A bit more.. Missing messages: Many of the United States Secret Service’s text messages sent on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, 2021, were deleted after a Department of Homeland Security watchdog asked for them, the DHS inspector general informed Congress through a letter dated Wednesday and obtained by POLITICO. The department said the messages were lost as part of a “device-replacement” program, according to the watchdog. Responses: A spokesperson for the House Homeland Security Committee confirmed the panel had received the letter from Inspector General Joseph Cuffari and would be briefed on it. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee also received the letter. Anthony Guglielmi, a Secret Service spokesperson, said in a tweet the agency took “strong issue with these categorically false claims” addressed in the letter and would respond more soon. www.politico.com/minutes/congress/07-14-2022/secret-service-texts-missing/

Hummm.... Agencies, especially those involved in national security, often use the sensitivity of their work to sidestep oversight, stymying the work of offices of inspectors general. It is not uncommon for inspectors general, particularly effective ones, to face institutional resistance during the course of investigations. Tasked with rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse, inspectors general are not always welcomed.Protection official provided The Intercept with a document illustrating the challenges. A briefing memo produced by the agency for a leadership meeting with the DHS Office of Inspector General on July 7 instructs participants on how to push back against what it calls the inspector general’s “persistent” request for “direct, unfettered access to CBP systems,” as part of its high number of OIG audits covering a variety of CBP program areas.” In a section titled “Watch Out For/ If Asked,” the memo describes a number of exemptions Customs and Border Protection can rely on to evade records requests from the inspector general’s office — including national security exemptions. theintercept.com/2022/07/14/jan-6-texts-deleted-secret-service/

Carol Leonnig was just on MSNBC with Madho Hassan talking about the USSS text/phone issue.
A year or two before Jan 2021 USSS had decided to replace their phone system and assorted other equipment to improve communication for employees to be able to talk to each other etc . Yes, they are supposed to download their phone regularly because it is government business.
Anyway by the end of January when the OIG requested the texts etc, about a third of the phones had been changed over to the new system. And of course many of the phones were not downloaded.. the numbers can be found in invoices etc but not the content of texts..
THIS may be the answer..

MSNBC Lawrence O'Donnell is now saying the erasure of the texts was deliberate... He is saying that those texts are/could be the most important messages in our country's history!!
That could fit with the above noted meeting,..
Keep remembering Cassidy Hutchinson naming Tong Ornato..

More questions .... CBP we're just blocks away .. The House select committee hearings have renewed questions about the security response to the Jan. 6 insurrection. Whether you're talking about Capitol police, other parts of DHS," said NBC News reporter Julia Ainsley. "We reported here that CBP, Customs and Border Protection, were actually uniformed and armed, ready to go but kept waiting in the basement of the Reagan Building during the insurrection that was happening just blocks away.""A lot of questions about law enforcement response, Secret Service being pivotal, and the fact that they were responsible for the president's security that day, would have known his every detail, every movement and request, and also, of course, protecting the vice president as a mob was chanting that they wanted to hang him." "I can't even believe I'm saying that," she added. *** Secret Service agents were with Trump during the day of the uprising, and were also with vice president Mike Pence, who went into hiding at the Capitol after pro-Trump rioters called for him to be hanged. *** "The Secret Service notified DHS OIG of the loss of certain phones’ data, but confirmed to OIG that none of the texts it was seeking had been lost in the migration," he said. www.rawstory.com/customs-border-patrol-jan-6/

Dan Goldman former impeachment attorney against former.. greats suspicions, why ONLY Jan 5-6 texts are gone?!?! They claim that it was a phone migration system, but the only days of texts that were erased were January 5th and 6th?" he elaborated. "That seems very unlikely that that is due to the phone migration. Second, I would want to understand when this happened because what the letter says is that these text messages were requested by the IG as part of their investigation into January 6th and that after that request these texts were deleted." "Now that raises a lot of suspicions as well because you should freeze everything when a request is made by any lawful investigator," he added. "And then finally it raises a lot of questions as to whose texts were deleted. Was it Tony Ornato who was a Secret Service official who came on board as a political appointee as deputy chief of staff? So there are still many questions to answer, but it is very suspicious, especially because of the critical role that the secret service played on January 5th and January 6th stopping Donald Trump from going to the Capitol, scurrying Mike Pence out of the capitol when he was under serious threat. Many, many questions have to be directed at the Secret Service." youtu.be/KvIwsYKcctswww.rawstory.com/trump-secret-sdervice-texts/

So glad for Cassidy Hutchinson... Breaking news, a source telling CNN a Washington police officer who was in Trump's motorcade on Jan. 6 has corroborated details of the heated exchange Trump had with his Secret Service detail when he was told he could not go to the U.S. Capitol and he wanted to go," CNN's Erin Burnett reported. This development comes as a government watchdog reveals the Secret Service erased messages from the day of the insurrection — after investigators asked for them," Burnett added. www.rawstory.com/cassidy-hutchinson-secret-service/

Please don't blame the messenger if they change date and/or time.. The House Select Committee Investigating the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol is still hoping to interview the wife of a sitting Supreme Court Justice over her alleged role in Trump's unsuccessful coup attempt. The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol is planning to return to prime time on Thursday for what could be the finale of its summer hearing schedule: a session focused on former President Donald J. Trump’s 187 minutes of inaction as a mob of his supporters assaulted Congress," The New York Times reported Friday. "The hearing, scheduled for 8 p.m. July 21, is expected to give a detailed account of how Mr. Trump resisted multiple entreaties from staffers, lawyers and even his own family to call off the attack, which raged for hours in the early afternoon of Jan. 6, 2021."www.rawstory.com/ginni-thomas-j6-committee/

What's next... NPR's Deirdre Walsh reports Chairman Thompson, citing the "flow of new info coming into [the] panel," Monday evening announced the Committee is changing its plans and will issue a "scaled-down" report of its findings in the fall, with its final report to be issued by the end of the year. Axios' Andrew Solender notes the scaled-down report will likely be in September and adds that Chairman Thompson says the Committee will hold a hearing on both the scaled-down report and its final report.www.rawstory.com/j6-chair-announces-committee-s-additional-plans/

www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/07/19/matthew-pottinger-jan-6-trump-tweet-pence/ This week, the House select committee on Jan. 6 will hold a prime-time hearing designed to demonstrate Donald Trump’s depraved and venal conduct as the violence raged on the day itself. If you wanted to boil down the significance of this into two sentences, here’s one way you might do it:
- During his final days as president, Donald Trump launched an extraordinarily corrupt effort to persuade his vice president, Mike Pence, to abuse his official duty in order to help Trump cling to power illegitimately and probably illegally.
- When that pressure campaign failed, Trump turned to a violent mob as the weapon that might finish the job for him.
Trump’s tweet attacking Pence already provides some evidence that he deliberately weaponized the crowd to finish the job of disrupting the electoral count in Congress.

I think this is an excellent point. Trump had a responsibility to protect the Capitol and he failed miserably. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/07/19/jan-6-committee-final-hearing-what-trump-inaction-means/ The committee set out to to tell the complete story of Jan. 6 to provide a definitive historical account and assist in formulating suggestions to prevent a repeat in future elections. This effort is also critical for the public and the Republican Party to understand the depth of Trump’s betrayal and his egregious refusal to perform his duties as commander in chief. If Trump, as president, failed to activate the armed services during a foreign attack on our homeland — or worse, put out tweets praising the attackers — it would be tantamount to treason. In the face of domestic terrorism, his obligation to act was no less clear.
Trump’s refusal to intervene, even as he was watching the violence play out on his television, is powerful evidence that he was seeking to creating havoc and to disrupt the congressional proceedings. His inaction suggests that when all other nonviolent, illegal means failed, he was willing to use the mob to accomplish his ends.
If the Jan. 6 committee’s hearing on Thursday is anything like its seven previous hearings, viewers should be prepared to learn just how deplorable Trump’s conduct truly was — and how solid the potential criminal case against him is.

Well now.... The fake electors in Georgia... May be getting a bit nervous... Hice wants his case moved to Federal Court.. could it be he thinks the next GQP will give him a pardon? During a discussion about the Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA) being subpoenaed by the Fulton County District Attorney, former Homeland Security Department chief of staff Miles Taylor suggested that allies of Donald Trump should consider getting lawyers if they haven't already. Hice, a firm "states rights" advocate, is begging that the grand jury be moved from the state to the federal court system. The case, however, involves the violation of state election laws. www.rawstory.com/trump-allies-should-get-lawyers/

Business insider has done FOIA requests to the Dept of Defense... Not sure why the committee didn't ask. I guess more important with the USSS missing texts.. The U.S. Department of Defense on Tuesday released 48-pages of Jan. 6 communications following a Freedom of Information Act request from Business Insider. "Together, this initial release of emails provides dramatic, if decidedly incomplete insight into Trump administration activities in the hours immediately before, during, and after a mob of President Donald Trump's supporters attacked the US Capitol on January 6," Insider reported. "One email includes a highly redacted exchange — subject: 'fencing' — between Kash Patel, chief of staff to then-Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller, and Anthony Ornato, Trump's deputy White House chief of staff for operations, who drew national attention earlier this month after Trump aide Cassidy Hutchinson testified before the US House's January 6 select committee about him." www.rawstory.com/pentagon-jan-6-emails/
