Currently I share my amazon acct with my mom so she can download any kindle books I buy and Vice Versa? Too many issues with this lately that every time I download a new book I purchased, it transfers everything regardless if I want it or not Can I take hers or mine off of this account, add it to another without loosing the books that are already on that kindle?

It shouldn’t actually download everything in your library, unless you literally tell it to, but everything should show up when you click to look at your library. (This part confuses my mom who is convinced that everything that shows up when she clicks on her library is actually downloaded on her device) You never lose books you purchased in your library. You can buy a brand new blank kindle device, for example, and download any of the books you previously purchased onto it. If you do remove her from your account, you will lose all the books that she purchased and she will no longer have access to the ones you purchased. Eta: I always delete books from my physical kindle after I am done reading them. Takes up less space that way. Anyhow, I have re-downloaded a number of them with no issue.

I thought there was a way you could tell it what device you deliver it to? but maybe it goes to the first device listed by default, and then other devices as told?

Kindle books are attached to the account, so if you remove the account you will lose the books. The only way you can keep them is if you turn off the wifi on the kindle after downloading the books.
You can set the default through your Amazon account and books will not go to her Kindle unless you send them to her Kindle. DH and I both have Kindles on our Amazon Account. My Kindle is the default. I have to go select his if I want the book to go to his Kindle.

Mine only downloads the book I tell it to download, so there must be a way to turn off whatever feature it is that causes your account to download everything. My suggestion would be to do the online chat with Amazon, if someone here can't help you.

I would love to know... my Kindle is full of books I returned to the library years ago, DH books (not my reading taste), and whatever my kids checked out on e-book from the library. I can't find books I actually own (which is only 10 or 11) because of all the other stuff on there and no way to sort it by "mine."
I swear there are even books on there I read in physical form, and not as an e-book.
It's a mess.

It will show up in the library of the others but won't download unless you tell it to

On your kindle you can choose to show all books or only those downloaded. You can also make collections. I often put all DH's into his own classifications. And once sorted and download only my choices I have my kindle set to show only downloaded titles.

A recent update to my Kindle changed the “front page” format. At the bottom of the opening page, it says HOME & LIBRARY.
I always have LIBRARY highlighted and have chosen DOWNLOADED.
I had to fix my girlfriend’s whose Kindle updated to LIBRARY but not DOWNLOADED so our whole library was on her kindle. Somehow I figured out how to choose DOWNLOADED and only the books I have sent her are on there.
That might by your mom’s problem.

I buy a lot for $.99. Also, if I get a kindle book from library it never disappears. I want to "declutter" my kindle!
It's funny but the reason I don't want to change to the new cable recording box is because I like separate ones for each tv. This way we keep all our shows spearate.

I have a problem with my library books coming back to life after I've returned them, or after they've returned themselves. I usually have to choose "return to library" a second time and then they'll be gone for good.

That one usually worked to keep a book from reappearing. I have an Oasis...not sure if that makes a difference as to the options.

I am really trying to learn to use my kindle while my 19 yr. old is home for summer.

You can permanently remove them if you go to the Your Account>Content and Devices page on Amazon and filter for all Books + Borrows. Delete all the ones that aren’t active and they’re gone for good.

It will show up in the library of the others but won't download unless you tell it to I think that's my problem. They all show up in my library on my Kindle and I don't want to see them. She has so many that I have to scan through like 8 pages to find just one of mine. The only thing I figured out for now is to set up folders on mine so anytime she has added more I just slide that into the designated Mom folder so my library only contains my books

With the last update, for most people, it had all your books on your kindle.
You have to choose downloaded books only to show only those. Push the Library button on the bottom. I think the choice is in there.
