It shouldn't be, but a lot of elections come down to popularity contests. Voters are really uniformed and sometimes vote for the name they've heard. Newsom may have done a decent job as governor but a lot of people outside of California hate the state and anything it stands for. Or hate him because of Covid restrictions. Regrettably, there are a lot of people that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, zenophobic, misogynistic, anti- Semetic etc and they will never vote for any of those candidates. Democrats can't win the presidential election with just Democratic votes. They need independents, too. So, electability matters. My guess is that DeSantis will run in 2024, even if Trump runs. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/06/27/ron-desantis-snub-trump-2024-nomination-battle/He's worse than Trump. He's just as conservative, possibly more, but smarter with more political savvy and polish. He won't offend people the way that Trump did (except with his politics) Congratulations you just went a long way in proving my comment the voters in this country suck at their job of voting. Let’s recap Gavin Newsom can’t win the presidential election because he’s the governor of CA and people don’t like CA. Secretary Pete can’t win the presidential election because he’s gay. Hillary didn’t win the presidential election because she is a women with “baggage” that if anyone had actually looked into this “baggage” they would have found it was much ado about nothing. But yet a two bit game show host with no qualifications won the presidential election. A man who we learned yesterday was active in the attempt to overthrow legally certified state elections and if the Vice President of the United States was hung in the process he would be ok with it because he felt he deserved it. A man who spent hours before the tv watching the events unfold and did nothing. Even though he had the power to stop it. And now there is a slicker smarter version of trump planning on running for president, a man who just today banned rainbow clothing in schools. Do you have any idea how many kids clothing have rainbows on them? This man has a chance of winning while Newsom doesn’t because he’s the governor of CA and people hate CA. And Secretary Pete can’t win because he’s gay. Do you know how dumb that is? I guess I didn’t understand that the Democrats needed to reach out to the other side to win elections when I annoyed the progressives on this board by pointing out that very thing. All sarcasm aside, until We the People fully understand that it’s through our votes we form the government and when the government isn’t working or we see that we made made mistakes in our choices, We the People have the power to change it through the ballot box. And until we do, the country will continue to spiral out of control into who knows what, but it can’t be good. This thread of tweets caught my attention and IMO there is a lot of truth in them. She is talking about young voters but I think it could be said about voters of all ages. The voters don't "suck" at voting. In fact, the Republicans have mastered the art of voting for a handful principles that you can count on any conservative politician supporting--abortion, tax cuts, anti-LGBTQ, forcing Christianity on the masses. Therefore, they do not have to think about whether or not they will vote for the Republican candidate. They will vote simply because they are Republican, and as the Blues Brothers so famously said, they are "on a mission from God." On the other hand, Democrats want to be known as the big tent party. They embrace every identity and try to have something for everyone in the party, and there are too many competing voices to sound like one unified group. Businesses fail when they try to expand into areas that are outside their core business. The Republicans are good at knowing what they do well and doing it consistently. It is just unfortunate that what they do well is really bad for our country. Democrats, on the other hand, are like a successful grocery chain that decides to start a hardware store, then a car dealership, then a travel agency, etc. Pretty soon, the grocery company finds out that these other enterprises don't really work well with the grocery store concept, and there is no benefit to offering these goods and services. Eventually, the whole company goes belly up. Meanwhile, the competitor that just continued to sell groceries is thriving. The Democrats need to find focus. Instead, they are fractured and working against each other. If they cannot get their sh*t together in the next few months, we are headed for disaster once DeSantis (or whoever wins the Republican primary) is sworn in January 2025. They need to find the three or four things that ALL people need right now and focus on those issues.

According to this poll in Dec 2021 of potential Democratic primary voters, if Biden doesn't run, Harris and Buttigieg came out ahead. morningconsult.com/2021/12/15/dem-primary-2024-poll/If Newsom does run, I think the Republicans will hammer him for crime and homelessness. www.abc10.com/article/news/local/california/gov-newsom-approval-rating-with-surveyed-voters-shows-uc-berkeley-poll/103-6832ac2b-78fb-428a-a4dc-4f26d0696ca0thought this was interesting, too on a presidential run and his chances www.nytimes.com/2022/06/21/us/politics/gavin-newsom-2024-president.html All three of the country’s Californian presidents — Herbert Hoover, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan — were Republicans, however. No Democrat from California has ever been elected to the Oval Office.
“They’ve never really been to college on how to win a Michigan or a Wisconsin,” said Mike Murphy, a Republican political consultant based in Los Angeles. “So their instincts tend to be wrong.”An interesting poll of governors. Overall, they do really well, with Republican governors doing especially well. centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/governors-escaping-publics-wrath-even-as-so-many-others-falter/

I have to say your description of Republican voters is the best one I have seen and also supports my belief the voters suck at their job of voting. So while they focus on their core group of issues, the individuals they vote for are lying, spreading misinformation, passing voter suppression laws, setting the ground work to overturn elections simply because they don’t like the outcome, attacking the foundation of this country and offer no solutions to the real problems facing this country. These voters kind of remind me of Nero fiddling as Rome burned down around him. In this case it’s the Republican voters and it’s not Rome burning but the United States. As a reminder the job of We the People is to elect individuals to run a functioning government that addresses the problems that plague this country. Not a government that adds to the problems. It’s We the People who elect these guys, not someone from outer space. And when things go wrong and the government is not functioning the way it should there is no one to blame but the voters and the choices they made. That is if they even bothered to show up and make a choice.

Of course. However... Did you stop and think that perhaps it’s the Democrats in power who are failing? They can make as many promises as they wish, but if they don’t deliver, they’re not getting the votes. No need to tell me a lot of Rs are deranged fascists because by now, it’s axiomatic. But one doesn’t win by merely screaming the other side is composed of dangerous lunatics who will burn down this country. It’s not enough to scream, “Well, the other side doesn’t have solutions or plans.” One wins by showing a record of actually delivering to the voters what the voters want. Stop and think if we delivered on any of these stated promises: protect voting rights; provide Medicare option to those under 65; codify Roe; pass robust climate legislation; implement large-scale student debt cancellation; provide means-tested tuition-free public college; increase federal minimum wage to $15 (not just for federal workers); lower costs of prescription drugs; and I’ve forgotten the others by now. They didn’t even do anything about the expanded child tax credit which would have been of tremendous help to tens of millions of families who are struggling! Every single bloody thing has been a fight between moderates and progressives. Just asking for a freakin’ carve-out of the filibuster on specific issues like voting rights has been impossible. Everybody talks about Manchin and Sinema when the truth is they’re not the only ones standing in the way—about seven or eight Ds, including your own senator, are standing in the way because their allegiance to the filibuster is greater than their desire to deliver to the voters what the voters want. And our party wants people to vote D because democracy is at stake? What would make voters think Ds can protect democracy when they can’t even deliver on voting rights? What would make young voters come out in droves and vote D? What have Ds done for them? This is why we’re losing people—black and Latino voters most especially. It’s not that they’ll necessarily vote R; it’s that they’ll likely not vote at all. We lose those voting blocs and we’re done for. Roe and Casey overturn—one would think this should be an animating factor in Nov. Ds will ensure right to choose will be protected exactly how? Read the reactions of those in power—is there anything there that tells anyone this is indeed going to be done by Ds? They don’t even want to pack the SC via legislation, which is a heck of a lot easier to do than a constitutional amendment for term limits that requires 3/4 states’ ratification! And yet, SC reform is part of their plank. What reform? Voters aren’t naïve—they know when they’re being sold a bill of goods.

Liar liar another liar justice... The United States Supreme Court on Thursday denied a religious liberty challenge to New York health care workers who were fighting against the state's vaccine mandate -- but not without a dissent from Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas that claimed COVID-19 vaccines were developed using "aborted children."*** In fact, the COVID-19 vaccines, as well as several other vaccines developed in the 21st Century, have used stem cell lines from aborted fetuses that had been frozen more than five decades ago. However, even the Catholic Church, which maintains that abortion is a sin, does not believe there are legitimate religious objections to using the vaccines.www.rawstory.com/clarence-thomas-vaccines/

They need to find the three or four things that ALL people need right now and focus on those issues. ^^^ thank you for this. Well let’s be clear I didn’t say “boy you all are stupid”. I said the voters in this country suck at their job of voting. And since I do live in this country and since I do vote that would include me and yes I have made some dumb choices. It also gives me the right to criticize what I see as wrong. In this country American Citizens have the right to decide if they want to vote or if they don’t want to vote. They also have the free will to check any box they want on the ballot. The voters have an unwritten list of what makes a candidate electable or unelectable and actual qualifications that would give one the sense they could do the job seem to be at the very bottom of this list if its even on the list. But when things go wrong the majority of voters blame everyone but themselves. But when one brings that up, folks tend to get a little testy. Why is that? Are we suppose to ignore the elephant in the room by ignoring our part in this mess and just blame the very politicians we elected? Are we suppose to shrug and ignore the group bolded above that are so against a woman choice about an abortion or members of the LGBT community be allowed to have the same rights as the rest of Americans that they continue to vote for candidates that offer no solutions to the serious problems that plague this country. But yet they excel in lying and deliberately spewing misinformation while continuing to support an individual who plotted to overturn a legal election and if the VP was hanged that would be ok. Suggest what? How to fix this mess? The only way this mess can be fixed is by the very voters themselves and at this point I’m not holding out much hope that it can be done. However your grouse on the subject is duly noted.

But.... Hypocrite!! Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., on Thursday sent out a fundraising email touting her work to protect women's health care after shooting down President Joe Biden's proposal to codify abortion rights. Sinema was accused of hypocrisy after repeatedly touting her support for abortion rights. Former Obama administration digital strategist Tim Fullerton flagged a fundraising email Sinema's campaign sent out Thursday touting her work to "protect women's health care." *** Sinema said after the Supreme Court last week struck down federal abortion protections that the ruling "endangers the health and wellbeing of women." *** Throughout my time in Congress, I've always supported women's access to health care, and I'll continue working with anyone to protect women's ability to make decisions about their futures," she said in a statement that noted she has "repeatedly voted in favor of protecting women's right to choose and is a cosponsor of the Women's Health Protection Act." *** www.rawstory.com/sinema-kills-plan-to-codify-abortion-rights-then-fundraises-on-protecting-womens-health-care/
