I have a half sheet of this paper and not sure if/how to use it.

I might be missing something, but for whatever reason it drives me bonkers when someone asks a question on here and it has like 60 views and no replies lol..it reminds me of when a teacher asks the class a question and all the students look at the teacher blankly, and...crickets. So, a couple things. What are we looking at matching? Also what on earth are the little people on the other pad of paper? (I literally did not see that is was a photo!) Or am I looking at the photo wrong? For the large sheet, I might use it for matting, where you can see the rainbow peeking out, or cut strips where you can see all the colors and layer strips behind photos on a white or other color plain paper. It's pretty!

Thank you. I tend to overthink my paper choices and been in a bit of a scrappy slump lately. The 1/2 sheet of paper is Dear Lizzie Here & Now and the other is a photo of my daughter and her friend doing handstands on a striped wall. You may have to tilt you head to the right for it to make sense. I understand about matting it, but just want to make sure I'm not cutting it apart before I know what direction I'm headed. But I'll play without scissors first.

I think its ok to use the rainbow striped paper. I remember a project were we used a solid white background for the layout, then matted the photo in one of the solid colors to match the rainbow paper. Then cut the rainbow paper apart by color (a blue strip, yellow, red, etc.), trim or tear the strips to varying lengths and glue the strips on the white paper in rainbow order. Add a header strip with a title and embellishments and put the matted photo over the colored paper strips.

finaledition, that makes so much more sense! I didn't realize the paper to the left was a photo. That's a great one! I think they would look awesome together and not too matchy matchy at all. I love echo-ing photo elements with background paper.

I would use then together. Maybe use a solid cardstock, then the stripe PP with stripes running vertical, then mat the photo with white cardstock.

Fun photo! Assuming you scrap 12x12 & your scrap of patterned paper is 12" wide (with vertical stripes), I'd use a 1-2" strip at both the top & bottom (as a header & footer) of a white cardstock base/background (ETA: similar to the layout shown here at 7:32-7:43). HTH.

I love the photo and the paper. I too would use the striped paper sparingly. It is too much for me together. But as an accent strip it could totally work and pull the layout together.

I don't think it's too matchy at all...I feel like this paper was made for this photo!

I love that paper, and the photo is such a fun photo! The paper is perfectly matchy-matchy, and it would be a crime NOT to use it haha! I don't have anything different to add, just the same as what others have already mentioned. I would use the paper as a strip at the top and/or bottom of the page.
Another way I would use it would be to triple-mat the photo - first mat would be white or one of the stripe colours, then the next mat would be the striped paper, then the third mat another colour, and slightly off-set the mats so that the stripes are showing more on one or two sides, and thinner on the others.
Or instead of matting the photo with it, use a block of the striped paper under the photo. I would make sure to keep a solid colour between the photo and the striped paper though, either a mat or another block.
I hope you'll share the page when you've done it!

Thanks everybody. I thought I'd start playing tonight, but have to do some carpooling, but planning to pull out some other goodies so I can get to it tomorrow. I'm not sure what layout I used the other half for, but when I was rummaging through my stash and found it, I was thinking I could probably not do much better than it, but then I started second guessing it because they are so close. Anyway-I'll try and update this post with the finished layout this week.

I just have too many years of asking a classroom of kids a question and having 30 pairs of eyes staring back at me and no one talking...sorry if it came off different than how I meant it.

That paper looks like it was MADE to scrap that photo! I would mat the photo in white— a wide mat. Then I would place the mat on the paper. I think the stripes on the pp should be at right angles to the ones on the wall.

I love it and would use it. I might put some foam or a few sheets of paper behind the photo to make sure it pops. What a fun photo!

So I’d use the entire paper as a background. I’d mat the large stripe in white or another solid color. Then triple mat the photo a thin white then larger colors and maybe another thin white (for a fourth mat). I’d also probably enlarge the photo and find some fun more solid embellishments for the page and large sold color lettering for the title.

I totally agree with everyone who said that this paper is made for this photo. I think it will be perfect on the layout...it's too perfect not to use! I think it would be perfect to cut strips of the paper so you see all the colours...maybe run the strips along the top/bottom or sides? Also, that is a spectacular photo--so much fun!

It looks perfect for this picture. I think I would cut the paper into about 5" strips and cut out the white stripes. I'd probably do something similar to this recent Allison Davis layout. Just enough to get the feel of the colors and stripes but not enough to overpower the cute picture. I probably wouldn't do the scallops. Just plain strips.

Definitely a great match! No other suggestions from me, some really good ones to choose from. Love when the perfect paper shows up!

My first thought was using it as an accent strip either down the side of the page or across the bottom. White background or white mat for the photo to make it stand out.
I think you should use it if you can make it work, but if you find yourself trying too hard to make it work, remember that you don’t have to use it! I sometimes get so stuck on how to use a pattern or color and finally realize I want to do something completely different! That’s ok too!
I do love that paper with that picture though.

I think I'd use the top of the paper as background and mat the photo with a bright yellow like on the lower part of the paper. Or use the bottom part and mat w/blue. May have to crop the photo a bit.

I would use the striped paper for accent pieces (tags, borders, etc.) and use colored card stock in colors from the stripes for background and/or photo mat. But I think the striped paper could look great if used right.
