I'd like to dip my toe into video with some scrapbook album flip-throughs. I know NOTHING about it. But I know I need new gear first. I'd love recommendations for affordable but good equipment I can purchase to anchor my iPhone above my desk and be able to see a full 12x12 album open. Perhaps something that clips to the desk (although I worry about stability, as I have a standing desk that already shakes a bit) or stands on the floor next to the desk? (Mic stand with boom?) Or perhaps I just need something that screws into the wall? Thanks in advance for sharing links or pointing me toward existing resources!

Ali's setup is really neat and top notch if you can afford it/do it. The arm is expensive and probably not for a beginner but I thought I'd share it with you anyway. This setup is more DIY and customisable with things you already have at home (long live the self-made photo lightboxes with vellum!): Best of luck! I hope you'll share your videos with us when you start filming them.

I would love a class that walks you through how to do this -- what equipment, what not to do, etc.

I want to buy an expensive phone holder/light that I totally don't need to film flip-throughs that only a few people care about. lol. But I remember when Brandi Kincaid started out she had a stack of things (probably books) with her phone balanced on top, held in a cantilevered position with another book holding it in place. If you're just doing it for fun this might work well enough. Some kind of ring light with phone holder might work. They have all kinds on amazon. Here are a few other ideas animoto.com/blog/video-tips/diy-overhead-video-shot I've also heard of people asking their family members to film while they flip the pages. Not perfect, but free if you have someone willing

If you need a tripod check out a local thrift shop if you can. I found one very cheap that was good enough for basic stuff. Maybe if you can save on that you can splurge on the arm or whatever else you need.

I have been wanting to ask about this, too! I am absolutely not open to having a bunch of ugly excess equipment littering my space though. And it needs to easy peasy to deal with or I’ll never bother with it.
Is there some sort of simple way to connect the visuals of my iPhone (which I’d be recording on) to an iPad or laptop? Just to be able to check that everything is lining up okay on camera? 🧐

When I first started, I used a gooseneck holder similar to this a.co/d/3UtUC7tNot that my set up now is fancy, but I do have a tripod now.

I have an apple watch and I use it for this. You can see a live feed on the watch screen of what is on the camera. Another very low tech thing I do is, after I set up my phone camera, I look through it and put a piece of washi tape on each corner right outside frame. Then I know where the boundaries are while creating.
