I just throw an entire stick of butter on a plate and then everyone rolls their ear along the top of it. When dinner is over I throw away the remainder of the stick. This is what I do, except that I keep the butter in a dedicated butter dish for the season. We only eat COTC a few times a summer, but it’s generally only for a month or six weeks. There’s nothing like fresh corn from the field. I haven’t had COTC since we moved to Belgium. It’s just not a thing here. We move back mid September and I hope that it’s not too late for just one meal.

I butter a row at a time and salt. Row at a time. My brother butters and salts the whole ear. I had forgotten this til dinner time. One of my quirks. How in the world do you butter one row at a time? That would take some talent and patince. lol
I just take a slice from a cube or a dab from the tub and rub it all over the corn. Wee bit of salt and lots of pepper. We had corn on the grill last week and it was so yummy.

Well, I'm in the minority here! I don't butter or salt my corn. I'm not a fan of butter or salt. Growing up, we always rolled the corn on the stick of butter. After I was married, my MIL commented that only low class people roll their corn. She didn't know that I did that!
My question is how do you EAT your corn on the cob? My son and I eat it row by row. You bite just above the kernels and pull down . It takes the whole kernel out of the cob. You get more corn to eat and it's not messy.

Corn on the cob?!? I don’t butter it, if it sucks enough to need butter I won’t eat it.
But I’ve been spoiled with access to excellent sweet corn my whole life. Super light sprinkle of salt to contrast the sweetness is all any decent corn needs. You only butter crappy corn.
We had a corn butterer thingy that Ex & the kids used. It slathers a 5 row swath at the same time. For health purposes they had to butter the whole corn at once or you’d be getting your germs from eating it all over the butter.

I just throw an entire stick of butter on a plate and then everyone rolls their ear along the top of it. When dinner is over I throw away the remainder of the stick. I do this, minus the throwing out of the stick - butter is too damn expensive these days to toss it lol. We also don't get it in sticks here - the whole pound block only. Ok you can get sticks, but pay almost twice the price for them! For corn days I usually cut a piece of cold butter from the fridge for rolling corn on. Soft butter from the butter keeper isn't great for this way of doing it. If the butter is soft I use a knife and spread it. But we all butter & salt the whole cob at once.

Sorry, As someone who has also had access to excellent fresh picked corn my whole life…I just needed to let you know that this is absolutely positively incorrect. 😆. There is nothing better than fresh corn on the cob with butter and salt. You just don’t eat crappy corn, buttered or not. Hahaha.

I have those cheap, plastic corn dishes from the dollar store and some of the corn holders you stick in the end. I put a blob of butter in the dish and when it's cooked, I put the ear of corn in there, stick the thing in the end and roll it all around in the butter.

After draining the water,I put some butter in the pan with the corn, put the lid on and kind of roll/shake the pan a bit--comes out all buttered and tasty.

I butter and salt the whole thing. If I remember to use it, I have a little plastic gadget that holds a partial stick of butter and lets you roll the corn against it. Otherwise I just stab a piece of butter with a fork and cover it that way. We have those corn cob butter contraptions too. The have a section for salt, but we don't use it. And I butter the whole thing at once. No salt.

Roll it then salt/pepper it. Since it is all family if there is left over butter I don't throw it out! We use it up.. don't want to waste it. And sometimes might have to add a bit more butter if it all dripped off.

I am picky about my corn and this is almost the only one I will eat now.

I have a cube of butter in the refrigerator that I use to butter DH's corn-on-the-cob. He's a lot more liberal with the butter than I am so I do it for him. I just slide it along the entire cob, turning as I go. I don't eat it any more since it spikes my sugar. Really? Dangit. I'm really working on reducing my A1C and I've been loving the summer corn. I mean, I know it's a carby vegetable, but I was justifying it I guess. This taking care of your body thing is bullshit.

I use those plastic or glass corn dishes. I put a couple of pads of butter in the dish and the corn on top, which melts the butter. A couple of “spins”, then salt & pepper while spinning.
Mmmmm can’t wait to eat some !

I do not butter or salt or anything else corn on the cob. I wait until it's local and sweet and eat it just as is.

I actually don't butter or salt corn on the cob any more. My husband doesn't, and one time I thought maybe I should try it without, and it was just as tasty, maybe even more so. He says you can taste the corn more that way, and not just butter and salt.

When I was growing up, my dad was very active in a service club. Once per year they had the infamous hot dog and corn booth at the fair. That was the best corn and the lines to purchase were so long. After we shucked it then it was grilled and then dunked into a butter churn. OMG! WORTH IT!
btw-I had to do a lot of shucking. Then I would be a cashier. Fun stuff for a kid.

Like others, use the little corn tray, load with pads of butter and role it around. After it is saturated, sprinkle salt.
Love corn on the cob but I am cornless for fifteen more months until my braces come off. Tried cutting it off the cob, does not work for me without the cob.
