I know we've had these in the past, but right along I was still babying a very old desktop computer along, so I was able to still use my beloved Picasa. But alas, at the beginning of this year that computer died and with it went my Picasa. So now I don't know if any of the suggestions on the older threads are still ones people think are good or not---if they even exist. I need it to be a program for my desktop. Not a mobile app. I do nothing on a phone due to vision issues. What I primarily used Picasa for was 2 things---super easily cropping all of my photos to 4x6 size. (Or any other size---you could input any size you want, and Picasa would do it.) AND, similarly, I made 4x6 size collages. And that right there is the one crucial thing I need. All of my scrapbooking has ground to a halt since January because I used to make tons of collages on 4x6 prints so I could get all sorts of different size & shape smaller photos to use in my albums. (Not just the wallet or square sizes offered by most printing companies.) I am willing to pay for the service. Picasa being free was fantastic, but I need to have something to make these prints & collages in the 4x6 size---EASILY---because I am a moron---and so I'm happy to pay. I tried Googling a few things, and one made collages, but didn't give me any way to set the sizes of the photos being used or the final printing size. And several were well beyond what I know how to do---I've been using Picasa for well over a decade and know nothing of any other photo editing software. If anyone has any ideas that will allow me to start getting my 4x6 collage prints again, I will appreciate it so very much!!

I use PhotoSheet. www.photility.com/photosheet/#gsc.tab=0You can easily put photos on a 4x6 size as well as other formats like 5x7 and 8x10. You can also add white borders or round them if you want. It isn't great if you want a very specific size of photo. There are lots of collages you can choose from though.

I still lament the long lost Picasa, which I used mainly for organisation of thumbnails but also for simple edits. I tried - and failed - with Lightbox, finding that it crashed my PC too frequently for such an 'investment program'. Eventually I tried and have settled upon Capture One Pro, which isn't Picasa but which offers that organisation and simple editing that I use daily. I am not 100% behind it, but it will do until something better comes along (I will follow this thread for suggestions!) There's a 30 day free trial of Capture One here www.captureone.com/en

Ok is Picasa not available as an unsupported download any longer? I had at least been able to download Picasa in the past on my laptop. I know it is not supported but at least I could use the old version.

Diptic is available on PC, Mac and also has a mobile app available. If you order your prints, Persnickity Prints has collages in several sizes as well.

I so miss Picasa. I've been using Acdsee (the pay once version, not the subscription) but I don't really like it.
I've pretty much given up editing my photos (not that I used to do much editing anyway) because the editing portion is so non-intuitive for me, that I spend half my time looking things up on Google. Simple things I should not have to Google "how to crop a photo in Acdsee" because it's hidden in some menu inside another menu somewhere...
I will be watching this thread because I need a new program.

melanell I upgraded my laptop last year and I downloaded Picasa from FileHippo. Just make sure when you click the download and install buttons there are no other buttons clicked to install unwanted software. IIRC, there were one or two "installs" I had to say no to. Maybe Avast and something else, I can't remember. My bummer of an issue is that I had all my digi scrapbooking kits in Picasa and they were all tagged and organized and now they're not. BooHoo! ETA: You can still use it, it's just not maintained with upgrades or new features.

Canva is a serviceable option. You can create a custom-sized canvas (I go 8x12 so I've got a 4x6 ratio but maintain decent image size for printing). I don't know if you can edit the images much in Canva. I generally use the web version (as opposed to an app)
I've historically used Photoshop CC but there's definitely a learning curve.
I don't know why decent collaging software isn't available these days.

It worked! Took a few tries, but I managed to find a place to download it and I have it back. Thank you so much!! AND, since I don't know how long I'll be able to keep using it, I will still be looking into the alternatives you all suggested, so I can find & learn a back-up program. Thanks so much, everyone!
