I see that several girls use ATG gun. I'm hesitant trying it as I'm used to the small size and light weight of a traditional tape runner. That said, when I do some techniques (for example the herringbone pattern in the "Crushing on Cardstock" class), I can go through an entire refill in no time flat. Using glue for that technique really isn't an option.
I started cardmaking almost 3 months ago. Hadn't papercrafted since I gave up scrapbooking in about 2006. So far I've tried Tombo, and SSS (on sale). What do you use?

I go through a lot of tape runners but can't stand the idea of a giant gun (because of space, ergonomics, and I prefer the dot style not the tape).
I use the Tombow pink, the dot adhesive runner, which I believe is very similar to Shimelle's favorite Kokuyo. She's testing out a few scrapbook.cot equivalents that might work out to be cheaper but no verdict yet, I don't think. They're also promoting them so they're free with purchase here and there, might be worth a try if you can get them on sale/free to try.
I have recently switched to Bearly Arts glue to save money. I switch back to my tape runner here and there if I need to be able to change my mind but I'm trying to reach for the liquid glue as my first choice, especially for donation cards.
I occasionally use Scor Tape (Sookwang or the scrapbk dot com equivalents) in a few sizes, but that's very unforgiving so you better be sure you put things down where you want them, and I have tried some adhesive sheets with varying degrees of mess and failure.

My go to is the Tombow Mono Dots Adheisive. The pink one. I use the green Removable (repositionable) version, too. My second choice is the Kokuyo tape runner (long). It's inexpensive on Amazon. But either they changed formulas or I got a bad batch, because my cards came apart. (I found out when I went to my mom's and she had cellophane taped her card back together) (Ack! the horror!)
For liquid glue I use the Bearly Art glue for most things, but have GinaK and Lawn Fawn tubes.
I do not like the Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue. If you put it on your item (say a stencil) and let it dry, it becomes repositionable. So it's helpful for stencils, but I just can't keep it off me and my fingers get sticky!.
ETA: I loved my ATG for scrapbooking, but gave up on it due to size and for whatever reason the tape kept sticking to itself and it was too frustrating to use. It went in the donate pile.

Thank you! Using those sticky papers would probably work for the herringbone.

ATG all the way. I also use scor-tape in 1/4 and 1/8 when I need a thinner width.

I like dot runners and use a retired Tombow pink one that looks like a Pez dispenser along with a massive number of refills purchased when I heard that they no longer were being made. possibly because the refills were tricky to insert for some people and that caused complaints. The width fits my hand (old minor injury). Many others are too narrow.
If I didnāt have them Iād go for Kokuyo - the larger of the two, not that either is large.
I love Scor-tape for heavy duty sticking like for boxes or books or other 3D projects, but donāt use it for cards. I have all the widths on that holder Scor-pal manufactured. I like buying from them: small, family owned business.

I prefer a tape runner but they are so expensive and go so fast that I just don't bother with them most of the time anymore. I've started purchasing the Cherry on Top brand of 2 sided tape rolls and I really like them. They are inexpensive, seem to last forever, and seem to work well. Like others have said though, once it's stuck, it's stuck! There is no fixing or rearranging! It's either in the right place, or it's ruined! LOL! If I do want to use a runner though, I have either the scrapbook.com brand, or I use the cheap AdTech brand. I think that's the kind. I get it at Hobby Lobby or JoAnn usually. Tombow disappoints me. It seems like it doesn't last. I have older stuff that is falling apart now. So, I just don't use it anymore.

I use Scor-tape and glue. When I buy tape runners I get a bunch for cheap. I just bought 12 tape runners for $25. I was introduced to Bearly glue at a make n take at Scrapbook Expo. They had run out at the Expo and said I could order it online, they were out of it too. I decided to just take the Queen and her rollator for 3 hours of shopping. It was a long day for us, but I'm glad we went.

Thank you! Using those sticky papers would probably work for the herringbone. Agree double sided adhesive sheets can be great. Lots of brands out there, including Scor-tape (get on their mailing list for rare discounts), plus I have a 4ā roll and sheets like Stick-It, which are extremely thin so donāt add bulk, Elizabeth Craft, etc. Somehow I ended up with a variety. But when Iām making strip or mosaic type cards, I want adhesive that will allow me to reposition the CS when I mess up, so like the dot runners that until you press down can be moved, or less often, liquid adhesive, which gives more wiggle time. My go-to is Ranger Multi Matte Medium and second place is Bearly Arts. Once in a while Gina K.

For double sided adhesive a few years ago I purchased 2 of these 4" wide rolls when they were like 50% off. I still have one unopened roll and probably have only used about 5% of the other so pretty much 2 full rolls. I love it. I use it in the same way Jennifer McGuire uses her Altenew sheets. It's on sale for ~43% off right now. www.scrapbook.com/store/uc-adh-2705.html?w=double+sided+adhesive+roll

Thank you all for your replies, much appreciated. Now I've got options And pinklady , thank you for posting the double-sided tape. I bought it in a 6" width back in February-ish, when I first started making cards. It was so crazy sticky that I set it aside till I had some time to learn how to handle it. Well, it ended up in the back of a drawer, completely forgotten. I pulled it out just now, so it's on my to do list. Sure wish I had purchased the 4" width though. This was back before i really knew what i was doing (not that I do now either). Lesson learned.

Sometimes adding liquid glue on the paper you are glueing down gives you some wiggle room. I know its not really a time saver , but sometimes really useful, I do this when I make shaker cards ( if I don't forget it š)

If it was sticking it down, Natasha Foote has a nice method that she shows in some of her videos. Hereās one - fast forward to 8:25 to watch. youtu.be/ZY7rQ1F6epk

So it's helpful for stencils, but I just can't keep it off me and my fingers get sticky!. The first YT cardmaker I followed used (and still uses) the little green Tombow mono multi glue so I followed along and ugh, every card ended up tacky because all the little squidges where the glue escapes the back of the die cut/layer dries into a 2 way repositionable glue. It took me a long time to figure out why my cards were sticking together or sticking in the envelope or picking up dirt... ugh. I was so annoyed when I realized. I will tell everyone who ever asks about glue to only buy this stuff if they are planning to turn unmounted stamps into cling stamps or some other legit use for 2 way glue. It still really annoys me that this slightly-famous YT card maker is still telling beginners to use that glue.

As I use it more, Iām liking Bearly Arts more. But if I had to pick one it still would probably be Ranger Multi Medium Matte - the liquid, not in the jar. I love that if a tiny bit squishes out from a die cut, itās basically invisible since itās so clear and matte. And the hold is outstanding. Switching their top to one that I can keep from clogging, and putting it upside down in one of the Marcoās holders when Iām working with it makes it even easier to use. But adhesive surely isnāt a one size fits all. I feel a kind of loyalty to the U.S. maker of Scor-Tape, since itās a small family business, so donāt go to AliExpress for tear tape. Scor-tape tears easily.

I use Skor tape and Distress Collage medium together and separately. I also like to die cut with Stick it by Ken Oliver. It doesn't stick until you rub it down. I use my MS scoreboard to line up the base and card panel. Skor tape sticks very well but I will put a little Distress Collage medium on the tape so that I have a little wiggle room and then put the card under two heavy books. I don't like tape runners as I feel they don't hold card fronts and bases together. I've received a lot of cards from people and the cards are coming apart. Glue and adhesive is a personal decision! Also products change over time and something new and improved will come out that everyone will like it. Use what works best for your makes!

Not much help but I love bearly art itās super strong but you can reposition until stuck. I love the uline double sided tape for 3D projects. I add hue to the tape to make it repositionable while using it. I love scrapbook adhesives small, regular and lined foam. Those are my go to adhesives.

Since this has been bumped up, after posting this I tried a couple more tape runners/dot runners and have found that I much prefer dots over tape. It's just so much cleaner (for me) to use. I tried the BIG Kokuyo (10mm x a ton of meters) and liked it enough to order one of the smaller (8.4mm width) size just the other day to see which width I prefer.
