Okay, this is weirdly specific but someone wrote on the punch thread that they had a dragonfly punch. Which got me to thinking- they sure do use insects a lot as decorations in scrapbooking.
So. Many. Butterflies. So many. I will admit to using them quite a bit- both realistic looking ones and stylized ones. But they are crazy common in scrapbook lines.
But then there are dragonflies, and bees, and more recently moths.
I've seen ants, lady bugs, spiders, grasshoppers, caterpillars, and I have a piece of Graphic 45 paper that has all kinds of beetles on it.
I know we have talked about llamas and sloths but it seems insects are the kings of scrapbooking.
Do you use insects in your layouts?

The only insects I use are butterflies on general pages and spiders on Halloween pages.

Not really now, especially since my kids are adults now. I am sure I used a caterpillar or spider on a couple layouts when they were younger.
Butterflies, bees and dragonflies yes on cards. I just bought a moth die for a card, but haven't used it yet.

Butterflies also dominate my selection, followed by ladybugs, bees and dragonflies. Don't think I have any other insect themed cut outs. I mean it's not too hard to fathom why; butterflies are colourful and the least "creepy" insect. Ladybugs and dragonflies and bees are helpful and easily identifiable. Most people like them, even if they don't care for bugs in general. Personally I'm cool with anything that isn't human aggressive or think I'm a snack!
I'd like more caterpillars, grasshoppers, beetles and spiders. I don't think I have a single one of any of them.

dragonflies and butterflies (and to a lesser degree) bees and ladybird beetles(ladybugs) - are good generic embellishments to me
ants - I've used on picnic layouts I think but that's really it
spiders - maybe Halloween
moths? beetles? grasshoppers? Caterpillars? no...okay maybe caterpillars if I was doing a layout ABOUT caterpillars

I use butterflies sparingly and only when it fits. Like a spring card, new baby card, or a layout about dd's love of insects.
Spiders are used for Halloween or spooky layouts and pocket cards.
I used ladybeetles when dd was little and grew some then released them.
Recently used some Graphic 45 paper and bee's on a layout for the quilt my mom made dd. She is into bee's and saving/protecting them and her quilt has bees and beehives on it.
So yeah, when they fit the story yes. Otherwise, no.

I love butterflies because they remind me of my daughter. Do I have a MS butterfly punch, a tiny butterfly metal die, butterfly stamps with a metal die? Yes, I do. How great am I at actually using them? Not very.
Now that I think about it, I do have a dragonfly punch. They kind of freak me out IRL. I like how companies make them cute.
I know I've used butterflies, ants, dragonflies, spiders, and other bugs. Spiders is probably my most used. My latest page had a spider web, no spider.

Bees--I love taking photos of bees...
Worms--fishing worms, my worm compost bin, bookworms, my youngest ds and his worm friends (I think we were up to Fluffy the Worm #7 at last count)
Dragonflies--occasionally
Butterflies--we did the butterfly hatching kit a few times
Ladybugs (DS (13) used to have a Beanie Baby lady bug named Baby Buster he took everywhere)
Moths-- We went camping and there were these gigantic moths on the side of our cabin... I can't remember if I scrapped that yet, but if I had the right mothy embellishments...
So I guess the answer is yes, I use bug stuff in scrapping.
We don't have fireflies on the west coast but if I ever get to see one it's going on a page and I'll need all the firefly things!

My son has always had a deep seated fear of insects so years ago I used some Bug's Life stuff and a paper with insects all over to scrap that.
I will use butterflies and dragonflies on outdoors pages or I used moths on a school science page. But because I am so theme oriented in scrapping any use of insects is directly related to the theme of the photos.

I have to strongly disagree. Butterflies, dragonflies, and lady bugs I’ll give you. But one is hard pressed to find a variety of bug related products that isn’t all flowery. DS is very into bugs as little boys tend to be. I’m sitting here with ant farm pictures and no ant paper to be found. And would it be asking too much to come out with some firefly accents? Sorry, backing off my soapbox now.

I use a lot of botanical elements in general on layouts so I add dragonflies, butterflies, and the occasional bee. I have used ants on picnic layouts. I have a bee stamp, fly stamp (it's cute in the right context), 2 or 3 dragonfly dragonfly and butterfly stamps, as well as dragonfly and butterfly punches. These get used quite a bit.
I've used other insects (ladybug, caterpillar, probably a spider on a Halloween LO, & maybe others I forgot about), but dragonflies and butterflies are by far the most common insects I use.

Bugs (including butterflies) aren’t my go-to for either page or card embellishments. Even though I think that butterflies and dragonflies are the prettier creatures of the insect world, if I have used a butterfly or dragonfly on a card or layout, it’s so rare that I don’t remember it. Unless something relates to my photos, it isn’t likely to make it onto my layout, no matter how trendy it is.
Using spiders for Halloween cards and layouts seems more natural. Halloween is often expected to be creepy, and I consider spiders very creepy. Spiders are often used for Halloween decor. However, you won’t see any llamas or sloths on any layout of mine, though, unless it’s a zoo page. I don’t mind other people using them. They just aren’t anything I would use.
I often wonder who decides what will be the current trend. I have never bought a sloth or llama paper. I’m pretty sure that I rolled my eyes when I first saw that trend.

I really dislike butterfly iconography and avoid it. I am finewith spiders in Halloween pages (my youngest has had hilarious levels of arachnophobia since toddlerhood, so it also feels like a family “thing”).

I know Shimelle's Never Grow Up had ant paper and maybe it had firefly paper too? That sounds familiar but I'm not sure. I just got a new collection with fireflies in it but I can't remember which one it was. I'll have to dig through my stuff today and see if I can find it. I just checked Scrapbook.com and they have a diecut package of Bella Blvd. Bug Explorer collection that has some nice ants and other bugs. It is a bit cute but not cloying. If you want realistic bugs, Tim Holtz has some stuff. He is always good with the creepy crawly stuff.

I hate spiders so will never use them on a page. I really don't care for bugs but have used them a few times. I have used bees on a "busy as a bee" page for toddler daughter layout. Used ladybug for "Little Lady" page. I know I am a scrapbooking cliché. Yes I own too many papers with butterflies, we have gone to the butterfly exhibit here and my daughter posed by a bunch of butterfly things so at least had an excuse to use some up.

I love bugs so I’m always picking up random papers here and there with bugs on them. A few of the multicoloured ones I use in place of rainbow papers 😁 I also love scaly creatures too though so am partial to snakes, lizards etc… I have a few cutesy ant and firefly papers I can give the name and designer of if anyone wants to try and find some. Graphic 45 have never been my go to for papers BUT they also have a number of realistic beetle/bug papers, especially the b sides, that I’ve bought a few pieces of.

I have no problem using butterflies, although as someone else mentioned upthread I tend to use a lot of florals/greenery on my pages so butterflies sort of feel like they belong. I typically only use the other insects on pages where it's somewhat relevant to the story or the location of the photos.

I have learned to embrace the butterfly. I use it as a generic embellishment much like a heart or star, but like Chinagirl828 I tend to use florals and leaves so they aren't entirely out of place. I was once given some very insect heavy paper (P13 New Moon) to work with for a design team layout at my LSS. I used them with some outdoor/hiking photos and I liked the effect. Not sure if I would ever make it a focus again, but I wouldn't shy away from including them as part of an embellishment cluster.

It’s been a favorite for my big explorers.

Homeschool mom to boys here. I definitely use all the bugs on pages to document our adventures and exploring. I know I’m the outlier.
