never going to be close to monetizing. I just honestly enjoy making them and playing around with creating videos, and I figure I’ll just do me and other people will do them, and then there’s something out there for everyone. (Insert singing kumbaya joke here? 😂)

I have been wondering about that because if the channel gets something out of it, I am willing to let the ad run for some of my favorites. Thanks.

Its based on watching the ads, even if you click skip ad after the 5 seconds it still goes towards the revenue.

Sometimes I'll watch a video on mute but turn on closed captioning (if it's available). The CC isn't always the greatest, but I get the gist and am less likely to stop the video because of extraneous sound effects.
