It seems like it was longer than 3 years and just last year at the same time.
I ended up loosing 201 pounds in all, have gained some back.
I never want to go through that recovery again. It was by far the worse recovery I have had.

Sending you good karma for never enduring such a recovery again.
A friend who had it done has become quite a bicycle enthusiast in order to keep the weight off.

You must feel like a new person!

You must feel like a new person! Healing seemed to be the worse of it. The surgery itself lasted 4 hours, now have no belly button. I ended with with 6 surgical drains between June and September. All fell out or broke. Ended up in the hospital in July due to infection around the incision, which was hip to hip. Would also have random spots on incision open. It took 7 months to fully heal. I had to wear a binder for 6 weeks and change wound care dressings for the 7 months

Wow, what an ordeal. That's an amazing amount of weight loss though, congratulations! I have two close friends that have recently had weight loss surgery and they have heard so many skin removal surgery horror stories like yours that neither of them is at all interested in pursuing the skin removal. It seems like it's just so painful.

My neighbor next door had the weight loss surgery and lost an incredible amount of weight. I don't know if she has had the skin removal procedure. I will have to ask her when she comes back from vacation.
Your ordeal sounds painful and exhausting. But your results are impressive with a 200-pound weight loss! Congratulations on all your hard efforts. And I'm happy that all the pain and surgery is behind you now.

I’ve always thought the skin removal procedure sounds excruciating.
I wonder, too - do they prepare/warn patients pre-operatively regarding the amount of pain they can expect?

I don't remember if they told me anything about pain prior to surgery. I did have a morphine pump for about 24 hours afterwards. It was set for 10 minute intervals.

Yeah, I’d think that would be necessary for the immediate post-op period. So glad you’ve healed and that is behind you!

I agree...and my recovery was 'textbook'; but I never imagined the pain, swelling, and limited mobility would be so bad or last so long.

I am not going to have skin removal as much as I would like to. I am too old to deal with elective pain.
I lost 120 lbs. At my lowest I was down to 106 but have been about 118 for awhile. I need my stomach apron removed but since it does fit into my pants I'm just going to cover it up. I have heard that pain is horrible

Congrats, I hope you are doing well.
Just curious, how is this different than a tummy tuck in terms of process and pain?
Which additional parts of your body did you have surgery on?

Oh wow, I don't remember seeing your story, and I love to open your stories because... dogs and movies!
Are you happy with the final results, after you've been all healed for a while? Did it improve your life -- are you more comfortable now?

Overall, do you feel the surgery and weight loss have improved your quality of life?
I'm sorry you experienced so much pain and trauma during recovery. Do you have any lingering issues, or is that part of your journey in the past?
It took a lot of bravery to go through that. Be proud of yourself and enjoy the body you've worked so hard to enjoy!

I have been down to 107 and I'm sitting at 125 right now ... my weight has fluctuated over the years but such is life ... I had my gastric bypass in 2003 ... Weight loss surgery (and any further surgery) is such a personal thing ... it was the best thing for me but I know it isn't for everyone ...

Congrats, I hope you are doing well. Just curious, how is this different than a tummy tuck in terms of process and pain? Which additional parts of your body did you have surgery on? They cut of skin/tissue but didn't tighten what was left. The first 24 hours were rough pain wise, my skin itched for a while due to staples. (They were in for 3 weeks). If I have another, it will likely be thighs/upper legs due to skin infections. That is one big reason I had the abdominal skin removed. For those asking, quality of life has improved. Not as many skin infections. Clothes fit better. I can park farther away from stores and don't have to have a motorized cart. I am limited in exercise right now due to recent lung infections and hospital stays due to that.
