Lives are so busy...especially if you work full time and then try and cram in cleaning, shopping, cooking, errands, etc. around it. Makes one almost want to take a sick "unplanned vacation day" and play with paper!
Have you ever taken a sick day to scrapbook? Or at least been tempted? I haven't actually done that but it is tempting today...work is super busy and I just want to be in my scrap space making stuff. I have taken a vacation day to scrapbook before, though. Although with DH work from home, that is less appealing. I'd need to go somewhere or I'd never hear the end of it lol.
What about you? Do you give into temptation and blow off work (or something else) to sneaky scrapbook?

No, but that sounds like a good idea (even if I would never do it because I'm such a rule follower!) I have a little bit left in my WITL album and want to work on DS14's trip to St. Louis & DS17's trip to Europe before I think about our family trip to Colorado at the end of July (I don't like putting off trip albums).
I could stand for my boss to take another day off because I can bring in my WITL album to work on the Journaling easily enough--that's as daring as I would get!

I’ve been tempted, so very tempted! I’ve not done it though as a random day off, like a mental health day. I’m a teacher and preparing for a sub is stupid stressful. I have taken personal days though to go to Creativation and for long weekend crops. I’ll be doing that in again January for a crop in Asheville.

One year I called in on NSD to scrapbook. There were some other factors involved, but they are mostly excuses lol. No regrets, but not something I would do on the regular.

Being a shame, I have no sick leave lol But because I am a sahm, I am able to scrap at various times of the day when I have a free moment.

No I've never called in sick to scrapbook - but I have been tempted! During the pandemic I took a vacation week off and cleaned my scrap room and scrapped for a couple of days. That was very enjoyable!

I did bring a kit to work to work on over lunch because a live was scheduled over my lunch hour and my co workers were like, "Wahhhhttt are you even doing???" lol I won't do that again, it was too weird. They wanted to touch my ATG. I can see how journaling would work though.

I've never called in for a sick/mental heath day for crafting. I have been tempted though. I have used vacation days for weekend crops and such. I will say in the future if I get close to my work anniversary date and still have sick time left I may just call in to craft. We get 32 hours per year and they are use them or lose them. Since working from home I haven't used a full sick day. I've only used a couple of hours for appointments. This may be the year that I finally call in to craft.

Several years ago, we moved cross-country, and I eventually found an admin/receptionist job. The thing was that the building was in the middle of nowhere, mostly vacant and right off the interstate, and my boss really just wanted a warm body at the desk for appearance's sake. The first floor had individual offices rented out by various companies but only 2 of those companies ever came into the office & they didn't come in every day. I asked my boss a dozen times the first month I was there what I should be doing to occupy my time, and he just... didn't have an answer or any work for me.
I got paid $15/hour to sit at that desk and scrap (since I'm digital, I use Photoshop) 8 hours a day. Sure, I answered the phone when it rang (maybe once a week?) and walked across the parking lot to get the mail every day but that was about it! There was literally nothing for me to do.
I must have created at least 50 layouts the three months I was there.

I was going to say no but technically I guess it would be yes. I get annual leave (vacation time) and sick leave that can be used for preventative care, being sick, taking relatives for care, etc. I planned a mental health day using sick leave to scrapbook but I planned it in advance. “Calling out” to me implies more last minute. But it boils down to I used sick leave (but planned, so it didn’t feel “sneaky”) to scrapbook and it was great 😉

I haven’t called in with the purpose to scrapbook. I have scrapbooked when I have called out sick, though. Sometimes I can sit and scrapbook when I feel awful and sometimes I can’t.

I have used a personal day to scrapbook more than once. We get three a year for things like non-medical appointments, family obligations, etc. I’ve used more than one to scrapbook. I also confess to scrapbooking when home sick. Sometimes I can sit at home and do something low key even if I’m too sick to work. I also got a fair bit of scrapping in while I was working from home—I would fussy cut or scrap in off camera meetings or training.

I have. There have been some pretty stressful things over the last couple of years (on top of the pandemic) and I've had several periods where I've struggled. I usually planned annual leave, but there have been one or two days where I've woken up and realised I just couldn't face going to work so called out sick and spent the day scrapping and just binge watching scrappy videos. It definitely worked for me, by the next day I was able to go back to work and do my job properly again.

Good for you Chinagirl828! I have taken an rare mental health day, but it wasn't driven by scrapbooking. Crafting might have occurred, but more often I sleep in, then cook or clean because getting some productive adult stuff accomplished helps my mental health (pretending I have life in order LOL!)

I did take mental health days occasionally and I am sure I did some scrapbooking. I see nothing wrong with it. I feel it falls under self-care.
I definitely left early to get in line for the OA warehouse sale, back in the day.

My third year of teaching I was finishing my master's degree and had several papers to finish prior to graduation. My boss somehow found out what I needed the day for and came to talk to me. He said there was no place I needed to be more than in my classroom with my kids. Ugh. I know where he was coming from (he put a lot of pressure on me to be a great teacher), but really had no business telling me what I could or couldn't use a personal day for. That one interaction stayed with me my whole career. When retired, I had about 150 sick days to cash in, and that was with using two maternity leaves.
I never used another day for sick or personal leave unless it was absolutely necessary. To be fair, it took me two hours to prepare for a day away from the classroom, so it was a huge hassle anyway.
So no, I never called in sick, but as a teacher, I had a lot of time off that others don't get.

Personal/sick time/vacation time should not be judged like that. I took a vacation day one time and someone asked me what it was for and I said, "I am going to sit in my yard and stare at the sky." lol...not really, I was going to get the next Harry Potter book at midnight the night before and then spend the night reading and then sleep the next day, but that was my business. I am sorry that happened to you. With all that work, you deserved a week off!

That would not fly in my district. Personal days are personal. I have no problem taking a personal day or a sick day. We accumulate sick days pretty fast so even with having covid twice this year I still have 130 accumulated over 28 years. I have 6 personal days (rolled over) but I only take 2 a year- one for my birthday, one for a scrapbook retreat. I am bipolar and while it took me awhile, I learned to accept that I didn't need to feel guilty for taking a sick day. I know my triggers and when I feel "off" I take the day. It is better I take one day off than be screwed up for weeks. I worked with a teacher a few years younger than I who saved every one of his sick days- he never took a day off. He came to work sick. We get paid when we retire for up to 250 sick days if we have them left. So he celebrated when he had his 250 days saved. Six months later he died. I think he was 48. And that right there taught me to take the darn sick days.

When my mom passed away, he was the first one at my doorstep to tell me take time off and how could he help. When I was pregnant, he begged me to not go past my due date because he was worried about my water breaking in class! He was such an interesting man. Yet I do think it was unfair too. This was also in the late 80's and personal care was not a big thing at the time. I needed that day to just work on my education.

And that right there taught me to take the darn sick days. Oh, yes, we had a union. I wasn't a member and was still untenured at the time. He really didn't have any business telling me that, but he wore his heart on his sleeve and he was the most involved principal I ever had. Thankfully after my first few years of teaching I rarely got sick(maybe used 7 sick days in my 28 year career other than baby dr. visits). We got 8-9 days a year for sick and personal leave at the time. While I took what he said more personally than I should have at the time, I also had a father who had a very strong work ethic and the only days he missed from work was when he broke his back falling off a ladder. I worked with several teachers who took every sick/personal they earned. I worked with newer teachers who knew they were leaving the district so they used all 20+ days they had accumulated in the last two months. People do such different things with their time. I took some of the money I got from my sick days to take my kid to Universal for 5 days. We had an upgraded flight both ways, an awesome room on the property, had all upgraded tickets and meals. When we got home, my son told me it was one of the best trips he'd ever been on and that kid has traveled. For me, it was worth it to save those sick days for an amazing trip with my son. I have just been really lucky with my health (both mental and physical). Had I really needed those days for sick or personal beyond the things I took them for, I'd like to think I would have.

Nah, I get so much time to scrap in the winter months, I try not to over-reach during the rest of the year. I'll have to be satisfied with one day a month until then.

No I've never done that, nor would I. Like huskermom98 , I'm too much of a rule follower to take a sickie! But I see nothing wrong with taking a "mental health day" every now and then, if you need it. I have so much leave owing to me. My boss made me take 3 days off in June because I had so much annual leave, and you bet your bum I used it to scrapbook!! I just checked my leave balance on my work computer, and I have the following paid leave owing to me: 37 days annual leave 187 days personal/sick leave 145 days long service leave (we get three months LSL every 10 years, and I've been here for 23 years and haven't taken any)

There are some nights when I say I'm done. Just done. All the household stuff can wait. I need to unwind. I try to do more in the school year, but naps usually win.
ETA: So I guess that's calling it in. I refuse to work.

Not exactly "called in", but went to work, saw that we were fully staffed with not a lot going on, faked a headache, went home, and scrapped the rest of the day. And I don't regret it at all!

A long time ago, when QVC or something was having their first crafty day with scrappy and stamping stuff, I called in. That was the only time I ever did it. I didn’t even craft. I just watched and ordered a few things.
