Sure, it’s a “road trip”, but it’s mostly just the mode of transportation and we’re trying to get through as quickly as possible, to get to the vacation destination.
What kinds of things would you document for the drive?
A few things I can think of: The packed vehicle Bag of snacks Map/route Price of gas/total for filling up the tank Teens sleeping in the back ? ?
I’m sure The Peas will come up with some great suggestions!!
Thanks in advance!

We took photos of the Welcome to _____(state) signs and when we stopped at rest areas, some of them had local displays or art or even trails and we took photos there as well.

Document milage. You can do between each stop and then total.
Document time spent driving each day.
Document weather/Temps.
Document scenery.
If you stop at a grocery store, Document cost of common items?

Play the license plate game. Keep track of what states you can click off. At the end, print out license plates, with thoughts on what you think of the license plate graphics? Which was your favorite design?
Keep track of how many Waffle Houses you pass.

My kids and I color a map of the states for the license plate game. I always include it in my album to document the trip.
Document what the kids are playing / watching on their devices. Does each person have a special favorite snack you bring? We LOVE gum and have pics of us all attempting the biggest bubbles each time. Did you find something unusual at the gas stations? Gas station bathroom selfie is also a thing we do. Screenshot your route on your phone if you're using it for the navigating.

I like to keep my DSLR in the front seat with me, set for action shots so I can get pictures as we're driving fast on the interstates. I like to get "welcome to ______" signs, signs for major rivers, stopped traffic (if unlucky enough to hit some), skylines of major cities, etc. Or just anything interesting along the way, especially the further away from home & what you normally see.
Other things I've documented include the movies that were watched (on the van's DVD player), XM radio stations we listened to, places we stopped to eat/fill up/potty break.

+ any music or podcasts you and/or the teens listened to; document the playlist(s) and favorites + games/discussions/friendly banter (or recurring friendly arguments?) that occurred during the trip** + movies/shows watched if the passengers have anything downloaded on their devices for the trip + do a page of "most/least" or "worst/best" -- for example: which state had the most and least # of restaurant/gas stops, most/least amount of traffic, most/fewest ticky-tacky tourist traps, etc., or best/worst food, best/worst billboards, best/worst things purchased at said ticky-tacky toursist traps (if you indulge, LOL), etc.
** For example, some of our favorite road trip memories come from some friendly recurring arguments and silly banter between cousins and siblings when they were preschool/elementary aged; likewise another memorable road trip (this time with teens to FL for WDW) happened just after a major release of Pokemon GO, so they were actively asking if we could please stop at particular places so they could get a certain character, LOL.
ETA: Yes, definitely any movies watched by the whole car on built-in DVD players; or games played on those screens as well.

I like to get pictures of the state sign as you enter. I once documented all the rivers we cross on our road trip to Nashville. We cross the Missouri River 4 times on that trip. Also the Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, and Cumberland Rivers.

One road trip we took DD's little beanie baby mouse and posed him for pictures in different places. Kinda like a Flat Stanley.

I always take a picture of what’s in our cup holders. This week I took a photo of all the stuff at my feet. For some reason all the things end up by my feet.

On our last road trip we kept track of how much we spent on gas and where we bought it (also price per gallon).
Also every area has it's own soda/pop and snacks. Take pictures and definitely buy them to try them!

Get a paper with a map of the US and mark each place you stop with a photo. I will post a layout I did for one of my son's cross country trip. Echo Park makes paper for each state in a pack so maybe pick that up as well. www.echoparkpaper.com/collections/stateside/

elegantsufficiency Love the temperature low and high on Barbara's page but I wish she'd have added the location and time when both were registered. I think that would've been of interest. We like to photograph evidence of the roadtrip such as the bottles of water we drank, McDonald's we got from the drive-through on the road, the magazines I flipped through. One thing I've also done on a longer roadtrip was photograph a local newspaper with the headline clearly showing daily. It's interesting to see what the main point of interest was in each place we traversed.

myboysnme I did a similar layout for our trip to Mount Rushmore/Deadwood/Devil’s Tower. I used brads thru the map at specific locations and then wrapped bakers twine around the brad and to the picture. One of my favorite layouts.

You guys are so creative!
We always take photos of funny signs. My favorite was in the Phoenix area. It was at an intersection with traffic lights and said "No red light running".

So many great ideas! Travel minis are my favorite things to make and I usually start with a page of stats. That summary page from above is pure gold! I can’t express how much I love it!
