Our older son was going to walk at graduation tomorrow night (BS in computer science from Chico State) but our younger son tested positive for Covid this morning. My husband and I and our son are negative so far but we don't want to expose a large group or any of his grandparents to the possibility of Covid, so we canceled the whole trip. This is most likely my only child to get a college degree so I am a bit sad right now. And my younger son is getting pretty sick and I really hope he doesn't get worse.
That is all, thanks for listening.

Will the school by chance live stream it at least? I know it’s not the same but it might be something.

Oh, no. That really sucks. I am sorry you won't get see him walk. Will he get to attend graduation? Can you make a big deal about it after everyone is healthy?

I am sorry! Is your son still going to walk for graduation, or is he at home with you? If he still walks, can you watch him online if they are streaming it?

That must be so disappointing for you all. Hoping they might live stream it - not quite the same but better than nothing.

I’m so sorry. I would be so bummed if I were in your shoes. My son graduated from law school two years’ ago and his graduation, like so many others that year, was cancelled. I agreed with the decision, but I was really sad.
Can you ask any of your son’s friend’s parents to take pictures for you? If not, ask your son to have his friends take pictures for you.
I’m sorry you are missing the graduation. I hope your other son feels better soon and that you don’t get it.

That sucks!! I know the kids are older but can you plan a night away with a pool or something when everyone is healthy? That would be way more fun than sitting through a graduation! (But truly, I'd be bummed too!!)

If I’m reading this right, and a really hope I am, your older son is not going to walk at graduation so he doesn’t expose anyone either, correct?

That sucks the big one. Congratulations to your older son. What a wonderful accomplishment and I know you all wanted to celebrate him! I hope your younger son doesn't get worse off and the rest of you are spared.

The whole we Covid situation has resulted in the loss of so many one-of-a-kind events for people. It’s okay to feel sad and frustrated about losing out on that kind of experience. I validate your vent about it.

I understand your sadness.
However, if your experience is similar to ours, it's best if you all stay home.
I got Covid at Christmas time. (Double vaxxed). I was pretty sick. My bf is double vaxxed and has one booster. However, he still got a positive from a testing center. He did not get very sick that time.
Then, he just had it this past week again and he was the one that got pretty sick. I got a positive from a testing center but only have a very mild sore throat.

It really sucks. We missed both son's graduations last year due to COVID and we decided to just livestream ods's graduation this Saturday, because it's too risky. COVID is rampant in my area.
My advice, not that you asked is to make a big deal out of it when your youngest son is bettter. Have that party and celebrate your son's accomplishments. Is Chico live streaming graduation? My son's grad school is livestreaming.

There are no pictures to take because no one is going at all. We were going to share a large, expensive AirBnB with our parents (all 4 of his grandparents) for over 24 hours and since they are all in their late 70s/early 80s, we'd rather not expose them at all. And his older sister backed out, so none of his siblings could come anyway. He was never very excited about it and he knew we really wanted to see him walk. Ah well. We will have a party for him later on this summer at home.
I have to look on the bright side - he finished in December and has now found a great 6 figure job and he graduated with no debt. In the long run, that is what is important.
My younger son is feeling pretty good this morning, minor symptoms but hungry and in good spirits.

Since we're going to miss the in person graduation we asked ods to bring his cap, gown and accessories home, so that we can take photos in the backyard. It's a thought.

My husband graduated from Chico State with a BS in computer science. We actually met there (36 years ago).

Yeah he doesn't even a cap and gown. He graduated in December so he ordered/rented them to be mailed to us. There was a back up at the company so he was going to leave early this morning to go pick them up. Hopefully we can get a refund since they never delivered and he will never use. I'd like to figured out a way to get him a tassel for he dept and year.
