that pays a full minimum wage or more to servers? Someone said that things would change if servers got paid minimum wage. I live in Washington where everyone gets paid at least minimum wage, and we also live in a state that has the highest minimum wage. It is still pretty much expected that you tip people at restaurants, and I've even seen tip jars at Dairy Queen.
I really don't like tipping- especially since I've worked at jobs that paid minimum wage(or a bit over), and we weren't allowed to accept tips. I do tip at restaurants and hair salons- since I've had it ingrained in my head that they are supposed to be tipped, but I wonder if things really would change if everyone was paid a minimum wage.
I also wonder why other states don't require everyone to be paid minimum wage. I don't think our restaurant food costs are any higher than other states.

I live in Washington State. I tip 20% as a minimum. Unless service is abysmal, which very rarely happens.

Tip. Minimum wage doesn't begin to cover living expenses. I always tip.

Tip. Minimum wage doesn't begin to cover living expenses. I always tip. I have always wondered about this mindset. Wouldn't we also then tip fast food and retail workers? I worked retail for many years with no tip and was paid minimum wage or just slightly above. Waitresses and baristas I know made more per hour than I did and they got tips on top of that.

Yea, it's a weird system. I don't know how anyone survives on min wage. My dd works as a hostess in a very busy restaurant in Santa Barbara. She doesn't make tips and runs her butt off. She seriously works full time just to pay rent.
