I just said "let's order a pizza." Last time we ordered from our regular place and it was not good for the third time and i had said "I'm done with them" at the time. So he asked "from where?" I said "domino's?" About 5 minutes later he gets an email with a promotion from Domino's.

Yep, our devices have ears! lol
Our A/C went out and was looking for a place to service it. About 30 minutes later, there was as tv ad on for one of the companies I had searched for.

What drives me nuts is when I accidentally click on a Facebook ad that I have no interest in at all. And then my feed is full of ads for similar products that again, I am not interested in.

i do agree our devices have ears, but I think this one is pure coincidence. TV ad space is usually purchased weeks or months in advance.

I've had too many situations with my TV that I think is not so coincidental. One example is my brother was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder and of course I googled to read about it. Within a few days, ads for it was on my TV. Never in my life have I ever heard of this condition, so it it really odd that it started showing up on my tv just a few days after his diagnoses. There is a setting within the set up of my tv that you can turn such ads off, but I've checked it several times to confirm it is off, but truely beleive it is a farce and that setting does not turn off.

I think prior purchase of ad space while historically was true I am not sure it is any longer. I am of the opinion technology now allows personalized ad targeting over pre programmed-everyone-gets-the-same-set-of-ads. I NEVER get ads for baby items or male items. Not online and not on tv either.

Not online and not on tv either. Agree, I sometimes watch shows in Spanish with Spanish subtitles on Netflix or Prime to improve my listening ability and I sometimes get ads for Verizon, etc in Spanish on regular TV channels (through Hulu, so through the Internet, which is always watching). So some of it is individualized. ETA but the other ads I see are definitely geared toward the largest audience of whatever show I have on. Forensic Files apparently draws old people and those with chronic health conditions. The ID channel is sure I'm a middle aged lady with cats 🤣🤣 and Alone tends to be truck ads, other manly things, etc.

Oh yes ! My friend left me a voicemail and asked me if I ever tried the cookies at Sugar Shane’s because she was on her way there to get a couple. I had never even heard of the place. A few minutes later, I opened Facebook and ads for Sugar Shane’s popped up, even though I never looked it up. It just picked it up from her voice message….crazy.

Right after my daughter moved into my old apartment with me at the height of the pandemic, I had asked her to get something off a top shelf for me because I couldn’t reach.
Then not 5 mins later, with NO internet searches, I get an add for pull down shelf.
Lol
Too bad they are so expensive or I’d buy them for my house.

My dad was on ebay looking for a very specific shoe he wore in the 1960s. He was telling me about it yesterday.
A half hour later those very shoes showed up in my Facebook ads. Unbelievable.

Every time something like this happens, I try to see if it works with something less common than pizza. Pizza ads are on the tv all of the time. Try asking about adult diapers, a specific destination trip, or something else that doesn't pop up on the tv all of the time. For me, it never airs.

Also in this case it was an email to my husband.
