everything. The best ones are the homes that still have 1970s-90s golden/orangey oak cabinets, with the gray walls and gray floors. LOL This is MY house! I’ve had sooooo many people try to tell me to paint my cabinets and wood work. It’s Golden/Honey Oak and I LOVE it! (We did just replace our yucky beige carpet with a dark gray luxury vinyl that has some goldish highlights.) ETA: My house was built in 1986

I think you still see a ton of grey among mainstream homes, but I agree that it’s been on its way out for a few years now.
Not everyone follows trends, and not everyone likes what is “current.” My sister is remodeling her bedroom, and in totally the Farmhouse/Joanna Gaines style from 2015. My mom just redid her kitchen and it screams Tuscan ‘03 to me, but it’s what they want and it makes them happy.

I am about to put my house on the market ... It has been almost completely renovated ... This is a photo of my dining room ... the flooring is a greyish beige colour from Costco ... really nice! Certainly not all grey ... Ex is a realtor and was the GC of our reno ... his choices in colours has been spot on

When we were househunting in 2020...we had a hard time finding a house we liked - lots of grey wood/woodlike flooring, lots of grey walls, lots of open floor plans...we actually ended up paying below appraisal on the house we bought and I wonder how much that was because it had beige carpets, warm woodtone flooring, off-white walls, and a traditional floor plan? We've torn out some of the carpets (and plan to replace more in the future) but we picked a flooring that coordinated with the foyer and kitchen flooring (which wasn't the same) they are all warm oak woodtones though.

I was thinking more about this and looking around my decidedly not gray home. When we bought it in 2015, it had sat on the market for a while and I wasn’t sure why. It was the only place I’d seen in the area/price range we wanted that appealed to me.
All the basic finishes are warm toned, which is what I prefer and always have. But it was probably not the thing for most people in 2015.
I, of course, came in and piled a bunch of bright colors on all those warm neutrals. 😂The rustic style if some of it is beginning to look dated, though. Maybe we can redecorate when both kids are done with college.

I love the grey because I still have the oak colors in my house. I am SOOO sick of brown everything. So if grey is out and I don't want brown.. what choice is there? lol I know the brown everything was awful, dark brown cabinets, mottled brown counters, brown tile backsplash, brown walls, dark floors. Brown couches, dark wood furniture, brown walls. You could still choose brown, just not all brown or dark brown. I have walnut coloured cupboards from 12 years ago and still love them, but ditched the rest of the brown brown I had. Light natural woods are nice. White is always in. Mixing colours or wood tones.

This is my mother's apartment in a nutshell. And all her accessories, everything is gray. I mean, who has gray Fiestaware? She loves it! I think if I had to live there I would be the most depressed person there ever was. My house is all sorts of colors. I love it. Feels happy. All my main rooms coordinate, but there's color. The good news is that I have enough vision, if I was searching for a house, I think I'd be able to look beyond it and figure out how to inject my own personality. But, but...that gray flooring you're talking about would be a huge no for me. I'm not sure I'd buy a house with that kind of flooring only to have to rip it out. Grey Fiestaware sounds like the most UNappetizing shade of dinnerware ever. That color reminds me a chewed up piece of Wrigleys. Blech.

We're not selling or buying any time soon but I'm nosy and check out what's on the market around us. Houses that claim they're move in ready have a lot of white, gray and black color schemes going on. I'm not a fan. Everything is black, white, or gray in every single room. The only exceptions are kids' rooms.

Oh my gosh---it's been that way for at least the last several years and I am very ready to move on. It would be fine if supply issues weren't a thing right now, but we keep running into issues where our only choices in items are gray, gray, gray. And my gosh, every single house is white, gray, or white & gray. I look at houses where the rooms are empty, and I can't help think they look like office cubicles---especially because so many homes have the "weathered wood" laminate floors as well---so more gray!

Definitely when we looked for our current house seven years ago, everything was gray. Gray + PNW rain = not great.
I am a big fan of white, at least for walls, but my husband hates it, so everything in our house is painted so color or other. We have one gray room and I want to repaint it; I like the color, but it gets so dark in there.

I feel like gray has been the trend for SO LONG that it’s on the way out. My cousin in law (lol) the interior designer/home stager/realtor said this last year when I chose to paint the LR grey before listing the house. It did sell above asking but I think at that point any color would have! 😂

I like griege :-) we bought our home right after a partial reno (that included the kitchen) and, it was mostly gray/white/black. I kept the white and black (couldn’t change my counters), and I am slowly changing the grays to grieges. I love that I can throw warm and cool tones at it. I have a lot of jute color, warm, medium woods, and dark, cooler woods.
I will forever be a griege girl. At 52, I am done with trends.

I could do greige as a compromise but I'm never going to have beige walls ever again. Ugghh, I hated them.

Our house was built in 1988, and everything about it is grey. Grey siding. Grey shutters. Grey carpet (yes, it's original to the house). Grey everything! So clearly this is a cyclical trend. And FYI, I find it dingy (dingey?) and I'm not remotely a fan.

Gray has been a trend where I live for almost ten years. Things are now trending to all white walls with either black, deep blue or deep green as an accent. Also, wicker, seagrass, and live-edge wood tables are also a thing here.

I find grey the most depressing of all 'colors'. I can't stand it anywhere, unless there is a lot of color to liven it up. But all grey? Not for me. I agree! I can't stand grey, and I rarely wear it, it's such a depressing colour. If I do wear it, I make sure I have other bright colours with it. Having said that, when we re-did our kitchen and bathrooms and carpet 5 years ago, I used a ton of grey! Go figure! I was hellbent on replacing every piece of outdated mid-80s brown that I possibly could. carpet - mid grey bedhead - mid grey curtains - mid grey lounge room blinds - light grey with white sheers over the top shower tiles main bathroom - dark grey bathroom floor tiles - light grey kitchen bench top - light grey cabinets - some are white, some are dark grey splash back - the guy wanted to do silver, but I chose bright turquoise for a pop of colour We didn't do grey flooring though. We chose a medium shade timber colour. Oh, and about 10 years ago we had our orange terracotta roof tiles painted a dark blue/grey. Not bad for someone who dislikes grey, hey?!

Yep. Grey is on its way out ---especially for higher end homes. Low to mid range homes are still using grey because its a cheaper finish right now & those who usually buy the lower end homes are usually young adults who think the darker colors are for old people. A light grey is also a popular choice because it can make a space look larger than it really is (and its not *white* which is often used to make a space look larger).
That said, I think people should use whatever colors and style they like. I am not a fan of grey so I am perfectly fine not using it anywhere in my home.

Gray and white is still very much the popular choice near me, whether remodeling or new construction. Several of my neighbors have updated their kitchens and flooring with gray and white--I like it, it looks modern and fresh.

All gray with a stark white kitchen. Blah. I'm so ready for trends to move on from that.
