Saturday morning musings inspired by the Scrappy boy and Etsy seller threads.
Let’s say for the purposes of this thread an indie brand would be one you sell either thru Etsy or your own website, without being under the umbrella of another company (**coughcough** AC **coughcough**).
What kind of products would you make? What kind of style or vibe would your brand have? I remember this being discussed several years ago but I’m curious to see updated answers.
I’d love to bring back an OA-esque style. Maybe do papers, die cuts, stickers. My problem? I have no talent or experience in graphic design whatsoever. I love finding fun vintage illustrations in old books, but I’d be too afraid of running into copyright issues.

I have ZERO talent in that department, so, no!
I'd love it if someone else (LOL) would start a line of impressionistic garden/fruit images with coordinating papers. I'm thinking visible brushstrokes and a certain level of "abstractness" in the images, and background papers that appear textured.
There are shabby-chic lines that approximate this look, but I'd love it more if there were rich colors and contrast instead of the usual faded pastels.

I wish I had the talent to do something like that.

Do you have any examples of what you have in mind? Purely out of curiosity. I love fruit/veggie/garden themes. I wish I had the talent to do something like that. Sounds like several of us are in the same boat! 😁

Do you have any examples of what you have in mind? This paper pack has a couple of papers that are the style I mean (and some others that I really do NOT like), but I'd like more garden/fruit themes instead of just flowers. And I'm thinking more warm colors in place of some of the purple/blue.

If money were no object, and I could hire the people necessary to get a company up and running and keep it going, then I would.
I pasted and copied my ideas from my past answers, on other threads. I would want to have items, that I wish I could find now.
Regular stickers, foam sticker, thickers, chipboard alphabets .....that are (at least 2+inches height x 2+inches width....no little bitty sticker sneeze)
Words and saying: Shenanigans
Misbehaving
Party of one, two, four, ten, etc..
So this happened
Hanging out
First time for everything
More of this....please!
Whose crazy idea was this?
Night out with friends
Lunch date!
A day out
Now or Never
Unsupervised
Oops!
The time of my life
Life Documented
Guilty Pleasure
Unplanned adventure
Spontaneous
Bad ass!
Checking this off the bucket list
Oh hell yes!
Out and about
Spending time with you is my favorite
My favorite people
Because someone has to be the crazy friend, Aunt, Grandma, Uncle, etc...
Ringmaster of the circus
Wandering along
Serendipity
Still crazy after all these years
This is what memories are made of >>>>
It was them I had the best moments of my life with
Quality time together
Festival
Can't take him-her-them anywhere
More paper, stickers, embellishment, etc...: Class Reunions Hanging out friends Restaurant, bar, tavern, coffee and tea shop Festivals, craft show, parades, fairs, car shows, treats (funnel cake, caramel apple, greasy fries, etc...) Hanging out at home, online, browsing social media, binge watching shows, yearly movie watching-traditions (Rudolph, Wizard of Oz, etc...), yard work.

I would absolutely love to and in fact toyed around with the idea several years ago. The line of my dreams would have usable colors (lots of actual blues and greens, not all teal or lime green) that match the colors most of us find in our photos. There would be no vintage icons and I would have a strong focus on making paper and embellishments for our local attractions that people were always hunting for when I worked in the LSS.
During my years working there I learned that there are a lot of scrappers out there that just aren't happy with a generic "beach" line or a generic "camping" line and wanted something very specific to their activities. I would show them the normal annual lake lines, camping lines, beach lines, etc. While these are pretty, a lot of shoppers were disappointed that the imagery and phrases were just generic and didn't really pertain to their activities. If I were to do my line I would focus on our somewhat local attractions and common activities: our local pumpkin farm, the fish hatchery, a couple popular local sporting events, tubing, floating the river, having an exchange student, vacationing at Lake Tahoe, Bodega Bay, and Fort Bragg. I would also have some disaster related products. Everyone that lives here has evacuated at least once due to a flood or fire and having some products to document those experiences I think would be well received.

I would need a crew of designers to actually create the patterns, but I would love to do a monthly curated kit where members suggested and then voted on what they most wanted a few months in the future. The kit would include "found" items from other designers and than exclusives designed for the most popular or for the most unique requests.

ScrappinMyLife's sayings are awesome.
If I were to do a scrapbook line it would be more city/urban based.
Brick walls, metal, and lots of building textures Graffiti Museums Breweries Cafes and Restaurants Parks Shopping
Stuff like that. There are a lot of farm lines right now and I think there needs to be more city ones.
I scoop up anything that has a more urban feel (Reminisce is good for this) or city themed (Shimelle's Sparkle City).
Another hole I see in the industry is the lack of music-themed lines. It is really surprising to me considering how much of our lives include music. I found a marching band line once that I used a lot. I have a rock music line (Wild Whisper). But there just aren't enough lines about music.
If I was going to have a music line I would make sure that it didn't include cassettes. Why does every line that has anything to do with music (mostly teen lines) include cassettes? What decade is this?
