Calling All Card Crafters! We have a beautiful spirit that is in great need of an uplifting birthday card. You can help make this Mission Possible. The recipient, who just lost her husband of 50+ years, is celebrating her 85th Birthday this month and could use some extra birthday wishes to renew and uplift her wounded spirit. Your Mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to create or buy a birthday card and send it to the recipient below. (Please no mention of her recent loss.) Your participation will be truly appreciated. This message will not self destruct, because this is Mission Possible.....and because you need the name and address of course. Thank You in advance for using your talent to brighten Jeanette's day!

Could we talk about messages inside cards such as these? I've kind of muddled through the couple of other times I've sent to a stranger, but I'm curious what you all do.
How do you go about it? Do you make a personal note to the recipient, or a more generic greeting without a meaty message, sign it, and call it good? Any and all advice is welcomed.

MichyM it depends. For a birthday I write something like 'Hi Jeanette, I heard you have a birthday coming up. I'd like to wish you a Happy Birthday from California. GiantsFan.' If it's not for a birthday like maybe a hello or thinking of you then I'll make mention whether I've been to the state they live in, adding my favorite city/site or if I haven't been what I'm hoping to visit. Or something like, 'Hoping this card brings a smile to you.' If they're ill then 'Wishing for a speedy recovery.' Just a couple of sentences. If it's for a kid I'll write something similar to the above. But if the person asking for the card mentions what the kid likes to do or collects something then I can tailor the outside of the card to that. Like dinos, space, unicorns, etc. I never put my last name or a return address. I don't want someone to feel like they have to return a card to me. ETA: Re-reading this and what the heck with all the typos!

Just to be clear - as it's almost the end of June, and you say she's celebrating this month, is her birthday in June? Her birthday is July 3rd. Thank you! One of my great-granddaughters will turn 13 on that day. I will put a card for Jeanette in the mail tomorrow. It probably won't arrive in time, but she can keep celebrating next week. Turning 85 is a big deal! So nice of you to do this for her.
