librarylady and other history lovers! I have been going through my grandparents things and we found a box full of letters and postcards and official correspondence from WWI that my great great great grandfather sent to his parents and his later wife. We are working on getting them scanned. Any ideas of organizations that might be interested in them? Thanks!

I know in my area, we have a War Museum that has artifacts from my area that have been to war. Maybe your area has something like that? What about a College Library close to you?

The letters are currently in CA with my parents. I might look into those on the East Coast. I believe they were in Borden Town, NJ at the time.

How the heck young are you? You’re depressing me. My grandfather served in WWI (he was young, in college at the time) and your 3x great did, too? Just shoot me. That said, wow, what a treasure trove of history!

lucy g... right with you. my great uncle was in ww1.. I have some of his letters from training camp--he was an mp in france, came home and slowly drank himself to death.
my great grandfather on the other side was in the franco prussian war of 1871. I have a picture of him with his unit.
we have about 60 letters of my father in law, who was in the 10th mtn division, hurt himself and ended up in the Philippines.

I have copies of my uncle's letters from WWII. He never came home.
His name's sake has the originals all in a book. My cousin made copies for all of us.

My 3X great grandfathers were in the civil war! In all seriousness, though, the possibilities here are pretty numerous--it may come down to what organization most speaks to you. Besides military museums, which are a great idea, you could also try historical societies, museums, libraries, or universities local to either where he (or his parents) lived or where he served/trained while in the US. What a wonderful treasure for your family!
