i bought Carta Bella's Space Academy collection kit when it first came out - it looked so fun, my kids like space...perfect, right?
Except there it has sat...the papers are busy, the cut-aparts are an odd size, I've used a couple of stickers...but the kit as a whole? no, it's definitely one of those 'what was I thinking?' purchases.
BUT today...today I'm working on a layout using some of the cut-aparts. I still couldn't figure out a way to work in the papers but...it's a start.
So what have you bought on a whim and regretted?

LOL...what haven't I bought on a whim and regretted! Honestly, I have so much stash that falls into this category. One of my big regrets was Graphic 45--it's very popular in my neck of the woods. In particular one instructor that used to work at one of my LSSs did beautiful layouts with it. Unfortunately it just doesn't go with my photos or style of scrapbooking. There was always pressure to buy it and do something great with it. I bought so many lines. Ultimately, I sold most of them through a garage sale. I think I only kept a couple of the lines that had more of a nature focus. I may still part with them yet. I belonged to an art journal group for awhile. While I was doing that I bought tons of mixed media (paints and pastes, etc.). Most of it dried up before I even used it. I am very careful not to buy much of this anymore, only the very basics, or I don't get around to using it. I'm slowly starting to lose my attachment to some of these supplies. I'm no longer waiting for the perfect photo, so I will use bits and pieces as they work for me, or I'll just use the b-sides. Good luck with the Space Academy, Linda ! I can see why you bought it. It's adorable, but I can also see that it would be challenging to use.

I bought a Space kit from Club Scrap, but I just made A2 cards. I really don't care for kits, to me they look kinda "store bought"ish.

LOL...what haven't I bought on a whim and regretted! Honestly, I have so much stash that falls into this category. I can't even list anything specific. I always think I will find a use for a thing. I have hoarded for the day no one can buy anything new product wise. When I will use an ugly floral paper and make it work because it's all I have. That space stuff is cute linda. How about cutting strips of the paper to use or matting in the paper?

The SCT Let's Stamp Together subscription. I've yet to be inspired enough by a shipment to use any of the sets of stamps/stencils they have sent.

I have alot of die sets yet in their original packaging, or taken out for one frustrating spin. I like the IDEA of interactive cards, but I don't like their consruction. Same goes for some of the cute animal and gnome sets. I need to find out if the set includes an outline die so I can paper piece the rest into that cuz those I find easier to work with. I also have alot of stamp sets that are still in pristine condition. I belonged to a CTMH monthly 10-for-10 club. Each of us played host once during the school year and the others agreed to purchase a set $$ amount each month. I loved the projects we did in class each month, but didn't give my new goodies much of a workout at home... Glad you are finding some use for your space themed items, Linda . I love it when a page gets me digging to the back of one of my drawers to pull out a prize from years ago that somehow fits perfectly with the story I want to tell.

Epoxy stickers. 99% of the clear epoxy has turned yellow over the years. Especially the ones from Creative Imaginations.
I replaced the ones used in my scrapbooks, and tossed the rest. I will never again purchase epoxy stickers.

I regret buying die sets that have small and fiddly pieces. I really love the look of them (Spellbinders makes a lot of these types) but I KNOW I won't enjoy using them. Sometimes it's hard to back away from them, but I try really hard not to talk myself into buying them!

I regret buying flair, especially the October Afternoon stuff. It has all rusted. It makes me mad because the stuff was so cute, too. Now I'm going to have to go through all of my old pages and replace stuff.
I have a few collections here and there where I've bought it and then decided it just didn't fit the subjects or way I scrap.
I looked up the Space Academy line. It is really cute. The paper with space stations on it is fantastic.

Nothing (that I can recall). I'm left-brained, generally lack creativity, painstakingly overanalyze every purchase, & don't impulse shop. Regarding CB Space Academy, the reverse sides (e.g. stripes, small repeated patterns) appear useable. The only issue for me, & the reason I rarely purchase CB lines, is the vintage style with visible yellow/brown distressing (that IMHO becomes more problematic if you plan to cut the paper, since its sides will then not be equally distressed). Best wishes using this kit!

Confession. I was in the throes of my October Afternoon addiction... And.. I bought Rocket Age. It is super childish.. but.. surprisingly, I'm thrilled I can use it to document a little Webb Space tele! Still not sure how I feel about it, but I feel it is *at least* as exciting* as walking on the moon! Pretty near time travel, and an insane accomplishment. I'm in awe!

And break easily (veneer), but I haven't seen rust. But I've lived in (pretty much) climate controlled homes in the mid south and New England. I've had issues with rubber embellishments and pleather (and man. I loved the pleather!! LOL)

I’m a 12x12 scrapper & often trim at least 0.5" off each side of Basic Grey & other pre-distressed patterned papers to remove the heavily pre-distressed edges & mount on cardstock. Perhaps this approach would make the papers in this collection more appealing/useable. Best wishes…

I don't exactly regret buying all the stamps I have, but I am on a serious freeze for stamps and I have kept it up for about 4 months now. I have so many stamp sets and honestly don't even make that many cards. They are just from video watching really, I see the vid and I think, "Oh that looks great, but to do X I NEED that stamp set!" And there it sits. I do stamp in my scrapbooks sometimes but these are very much for cardmaking. At the same time, I don't want to get rid of them, I really like them.
Things I do regret buying:
All the TH grungeboard. So dumb, I never made anything with that. Several Citrus Twist albums. I got carried away with the sale, and I am discovering I don't really want to scrap that small. I should have waited for their 6x8 albums. A very large order from a sketchy online vender for older paper lines. The paper wasn't in the greatest shape, I can't return it, paypal denied my request for reimbursement because I had received my items, even though they were not in the shape as presented. Lesson learned, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. I am sure there is more if I think about it.

I have a stack that I will probably destash at some point in the future. I regret purchasing the We R cinch machine. I have the original one from way back when. It’s ugly, clunky, and I think I used it once. I also have a crop a dile that I just knew I was going to use to round my photo corners…it’s still in its original packaging.

There are plenty of things I've purchased and then realised I shouldn't have gotten but my brain can't come up with one right now... You live and you learn forget? I know I haven't had a scrappy purchase gone wrong in some time so I have managed to soak up a lesson somewhere. I'm more of an admirer of products these days and can be very enthusiastic about a collection/tool without ever hitting the 'buy' button. I just don't have the space to stock up on stuff in my small apartment which makes it much easier to look at all the pretties without committing to them. What I have learnt to do is to count when I'm looking at a Project Life-style card set, stamp set, ephemera pack, etc.: I will literally count the amount of cards/individual stamps/ephemera pieces I know for sure I'll use, then count the maybes and finally count the let's-be-honest-probably-not. If I don't hit a good % margin, I skip the product altogether nowadays. It's an easier way to manage emotions and that treat-yourself attitude, just use numbers and calculate how much you're investing and getting back out of it.

I’ve got stamps, dies, papers, and tools that all fall into the “regrets” category. They all seemed like a good idea at the time, though, or I wouldn’t have bought them.
The regret purchases are one reason why I do more card making than scrapbooking, and have ever since I moved to Texas. I don’t have any LSS near enough to be worth the trip, so I raid my stash. I can use any and all of my “regret” purchases for card making. It’s far harder to use those items for scrapbooking. I love Graphic 45 and have a huge collection, thanks to Tuesday Morning finds of the past. It doesn’t work well for my scrapbooking, but it is great for card making.
Unless I start making a ton of cards to sell, though, my kids are going to be stuck with a lot of those regret purchases.

Like many of you, I have also impulse bought things that now sit. I'm a lot better about it now. I seem to know myself better and what I like and will use. And much of what I buy new now, I use right away for a project or at least some cards. Every once in awhile I go through things and decide I don't need or want something and get rid of it. Some of it I just can't part with and I put it back in the stash! LOL!

I think half my scrap room is filled with regrets. I still haven’t opened my Fuse tool. Distress paint wasn’t for me. I know there are a lot of other examples but I’m obviously blocked them out so I don’t feel guilty anymore.
I think one regret I have that I keep falling for is storage solutions. I am getting better but really need to remind myself to stop and evaluate if that storage will really work for me. I have figured out to only buy white or clear storage. At least then everything coordinates.

I also have a crop a dile that I just knew I was going to use to round my photo corners…it’s still in its original packaging. That one I actually do use. There is nothing that thing can't bite through. Even chipboard. I liked it so much I bought another size so my corners nest nicely. But I am right there with you on the G45!

Oh, quite a few. But I do try to be more discerning these days.
Infochick,I also have quite a bit of Graphic 45. While beautiful, it is hard to use. I think I've used 1 or 2 sheets for a l/o about someone dressed up as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. But I'm not giving up!
ScrappinMyLife, I think we were all taken in by those epoxy stickers. What a waste of money. I think most of mine were Making Memories. We should have all packed them up and returned them to the company.
Artbabe, yes those flair buttons. I think we've mentioned this before but mine all had rust spots on them. I hated to throw them away because they really were so darned cute.
A couple of other things that I wish I had my $$ back on: all those little bottles of Making Memories paint that dried up way too fast. And a set of unmounted stamps that I bought and mounted on that EZ Foam mount stuff. It must've been a bad batch of the foam stuff because the stamps all turned into a globby, sticky mess.
Linda, the CB Space Academy line is adorable. Maybe use some of it for l/os about star-gazing, times when the International Space Station goes over your area, or a visit to the planetarium?

At one point I had signed up for the Stamps of Life monthly kit and most of those have sat unused as well...maybe I'm not a sub kit kind of person!

I was thisclose to buying the Farmhouse Summer collection yesterday. I knew I wanted it because it’s pretty and not because it would be useful to me. I’m getting better at being more thoughtful before I buy. But I have many shopping regrets gathering dust in a closet.

Sadly, most of my flair from 2 peas, October Afternoon and a kit club, scrapbook circle, I think, all rusted. I have some from a friend and Etsy that have not rusted. Someone on another message board theorized that if wet adhesive was used to glue the adhesive to the metal back, it would rust. I think she's right.
I regret all of the epoxy that yellowed, too.
I regret a silhouette portrait that I never used.
