Here’s another fun, but very different, studio space! Scott (Card Cut-Ups) reorganized his ~9x10ft guest room/office/studio with a Murphy bed/desk and tall IKEA cabinets with full extension drawer slides. It’s an interesting contrast to other spaces people have shared At the end he has some still photos of the insides of the cabinets.

I was going to post this too - have followed/loved Scott for ages. His card designs often aren’t like what I make but his thinking is brilliant and imaginative, and he’s so engaging plus his laugh!

Way more realistic for me although an extra room in a big city is absolute luxury! He's so fortunate (and I'm jelly ). It seems well organised and practical all around. All that's required is knowing where the stuff is and it's all within easy reach while being tucked away behind doors. Small spaces can feel claustrophobic so quickly with everything on display. I did curse the choice in door handles on the brand new IKEA cabinets. My aesthetic brain kicked and wanted something pretty and chic to finish it all off in style (or at least coordinate with the handles on the pull-out bed). But to each their own!

I loved this example of really utilizing every nook and cranny that you have, made me realize I have a LOT of wasted space in my scrap area.

What's the name of that cabinet? My supplies are in my living room. It's small, but there's a vaulted ceiling. I'd also like it for storing bulky kitchen items instead of having to retrieve them from my basement.

I love this!
I'm lucky to have a carft/guest room. While I would love to have a Murphy bed in my room. I do use the storage underneath the bed and I use the bed itself to lay out my papers and etc. I love those tall cabinets.

Am I the only one that cannot, cannot make holes in the walls by hanging shelves or cabinets? I just can’t.
The only “high” shelves I have are two tall Ikea shelf cabinets (with legs) that I bought years and years ago. And a 2 x4 Kallax standing up.

I had the same reaction! ugh. Almost any other choice would've been better IMO. And thanks for identifying the cabinets. I figured they had to be kitchen related. My biggest peeve with the Alex drawers is not having full extension access - most people seem to stash things they hardly use in the backs of their Alex drawers, guaranteeing they won't use them.

his thinking is brilliant and imaginative, and he’s so engaging plus his laugh! He's a laugh. I love the way he cracks himself up, especially when he makes punny cards. He seems like a good guy, he loves making cards, and he comes up with some really out of the box ideas sometimes. I can see why he doesn't film process videos, sharing that tiny space. I've always wished he had better lighting for his videos, even though they're fine, I just wish they were brighter, but again, I can see why they are a bit dark/green now.

I wish I could go up on the walls - it makes a lot of sense in a small space - but it doesn't suit my 100 yo house and its plaster walls, and I have a fear of commitment (and drills). I would love a whole wall of storage somewhere in my house.

I like how he's organized stuff so he can easily pull it out to place on his workspace. Thanks for sharing the video.

His enthusiasm is super fun. This rooms feels more accessible to me. Not nearly as pretty, but more "doable" in a lot of ways. I'm a huge fan of soft close drawers/cabinets but never thought about using for my craft room. I may have to try that in my new space. My Alex stuff is showing a lot of wear and tear after 3 moves so it might be time to switch it out. He does such a great use of his small space.

Scott is this intriguing blend of engineer and designer/artist. He works in theater, and yes, it’s contagious when he cracks himself up! Sometimes I’m blown away by where his brains goes when designing a card.

You don't have any furniture that needs securing to walls? Not even bookshelves? A chest of drawers? I've moved many a time since I was a young child and I'm so used to drilling being one of the first things to do when we move in to a new place. Picking where the bookcases and wardrobe will go is always one of the initial decisions that will decide the whole flow and living plan. I even have the top extensions for the bookcases making them extra high.

I even have the top extensions for the bookcases making them extra high. We have a few pieces of taller furniture 6, maybe 7 feet, but they are fairly stable, there are no kids coming to the house, and we don't live in earthquake country, so I don't feel the need to make holes in the walls. I have made a few holes for a clock, some picture frames + some decor ones. But nothing heavy duty. This was a brand new house when we moved in. I want to keep my nice walls.

They are NOT 16” on center. Drill a line of holes looking for that sucker.
