I just put together my own bike rack for my car! Sounds dumb, but I am TERRIBLE at putting things together. I always have been, and I tend to try, give up and have my husband or son do it for me. I recently bought a bike and plan to go on some trails near my house. I went with a friend on Sunday and had a blast. I drive a small SUV, too small to fit my bike in the back of, so I bought a bike rack from Amazon. My car has a trailer hitch, so I bought one that connects to the hitch. I should have known better than to order from Amazon because I should have known it would need to be assembled. It arrived yesterday, and there is no one home to do it for me. I dumped it all out of the box, and feeling overwhelmed, left it on the porch all night. This morning, I decided to see what I could do, thinking I could ask my neighbor to help if I gave up. Wellllll...miracle of miracles, I figure it out and put it together! I will need help attaching it to the car because it's too heavy for me to do by myself. I keep looking at it and thinking, "Wow. I actually did that!" LOL Okay, make me feel less pathetic. What is something silly you are proud of yourself for?? ETA: J ust for a visual, here is what I started with.

Good job!
There’s a joke in the military that something breaks as soon as the other spouse is TDY or deployed. I once broke a light bulb in a lamp socket and it welded the bulb base into the lamp. I had to replace the whole housing and had no idea how to do it. YouTube to the rescue! Seriously, you can find anything on the inter webs.

Moving a sink sprayer hose from in front of the pipes underneath to in back. I had asked my ex for MONTHS to do it. Then he said his dad would do it when he came down to visit (he didn't.) When I finally got so sick of it catching on the shutoff knobs in front of the pipes, I went under there and did it myself (took me like 5 minutes.) Then he was pissed that I did it "I SAID I was going to do it."

Good for you Just T. These skills will serve you well once that divorce is final. I'm so proud of my BFF. I have Jeremy to do all these household things. He likes doing them so I've never thought to learn. My BFF has been a single lady for quite a while and she just handles everything like this. Now that her boys are older, they jump in and help her too, but she had many years where she was the only source of making repairs in her house.

I want my washer and dryer to have a wood cover (and sides) over them. In our kitchen remodel, we lost our office space and I need to have somewhere to put all of the paperwork that comes in and out of the house. While I am not 100% certain how to create what I want, I have found materials that will work. So half proud of myself.

Great job!!! I'm proud of myself for sucking it up and asking for help yesterday on some work stuff I was stuck on. I actually showed my very very rough draft in our weekly meeting. Not only did the group untangle my problem in less than half an hour, but they were very kind and complimented me on what I'd done so far. By the end of the day, I had the whole thing under control. I love the team I'm working for.

I Googled how to reset the "maintenance required" light on my car after I got an oil change and they forgot to do it. I feel like a rockstar and I won't have to look at that stupid light for 3000 more miles.
I love Youtube for learning how to do things DH says he's going to do but won't get around to.

I think I know how you feel. A few years ago,I changed out the insides of the toilet just to know that I could. (It needed it and instead of DH doing it, I did.--thought I needed to clarify that I was not dismantling a working toilet.

My concern is that I don’t have enough strength to “tighten” things. I could probably do a lot of DIYs if I was taller and stronger. I recently patched a hole in the wall - I cut the drywall, screwed it in, and plastered it (all under SO’s supervision. Lol!)

Awesome! That's such a great feeling!
Once after a car service, my car clock did not come back on. IDK what they did but it wasn't working. I was so annoyed to hassle taking it back in, and the way they hemmed and hawed over the phone I thought ugh, forget it.
Well good old Youtube showed exactly how to fix, apparently there is some magical spot on the screen panel that if you hold it down long enough a secret menu pops up. I used the code number they said to use and boom! Clock fixed!
Silly little thing but I was so pleased with myself.

YAY for you!! I would totally feel the same way!! My sister is a rockstar at fixing stuff. If she doesn't know how to do something she checks YouTube. She's a single lady and says she doesn't need a man for anything! She also might be a touch bitter after her divorce! But seriously the stuff she accomplishes really, really impresses me!!

Awesome to all of you!
I bought and assemble a 5x5 Kallax from IKEA. It was actually pretty easy to assemble. I did help to lift it up off the floor to vertical! Those suckers are heavy.

I don't think it is silly I don't do things like that either but if I did I would feel pretty good about it.

Congratulations! Now that you have one success under your belt, you will be more confident at the next thing. You can do this!
My ex rarely did anything around the house for me. It used to annoy me but then I realized he had done me a big favor. It forced me to have to learn how to do things for myself. It sure came in handy when we divorced. The only thing I missed about him was his paycheck!

I mowed our front yard all by myself with no supervision or anything. I've never mowed anything or really done a lot of yard work so I was pretty proud. Now I have to do it again!

This isn't about me, it's about my 24-year-old granddaughter. She's beautiful, smart, and has an independent spirit. She's willing to tackle just about anything. Once, when she was 20, their toilet began leaking so she took it upon herself to fix it. She removed the whole toilet, replaced the wax ring which forms the watertight seal, then put the toilet back together. I just shook my head when I found out - crazy girl. This is only one example of the things she's done on her own. I'm so proud of her.

I mowed our front yard all by myself with no supervision or anything. I've never mowed anything or really done a lot of yard work so I was pretty proud. Now I have to do it again! My ex would put off mowing the yard and it really irritated me. He went golfing every weekend instead. I figured I would just do it myself. We has a gas mower and the starter rope was difficult to pull and took me several tries but I finally got it. I just started to take care of the yards (as well as all of the inside of the house) by myself and it felt so good to get compliments from the neighbors on how good it looked. I fertilized regularly and planted lots of flowers. The neighbors used to say we had the nicest landscaping on the block. This was usually said in front of my husband because people assumed he was doing it. I didn’t correct them either. He never admitted that he didn’t do it. After we divorced, he asked me why my flowers were so nice. He said they couldn’t get theirs to look that good and wanted my secrets. Ha.

Really not silly - that's a skill in itself, and now you've done it, you'll have the confidence to put the next thing together without being as overwhelmed. I hope you're proud of yourself. Well done.

So I do them and if I get it 98% complete and he can just tighten it when he comes home it was always so much easier. Only needed him for 15 seconds not the whole project. Legacy Girl hope your new medication helps you.

In my younger days I used to roller skate. Not well, but often. I have not roller skated for 35 years. I still have my skates from the 70s.
I am now 65. I took 3 yr old dgd to the rink 2 days ago. I managed to stay on my feet and wobble around the rink. At one point I slipped and fell on my butt, spraining my wrist. I kept on skating a bit longer. We stayed about an hour.
You may recall we took up iceskating in Jan and have been going every week. Several months ago I took a faceplate resulting in a mild concussion and broken nose. However we persevere, determined to get to a point where we are able to hold our own instead of the wall! I am proud of myself for trying despite my age and lack of success! I will add 2 photos.

I did all of the leg and phone work for getting a loan to buy and sell our house. I really hate money talk beyond bills and investments, so I was impressed with myself. I also packed 85% of the house.
