If this has already been discussed, please let me know.
I was looking for papers for a LO I hope to put together next. I want to use one of AussieMeg's Sketchy Saturday sketches, and I really want to find a fine diagonal stripe like the one she used. I found several pieces in both teal and light orange, but no whole sheet I could cut in half and spread across both pages. I know I BUY alot of paper in that pattern and those colours, but I also USE them quite a bit, so finding what I am searching may take some time...
Which brings me to a question: If you use pp as a background either alone or backed by cs, what is your favourite pp PATTERN for scrapping summer photos? What about fav COLOUR?
Really loving the watercolour effect backgrounds, some of which I can achieve myself with inks or crayons and water spritzes.
I am drawn to skies--sunrise/sunset, cloudy, blue or grey.
And narrow diagonal stripes--blue, teal, orange, yellow.
Not actually photo realistic, but something that gives the impression of waves.
And any pp that can act like green grass if I fringe it or cut it into hills for landscapes.

What I'm drawn to BUY isn't always what I reach for to ACTUALLY use. I love beautiful florals and fun designs like butterflies or robots etc... but I find those hard to use - especially with a white or cream background to the print vs a colour. So I try and focus my shopping on more tone on tone and small prints that I'll actually use.
Colour-wise - for summer (like all seasons), I tend to pull my colours from the photos which means I often struggle to use summer collections with their ice cream colours because my photos rarely include those colours.

Favorite colors are blues, teals, pinks, oranges, reds, yellows - especially when it is an ombre effect for the color. Favorite PP is sun burst ombre, water effect, palm trees (hello southern Ca here), beache scenes, stripes of various colors.
Here are some favorites I have (new and old):
HS sun chase - sun burst, happy thoughts
HS old school - Isla vista
Maggie Holmes - sunny days
Shimelle - Sparkle city - its wonderful and the one with fireworks
Echo Park - summer dreams summer vacation
Pink Paisley 09 -summer lights
Obed M - Buenos Dias
Cocoa Vanilla - Legendary (so many from this are perfect especially wild one)
Simple Stories - little dude
Cocoa Vanilla - sun kissed
Pink Fresh - out and about
Within those collections I have used other papers.

Can you link directly to the page who want to scrap lift so I can see what the diagonal stripe looks like?

I have this 12x12 by Cocoa Vanilla: pic posting siteIf it can work for what you need, let me know and I will be more than happy to send it your way. I could cut down the middle to make it easier to mail (6x12 sheets). I have 3 of these total so I wont miss this one.

Actually, pantsonfire, I already OWN that one, LOL. I was looking for something with fine blue/teal lines like the one in AussieMeg's LO here: Maui Lu Resort by emjaytee67, on Flickr No need to send me something. I am sure there is something in this room full of paper that I will be able to use. Just need to give up on the idea of the stripes and go with what I have available. Thanks for the thought, though.

grammadee - maybe a small dot pattern would work?

grammadee - maybe a small dot pattern would work? That is one pattern I have my eyes open for. I got excited when I saw the corner of some tiny grid/mesh pp, but I had less than a sheet of that, too. May have more somewhere else, though. The search continues...

If you use pp as a background either alone or backed by cs, what is your favourite pp PATTERN for scrapping summer photos? What about fav COLOUR?I just had a quick look through my summer layouts, and my favourite patterns are dots and stripes. Mind you, they are my favourite patterns for ALL pages, not just summer! I also like subtle tone-on-tone patterns for the main background, then stripes for the background blocks or thin strips, and dots for background blocks. I love mixed media backgrounds too. As for favourite colours...... like Linda said, I usually pull my colours from the photo. Most of my summer photos are going to have blue in them. If there is only one dominant colour (for example a pink bathing suit in a beach photo) then I would use shades of blue/teal/turquoise to match the water, maybe an orange/yellow/tan to match the sand, then pops of pink to match the bathing suit. The benefit of digital is that I can make my own paper if need be. The striped paper in my layout was a different shade of blue that didn't match the other papers, so I changed the hue and saturation levels so it was a better match.

My favorite colors are brighter bolder colors and primary colors.
Not a fan of pastels or vintage. Not a fan of paisley or chevron pattern. I usually only use a lighter colors, if a photo is really dark.
I like mixing and matching patterns. Polka dot, stripes, grunge, watercolor, floral, etc..
I mat or frame most of my photos. I would do a polka dot frame on a floral background. Stripe background and watercolor mat. Grunge on grunge.
I mix and match brands as well.

...If you use pp as a background either alone or backed by cs, what is your favourite pp PATTERN for scrapping summer photos? What about fav COLOUR?... I always use cardstock as the base of my layouts, which sometimes serves as the background & other times as a frame for the layout with a different color of cardstock or patterned paper layered atop it as the background. My favorite patterns & colors, regardless the season, are classics (e.g. stripes, plaids, dots) & neutrals often paired with a color(s) from the photos or representing the subject matter. Check out the reverse side of Pinkfresh - Right Now Paper (ETA: link to ACOT).

I tend to go for watercolor backgrounds or cloudscapes (not photo realistic ones) a lot for summer layouts. Diagonal stripes are always a favorite and I love hexagons too. I went through a huge wood plank phase on summer stuff a few years back.

For summer photos I love clouds and the sun. Generally for many photos I like wood grains, vintage/ distressed and of course my photorealistic papers.
When I did baby ultrasound photos recently I used photo realistic clouds and it looked really ethereal.
