Are stencils among the tools you use when creating layouts? If so, please share your preferred way to use them on your pages. TFS.

I want to use them more. Currently I only use them with embossing paste as a background design behind embellishments or my photo, but I see so many layouts that I love with some element of stencilling that I would like to do more. Making more use of them is part of my goal to get a bit more comfortable with mixed media.

I just found 3 Prima 12 x 12 stencils (from maybe 2013) at second hand craft store for $1 each. Excited to try them.

I have been getting into mixed Media and have been buying stencils to use for my pocket page layouts.
So just starting to use them for pocket cards.

Not really but I'd really like to get into them. It seems like a fun way to add a different look to a page.

I’m interested in trying them out, but I’m having a hard time pulling the trigger in purchasing. Why are they so dang expensive?

I like blending oxides over them for some background colour. I like the look with texture paste or paint, but don’t often have the patience to let that dry, or the quick thinking to immediately clean the stencil.

I use them all the time for cards but not so much for scrapbooks but was just thinking the other day I should My fave way at the moment is to use them with lunar pastes. So buttery soft and shiny and not at all gloopy like most texture pastes

I just went through an album to show someone my layouts and I had one where I used a stencil in the background. It looks really nice. I need to do that more often.

Right now I use stamp ink, Dylusion sprays, and Dylusion glitter paint.

I started using stencils about a year or so ago when I discovered Vicky Boutin's Friday Night Live videos and mixed media backgrounds. Vicky shows so many great techniques with inks, watercolors, and texture paste. The possibilities seem endless. Plus its fun to sit down and get messy.

I just did a bunch with the one colour I currently have[ more on the way!!] and found it to be faster than a sizzix gel paste and a ranger stickles paste I also used[these were horrible and gloopy- I pitched them ] i am in South Australia where it’s dry but winter so cold and 11 deg celsius the lunar paste dried enough to work on in about 1 hr

I use them occasionally, although I have been inspired and encouraged to break them out more regularly thanks to Shimelle's BOBW videos as she often includes them in the kit. When I first bought them I would mostly use them with texture paste, or a single ink colour, but I've been playing more with blending inks through them.

I have a crazy stencil problem. I usually use a plain piece of cardstock for my background and I love to add a stenciled design to add a bit of visual texture.
I almost always use an inkpad and a dauber. I'm intrigued by using texture paste but I'm very impatient and waiting for it to dry would bug me. I think I'll try it anyways, though.
Stencils are incredibly expensive, so it is a bad thing to love.
I have ones like: stars, fish, leaves, brick wall, numbers, triangles, coffee rings, fireworks, flowers, etc.

I think I own one stencil. It looks fun, but I don't have the space for doing messy things and letting them dry. I do want to try some simple techniques. I just ordered from scrapbook.com and one of the free items was a layered stencil. It will be fun to try. Layered seems less intimidating.

Thanks for your responses &/or participation in the poll. Stencils are among my favorite tools. I use them often with ink, embossing ink/powder/heat tool, or glaze, usually to create a background & add visual interest on a layout. I encourage everyone who's interested to experiment with stencils! I use them all the time for cards but not so much for scrapbooks but was just thinking the other day I should My fave way at the moment is to use them with lunar pastes. So buttery soft and shiny and not at all gloopy like most texture pastes I was unfamiliar with Ranger (Simon Hurley) Lunar Pastes. Thanks for the review.

Yes, either directly on the page or on some sort of paper that I paste to the page. Here is an example where I have used both--the leaves directly to the page, and pieces of stenciling on the little strip that came from the matching tag on the next page.

I voted "rarely" since I've just begun to purchase a few stencils and Distress Oxides. It looks fun and I hope it doesn't go horribly wrong. And my oh my that lunar paste stuff sounds intriguing!

All the time. I use texture paste, spray, inks. I also will use the stencil after on another page to use up the leftover ink and most of the time it looks better than the original.

I like stencils and certainly buy them like I use them a lot, but I selected rarely. I mainly use with ink, but have various paints and pastes. I always have fun when I do use them, and really like the look. I need to dig out my stuff more often.
