The collection thread made me think about how I organize my collections by theme. Understand I have A LOT of paper. Way too much, but I just love scrapbook supplies.
My themes (each has a separate Iris box or 2 gallon bag)
- Christmas- red/green (3 boxes) - Winter/Blue Christmas - Halloween (2 boxes) - Fall - orange/brown (2 boxes) - Beach - vintage/adult - Beach - cutesy/child - Beach - nautical/red/blue - Tropical/Mexico - Boys - Teens - Animals/Zoo (2 boxes) - Music - Sports - Beer/coffee/food/restaurants/breweries - Baby - Easter/July 4/St. Patrick's Day/other holidays - Birthday - Disney/Star Wars - School - Purple/Blue collections - Florals - Vintage/European style lines - Shimelle (2 boxes) - Vicki Boutin (2 boxes) - Paige Evans - Amy Tangerine - Basic Grey (3 boxes) - Fun Paper - one-offs (like Reminisce), graffiti, bricks, wood, metals, etc.
I'm sure I have other themes, too, but I can't recall off the top of my head. Twenty years of scrap supplies. I have purged a few times- it is probably time to do that again. Okay, it is definitely time to do that again.
So what themes/categories do other people have?

I have a few sectioned off things but I don't think I theme scrap too often. Christmas stuff that isn't paper is in one of theseAnd then each of these papers/sticker sheets/12x12 chipboard if it fits in one of theseSpring Summer Fall Halloween Valentine's Day/Love Christmas I think that's it for themed goodies, it's so small in comparison! lol

I don't have too many themes. I keep my paper mostly by collection/designer/brand, or some other category not specific to a theme like "b-sides" or "solids".
Holiday/Christmas Halloween Dogs Vacation Camping/Outdoor Disney/Licensed Characters
That is all I can think of right now.

So I store my paper by collection if I bought several sheets of one collection or a collection kit. If it's not enough to make up a collection, then I store it by theme. I also keep any 12x12 sticker sheets that fit the theme in there, and sometimes other embellishments as well. My themes are very broad:
Baby Outdoors Christmas Winter/snow Halloween Fall Spring/floral Summer/Beach Food/fruit (I did a fruit themed album for my niece and kinda left the theme as is for now, will likely dissolve this theme lol) Travel

I really don't have enough stuff to be storing by many themes. I keep my PL cards mostly by colour with some basic thematic subdivisions: winter/Christmas, autumn/Halloween, spring, summer, generic journaling cards.
For my small paper stash: - winter + Christmas - autumn + Halloween - generic florals - travel - Disney - generic patterns with neutral colours
That's it. I'm a small player compared to most posters!

I try not to sort my products by theme; I find it too limiting.
That said my organizational categories are:
-Christmas (3 categories... faith based, modern, traditional) -Winter -Halloween -School -Fall -Travel: General -Travel: Disney -Travel: Camping -Travel: Zoo - Baby - Birthday -Geometrics -Florals -solids -Icons (paper with a pattern that isn't geometric or floral, basically) -Viki Boutin (sorted by collection) Basic Grey (haven't decided how I'm sorting it)

I’m not a huge theme scrapper. I sort by item. Paper with paper, stickers with stickers, etc I have Christmas Marines Disney It is funny how different we all are. I'd struggle not having themes. I used to work with a teacher who saved all paper from her career. She'd just pile it up on her desk and at the end of the school year, she'd put it one big container and store it above the coat rack. I could literally walk in her room and ask for the calendar for the week of May 5th, 2002 and she could take down that tote and give it to me. She had an amazing memory and filing system. Without themes, I'd feel so lost. ETA: I'm not sure of the names of all of my themes, but I know I have over 20 of them. For me, each theme is listed on a plastic 12.5 x 12.5 x 1 plastic container that holds random paper from the theme and then the rest of the paper is in baggies according to lines to the right of the container.

I’ve never stored things by theme. I do PL now but still have a chunk of patterned paper from when I did 12x12. I stored by color - and when there was multi colors, I sorted by the one that jumped out to me the most. Besides color I had (and still also have) assorted color (for all the dotted, florals, stripes thet I really couldn’t chose one color as predominant) and one section for themed - this is anything in all the categories you all are mentioning including Christmas. I’ve never really preferred themed paper it seemed too limiting to me and got in the way of all the other things I wanted to add to pages.

I only store some of my embellishments by theme and have the below.
Travel Christmas Birthday Food Birds/butterflies/animals/other critters
All my other embellishments are stored by type or colour. In a move that's sure to make a lot of you twitchy, my patterned paper has absolutely no organisation to it.

I have all the usual themes, plus hockey, baseball, scrapbooking/crafting, beauty salon - DGD is planning to go to cosmetology school, plus loves playing with hair and makeup so I bought today's Peachy Cheap collection. I have a camping box for my childhood photos, plus the outdoor elements work well for other things, too.
Oh, and I look like a Felicity Jane hoarder. I have 8 months I haven't used, due to DH's illness and my move. I'm hoping to play with those soon, then I'll combine them all.

I keep collections together and have some embellishments stored separately. The categories for collections and embellishments are similar.
Seasons - Spring, Summer/beach, Fall, Winter
Holidays & Celebrations - Christmas, Halloween, July 4th (Dh was in the military and I used patriotic collections for our DC and Williamsburg trips, so I have a lot) Birthdays
Travel Disney Sea World, Universal & Harry Potter
Outdoors - camping, hiking, national parks, scouts etc. Nautical with sections for Pirates & Sea life (we have 2 sailboats, paddle boards and a canoe, so we spend a lot of time on the water)
Baby Boy Little Boy with sections for dinosaurs, cowboy, space and planes, trains & automobiles
School with a graduation section Sports
Home & Family Gardening & Food (cooking, baking etc) crafting
Love, Valentines & Wedding
Animals - with sections for pets, farm & zoo

I sort by brand for the most part. But I do keep the following separate because if I need those topics, I'm searching for them specifically. Christmas Fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving Baby Pool/Billiards and Golf

I am so glad a lot of you have a crazy amount of themes, too. I was kind of embarrassed once I started listing them.
I forgot a few themes:
Outdoors/Forest Superheroes and Comics School College (Ohio University forever!) Vacation Places: Washington DC, Delaware, Philadelphia, etc.
I can understand people not using themes- I do a lot of pages like that, too. But if I'm doing a baseball page, for example, I just want to put something baseball related on it.
A notable crossed themed page I did was one when my nephew dressed as LeBron James for Halloween. So it was a combination of basketball paper with bats and spooky Halloween Thickers. I'm very proud of that page.

I am not big on themes with most things organized by manufacturer, color, and/or type. My few themes:
Christmas Halloween Son and daughter- specific to my kids and interests through the years, not gender Cats School Travel
That’s really all I separate out for themes. I tend to scrap most pages by mood and feel, either matching materials I want to use with photos or photos I want to use with materials.

Oh Gosh, so many!
Winter/Christmas Camping Sports Spring Summer Fall Halloween Comic Con Pride Autism Cook book DS #2, still not finished with his first 5 years
Books Entertainment (movies, music, TV, concerts, plays) People Disney Valentine's
St. Patrick's Easter specific people; grandma, grandpa, and dad
Heritage School Words (quite a few generic stamp sets that are for everyday life photos) Stripes, Floral, Mulitcolor, and polkadot (not much)
I also have a pretty good collection and over 20 years of scrapbooking. Some are just stamps. Others could fill a couple of Iris Cases.

Often the photo defines the theme, along with my title and journaling. I just don’t feel the need in many cases to add themed embellishments. I am lazy that way. 😆

You actually get your machine out. I haven't bought a Cricut yet. I have the cartridge one but the rubber on the cartridges is disintegrating so I need to buy the new type. You also do journaling and I'm so lazy about that. I have hundreds of layouts I need to go back to and journal on. I just love themed embellishments and paper, I guess. I have tons of unthemed pages but I do love using themed stuff, too. Maybe I just like the excuse to buy new stuff.
